Game On! Everton v Newcastle

Game On at Goodison!
Game On at Goodison!
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through every twist and turn of our trip to Everton this evening.

A Monday evening kick-off and a live broadcast on Sky will ensure that watching the match is more accessible to many so putting on a decent showing is a must.

However Everton are not an easy side to beat. They remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League this term and haven’t lost at Goodison Park in 2013. They’ve not conceded a goal at home since March with West Ham, Fulham, QPR, Manchester City, Stoke City, West Brom and Chelsea all visiting the blue half of Merseyside and failing to find the back of the Everton net. It’s a tough ask for sure.

United will have to be at their best if they are to trouble the home side. A raft of first team players are set to return to the side (team news will be added in below as and when it becomes available!) after beating Leeds, but with the greatest of respect Leeds weren’t exactly a test and were comfortably beaten. The defeat to Hull still sits in the memory and it’s up to the players to banish that.

As mentioned earlier, the match is being shown live here in the UK and, of course, overseas so finding a stream shouldn’t prove to be too much of an issue. If you fancy helping out though then please, by all means, feel free to leave a link to any streams in the ‘comments’ section below.

That’s just about it as there is no need to blather on any longer. Will United hammer the Toffees? Or will we come unstuck at Goodison?

Howay the lads!

  1. Richie@219 in fairness, I think most people expected the new Mourinho to give the new Drogba a place in his team…

  2. Richie-you’re probably right mate, in that Everton would obviously be willing to sacrifice Jelavic for him and we’ve spent two years trying to work out what to do with Cisse. Even so, showing some ambition and actually trying for him would have been nice. I can guarantee we didn’t because otherwise pards/joe would have told us about it …

  3. Pardew will say it was a much better second half performance.

Truth is, that’s only because Everton have completely taken their foot off the gas and allowed us to play a bit.

  4. 7 points from 6 games is just about Pardew’s average. So I guess its a start that’s on par with what should be expected.

      (Quote)

  5. We haven’t collapsed in the second half so far but is that what we’re left with? Not completely collapsing?

      (Quote)

  6. yes but if we start first half with the idea to attack and put pressure like we start second half, it can be better.
But like we did against Man City, we are afraid we sat deep and all the time we do that we concede early and we are ****.

And everton wasn’t so dangerous in first half, they have the control of the game but not so dangerous. Just look to the goals they score, we give them.

  7. Newkie…or the fact that Everton generally finish above us in recent years and are a much more attractive option to players than we are…sadly 😥

      (Quote)

  8. Kim@232 – nah, they didn’t sell the kid. Just an error in judging how quickly he was coming on. Lukaku will be spearheading their campaign next season.

      (Quote)

  9. Wellington…I was shocked he loaned him out especially given the fact he doesn’t seem to rate Ba much either.

      (Quote)

  10. Kim – Roman must be money laundering if he’s loaning Lukaku out to spend a small fortune on E’to like!. That wasn’t a football decision was it

  11. Truth is Everton have dropped down a gear or two ,only picking up when theres a sniff of a chance ,they know we can’t get level, it would have to be a total fluke lets be honest . Our second half performance is average the very least we should expect considering.

      (Quote)

  12. Everton created more chances in second half than first, but they just were less realistic than first half and have little bit less luck.

      (Quote)

  13. Sharpy ,it’s weird ,I can only think there is a personality clash somewhere cause they would be flying with him and we might be drawing now 😆

      (Quote)

  14. Oh well. Better second half. All credit to Pardew for that. Pity there are so many **** players in the team.

      (Quote)

  15. Well what to make of that? The first half reminded me of the defending of Derby when they were in the Prem for a season a few years back. Horrific. Then some recovery and a decent second half but far too late.

      (Quote)

  16. Well at least we’ve looked better and had more fight since Cabaye and Cisse came on despite them being ‘rubbish players’.
    Hmmm.
I can think of one funny character who won’t be happy about that.
    Lol.

  17. Never going to get back into it after our shocking defending for the first half but at least they tried. Why can we not manage a decent effort for 70 minutes let alone 90? It’s not even fitness, just concentration and balls.

      (Quote)

  18. Stuart all it shows him and his coaches/tactitians do not have a clue, let footballers play there natural game, and we do have one or two good players, and the difference is there.
What your thoughts on Benny running riot in the dressing room at half time and Pards took him off for questioning him and his tactics

      (Quote)

  19. We can see that when we play with our strengths we are dangerous and a good team.
Everton is not Barcelona like it looks in first half.
But Pardew with same comments, big second half, we show passion and character, Cababye made a great impact…

It’s not about players, its more about strategy and mentality you give to players before game.

      (Quote)

  20. Ah, well. 3-2 at Goodison isn’t that bad. The game in detail reflects where our team’s at: capable of playing very well, prone to spells of maddening incompetence.

    We’ll be mid-table this year.

      (Quote)

  21. Team’s enthusiasm in the second made up for their disinterest in the first half. Willo needs to start ahead of Yanga next week, much better performance.

      (Quote)

  22. BB @ 257 maybe he will blame the players for being w@nk as they didn’t really play like prem players, and they get the plaudits when they do well so they should take the blame when they’re **** ❓

      (Quote)

  23. Stuart@260-Nah mate, it means the players ignored Pardew’s half time team talk, look what it did for us 😆

      (Quote)

  24. Stupid goals to concede, but all credit to Everton who were playing good football (until we had them on the back foot).

      (Quote)

  25. I would be inclined to give Pardew ‘credit’ if we had actually rescued at least a point and or if we had not played some of the worst football I’ve seen in a very long while in that first half.

