Game On! Morecambe v Newcastle

Game On at the Globe Arena
Game On at the Globe Arena
An early season break from the Premier League will see us enter the League Cup one round earlier than last season due to a lack of European football.

The opposition are Morecambe and the ground is sold out giving the League Two side what will be a record attendance at their new ground, the Globe Arena.

As pointed out in my match preview, Newcastle have not lost a second round League Cup in 23 years but there is a sniff of an upset here. You always know there is a chance of an upset when Sky decide to to televise one of these matches and sure enough they will be at Morecambe this evening.

The good news about that is that it gives people who aren’t at the ground a chance to watch the game, and it also means that there should be some streams knocking about. Normal rules apply, those being that if you find a decent stream then please share it with your fellow Newcastle fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I’m unsure what kind of team we’ll be naming if I’m honest. Part of me says that we should name our strongest team which should, in theory, give us the optimum chance of progressing. The other part of me is thinking perhaps some first team players should be protected on the basis that we don’t have adequate backup to take on a Premier League team should those first team players pick up injuries. We’ll know soon though and all the team news will be detailed below.

That’s about it, I don’t really need to waffle on about the game any longer. Will we record our first win of the season or will we be on the end of another early cup exit?

Howay the lads!

Morecambe: Barry Roche; Mark Hughes, Tony Diagne, Andy Parrish, Andrew Wright; Ryan Williams, Stewart Drummond, Andrew Fleming; Kevin Ellison, Jack Sampson, Padraig Amond

Subs: Andreas Arestidou, Robbie Threlfall, Alex Kenyon, Marcus Marshall, Chris McCready, Joe McGee, Joe Mwasile

Newcastle: Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Curtis Good, Paul Dummett; Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling; Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic, Sylvain Marveaux; Yoan Gouffran

Subs: Jak Alnwick, Davide Santon, Remie Streete, Vurnon Anita, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi

  1. Good hasn’t looked too bad, starting to think Sammy is like Shola can’t hack the 90 mins 😳

  2. Marveaux is a quality player but needs to be played either in behind the front two as a attacking cm or as part of a front three.

  3. I hope we lose tonight. More pressure on the board and Pardew the better.

I want the fans to stay pissed off so that something has got to give. Better now than never.

All a win today would do is cover up cracks and delay the inevitable.

Be quite happy to lose every game until Pardew gets the boot.

  4. Kim the sooner we all accept that neither Shola or Sammi are PL standard the better, mind you you could say the same about some of the others out there tonight

  5. At the end of the day, I would venture that none of our French players look like they can hack the EPL / English style. None of them can impose themselves on this game, and in fact have struggled in most of our games.

  6. Kim,
Shola can’t hack 5mins. He’s been gash under every manager we’ve ever had. Bar maybe Roeder who made him look average (good for him).

@kavbosh Heard it was going to be on their back page last night. One to ask a question about: I think Gomis is the priority.

That’s not a positive. I’d love it if we got smashed by three or four tonight.

Would love to hear Pardew’s bullshit excuses then.

The main reason he doesn’t put his best lineup out is so that he has another excuse for losing.

  9. This is just shocking. I can take being beaten by Man City but the truth is that our players aren’t good enough AND don’t care. That’s just a toxic combination. Pardew can bemoan being undermined and not having good enough players but why are our players second to EVERY ball?

  10. Well if this does not open the eyes of the last few people that say we have a decent squad .Then nothing will , Believe it people we are ***** if the first 11 arent on the pitch and at best average with our best 11 on it , and Remy coming into the equasion is not the saving of us .

  11. Well this is total *****. Best bit is the crowd singing “you fat cockney ******* get out of our club” and “spend some fucking money” 😯 😆 Gosling ok and Sammy reasonable but I kep asking myself, which is the prem them?.?

  12. @KIMTOON

    what does all that mean.?

tbh I dont even read newsnow on speculation at the mo.