      (Quote)

  26. I doubt it Wellington @271. We’re in 16th place for a reason mate. Bottom 10 for me, especially if Pardew stays. No clue in the first half. Poor tactics. No attack whatsoever. We don’t service the attack well at all. Ashley isn’t going to change and Kinnear is just sitting there waiting.

      (Quote)

  27. Bizarre mess we’re left with. To me it looks like Cabaye is carrying an injury. Willo didn’t humiliate himself so now he’s a decent Prem CB? I doubt that. Huge mess in the first half and it could have been much worse as Lukaku wasted at least 2 golden chances.

      (Quote)

  28. Look at the teams from 17 down and I would say it’s fair reading tbh . Right now we are not playing anything like a top 10 team and I would snatch your hand off for 12th – 15th finish .

      (Quote)

  29. Well i hope i wake up tomorrow to see the headlines Pardew sacked ,this is even worse than last season . Ashley can not be impressed with what he saw tonight ,i was even hoping we would not get the equaliser because that would just of papered over the glaring problems we have ,Pardew and his backroom staff need to go . It has too be the coaching thats wrong ,these are players that play for their countries for **** sakes and not the worst countries eithier France , Argentina , Italy and Holland . Its not the players its the coaching thats wrong .

  30. Not much point coming on a blog and then not reading the comments Wellinton @280. So you don’t read the comments of people you don’t agree with? I love a good debate and everybody has something to contribute.

      (Quote)

  31. I know we all love to hate him, I know at times he can be a complete liability sometimes, and I know he looks like a proper gangly lunatic.

But once he came on, the defence seemed to tighten up, he won balls in the air and played like someone who actually gives a **** about the shirt they’re playing in.

So hats off to Mike Williamson. He made Mbiwa look like a mug tonight.

      (Quote)

  32. It will be funny to see the post match with Pardew. This was a diabolical performance. Cabaye changed the game when he came on just mainly because he pressed the ball high up the pitch. Mainly Ben Arfa who was shocking again did **** all… he is a lazy **** and is a major contributor to the reason our defense is so ****. Just look at the wing with Gouffran he is tracking back at every opportunity and bombing forward to get into the box when he can. Cisse’s pressing was good. Williamson was probably our best defender which is kinda scary but fair play to him Coloccini was diabolical and was at fault for all their goals iirc.

Do you remember when we finished 5th how solid our defense looked we had two hard working wingers not a lazy **** who turns up once a month.

I think it should of been Tiote coming off instead of Anita. Tiote does everything Tiote does but better but doesn’t make silly fouls. Think Sissoko has to play in that deeper role alongside Anita he is much more effective from there.

Yet again Pardew doesn;t change it until its to late and we are 3-0 down. shocking. Would not surprise me if he gets sacked some time soon.

  33. Completely agree with you Axel @283. The score flattered us by a huge amount. If we continue down this road it will lead to disaster. If Ashley has any clue at all he will start looking for a good manager.

      (Quote)

  34. Wellington @ 280 Good advice. Even better is to only read comments by people you think are worth reading – for me that cuts my reading by 50-odd per cent.

      (Quote)

  35. G2, it’s only six games. Feel free to make a judgement on the way the team’s playiing, but the table position doesn’t mean much.

  36. I think some of our players think they are better than they are. In any case, no matter who you are, you don’t get anything in this league without hard work for 90 minutes. That’s what separates us from this successful Everton team the most in my opinion. With Man U, the ‘wheels have fell off’ recently but when they won the title, they didn’t have that great a squad (compared to other top 6 clubs) they had RVP and Vidic who are world class but they did so well because they work so hard in every game. This Newcastle side has some quality and we can give teams a game, but we switch off far too much and are far too inconsistent. Sunderland tried for 90mins at home against Liverpool and got tonked 3-1. We tried for 45 minutes away at Everton and got beat 3-2. Why couldn’t we put in a 90 min shift? Questions need to be asked of the players. Pardew is a bit of an excuse making pansy as well. You get the impression that he was far to relaxed before kick-off. The players obviously weren’t up for it.

      (Quote)

  37. I thought Gouffran was one of our better players. Made a real effort all game long, tracked back to protect the fullback and still contributed to the attack. But it’s not nearly enough. Pardew must go if we are to do anything at all this season.

      (Quote)

  38. It’s only 6 games of which we’ve played poorly in 5 Wellington mate. The pattern is there as with last season. I can only see more of the same with Pardew at the helm. But Ashley is gutless and cheap so where does that leave us? I think we all know.

      (Quote)

  39. I do not feel terrible as I would have had I not expected a defeat. What is more concerning is when PArdew took over I considered ourselves in a league with Tottenham and a team capable of giving them a game but now I feel that teams like Everton are just too strong for us and expect a defeat.

Worse Hull are teams we have to scrap seriously with if we are to win. No easy games for us anywhere in this league. We have to really have luck on our side to beat the Hulls of this world and at home for that matter. Evertons are write offs for us now under this Pardew.

      (Quote)

  40. We might not win any toonsy. It’s gotten diabolical. How much more will Ashley tolerate to save a few pounds? Is he sane at all? Can he not see what’s happening to the club? He wants top 10 but he’s got himself a bottom 10 manager.

      (Quote)

  41. TLR – I totally agree with you mate. The final result and the 2nd half comeback can’t mask the fact that we were just horrible in the first half.

I was quite defensive of Pardew after Hull and suggested the players were responsible. Yes there were mistakes today, but defensively and offensively in the first half we were dreadful!!!.

I’ve had enough of this Pardew circus now like, enough is enough.

      (Quote)

  42. G2 – 😯 If you think that the team is likely to hit better form than this, I don’t understand why you’re predicting a disappointing season!