I’ll see at the end of the window how we stand. I’m sick of all the kinnear/pardew bullshit so I dont bother reading it..

  13. There only one man that counts and he is not even interested, so they can be as bad as you like, it’s not going to make any difference.

  14. I hope all the people who lambasted Simmo and were so critical are happy with their International full back. Debuchy reminds me of the worst players during the Souness/Roeder era someone who clearly came for money and the next move and could not give a S&*t about the club. He is woeful.

  15. “the truth is that our players aren’t good enough AND don’t care.”

Can you blame them. The only way they can best express themselves is to completely ignore the instructions given to them by Pardew.

They lack any self believe and motivation because they have ZERO faith in the man in charge. I don’t either. I understand their attitude.

We DO have a decent squad. It isn’t possible that EVERY player looks ****.

Ben Arfa, Cisse, Coloccini, Debuchy, Santon, Cabaye, Sissoko, Tiote have ALL been utter **** for 12 months.

The likes of Coloccini, Cabaye, Santon and Tiote have won titles, and are internationals for top teams. They may not be world class, but they sure as hell aren’t THIS ****!

Funny how all these players impressed until Pardew got his negative approach on them once they “cross the fecking line”.

  16. SJP have to admit that Debuchy, has not done half as well as I expected, living part time in France have seen him do a lot better, something is wrong.

      (Quote)

  17. Sounds like its been gash. Any other streams going? Easier getting into bloody fort knox than getting some streams to play on my laptop

  18. Mark the photo link shows Shane long on back of the irish Star,he’s said to be on our list of strikers.

  19. Shola on at half time.

This is about his level. So he should do well. I expect him to score and prolong our agony under Pardew.

      (Quote)

  20. shola On. thats the plan of pardew when things goes in a bad way.
I cant anymore with Pardew really. Even if Shola score three, i have enough he doesnt know how to play football

  21. JJ I agree that the tactics and regime are problems too but you know what I have a terrible boss right now and I go to work and I work hard. That’s what pisses me off.

      (Quote)

  22. @kim

The only formation that has ever really worked for us was 4-3-3 but Pardew doesn’t seem to like playing it. Another season like the last will drive me insane. He has obviously fetched Shola on as we weren’t playing enough long balls for his liking 🙄

      (Quote)

  23. HBA,
You sound like you feeling the same as me.

Our best signing we could have made this window is a new manager.

That would basically equate to 11 new signings because we’d have 11 players performing better on the pitch.

He can chokes on his eight year contract for all I care.

Take whatever money for transfers and pay him off. Please. Just get rid of him now.

  24. I was so relieved that we avoided relegation last season. But to be honest, we haven’t improved at all, same **** as last season. These flockers will get football done away with.

Pardew likes to play one of these formations:

    4-2-1——1——1———————————–1

    5-2—-1————————————————1

    or

    6-2——————————————————1

      (Quote)

  26. Geordie Deb have a look here after the match http://forum.xbmc.org/index.php
Have a look for the installation package for xmbc, once you have that up and running, there’s a repository called Sport Devil that shows all of the football plus other sports without all of the ****

      (Quote)

  27. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been watching a lot of Bundesliga over the years, but man oh man, this is absoluertly *****. We cannot keep the ball longer than 30 seconds. We are fuking clueless.

      (Quote)

  28. Every game it’s the same we only attack for about 10 to 15 mins in the second half then go back into defensive mode and try and nick a last minute winner 👿 You can almost set your clock by it.

      (Quote)

  29. I can’t seriously be the only one backing Morecambe to win. It is our best hope of Pardew being given the boot early on this season.

      (Quote)

  30. 63 minutes to 65 minutes was my favourite 2 minutes of ABSOLUTE ***** 😆 Sammy wins the ball, runs 10 metres and passes a simple ball YARDS away from Marveaux, who takes the intensity out of the move by going backwards to Bigi, who loses the ball TWICE. Fuking Master Class.
