Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

St James' Park.

St James' Park.
Game On at St James’ Park
It’s an early start today as Liverpool visit St James’ Park in this Saturday lunchtime encounter.

United will be keen to banish the memories of last season and the 6-0 defeat inflicted upon us by Liverpool but to do so they will need to be at their very best.

Liverpool have started the season well and occupy second spot prior to kick-off, but a point will take them top ahead of Arsenal albeit that may only be the case on a temporary basis depending on their result against Norwich at the Emirates. Anyway, it’s far too early in the season to be worrying about league position… Isn’t it?

News of injuries for both sides, some stats and facts and a history of the fixture are available to view in the match preview which was posted yesterday and can be viewed via the links at the bottom of the article. Team news, as ever, will be posted in below as and when it becomes available.

We are being shown here in the UK on the new BT Sport channel which is a first for us I believe. Overseas we’re being broadcast on a load of channels throughout the world so picking up a stream will, hopefully, be simple enough. If you do find a good one then please don’t be shy with and leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

That’s just about it really. No need to babble on any further so I’ll leave you all to “go with the flow” as it were. I just hope that we aren’t left talking about another horror show come full-time.

Howay the lads!

NOT confident but these are the games that just sometimes can make your season.

  2. Get to half time on level pegging and we’re sorted, Liverpool would be 2nd bottom of the league if only second halves counted 😯

    Howay the Lads

  3. Cisse dropped i see, After killing the lads momentum from the previous year by shoehorning him into an innefectual 442 with Ba and then out wide. Pardew has taken to dropping him the match immediately after he gets himself back in the goals.

Bizarre management, But i criticised him for dropping Anita against Cardiff and that worked out quite well…

  5. stupid to drop cisse after scoring this last week… talk about knocking confidence. AP just said ‘ i hope cisse gets an international goal to do wonders for his confidence’.. well he did that and got dropped for it. Anyway.. expecting nothing other than a solid thrahing from this game.. i will go 1-4 liverpool alas.

  6. @CC, Craig
Cisse needs to stop being such a fanny.
Look at what Ba, HBA, Cabaye have done after being dropped. He needs to stop moping and show that he should be on the pitch based on merit, not sympathy.
Agree it’s strange after Pardew’s comments though.

  7. This I fear could be another high scoring game.

Not sure we’ll see much of the game and I really don’t see our defence standing up well to Moses, Suarez and Sturridge…

    2-4

  8. i am just a bit concerned that AP always drops our most sellable guys at the drop of a hat. cisse, cabaye, HBA, tiote etc.. whatever happened to standing by your guys and helping them out. Then again, i am sure that AP will be trying his very best to **** off at least one so that he puts in a transfer request to leave.. i think this is his way of doing it. its simple.. you play your best players and yes they go through rough areas etc but quality will always win the day.

  9. Joke in heres programme notes makes depressing reading. More of the same for the forseeable future

  10. All top strikers go through bad spells, I remember Shearer not scoring for England for two years. Venables was getting dogs abuse for not dropping him before euro 96. Al scored 5, Won the golden boot and signed for us after the tournament 😎

I couldnt believe he dropped him after the leeds match, The lad needs a run of games especially when hes showing signs of getting his touch back.

  11. Is good to see cisse finally drop to bench. 😈

If they say Manchester United vs Liverpool rivalry, i would say newcastle vs liverpool definitely is somewhere there too. 👿

We have various large scoreline losses(6-0) at home against them recently, as well as some big win.

Hopefully today’s match the newcastle defence to be hard-rock and no careless defending at all.

Here’s hoping we win against their rather new back-line…..suarez and Sturridge bad day office.

    Stevie get slight injury. 😳

  12. its all about the first half; thats when the dippers get almost all their goals. keep em clattered and closed for 45 and we could be ok.

      (Quote)

  13. whumpie… there is little chance of that.. we always play **** in the first 45 mins then by time we come out and play better, many times the game is already out of sight.. i think they will be 1 up within first 10 minutes.

  14. 😯 😯 WOW 😯 😯
Certainly our best possible 11 available to us today, so fair play to Pardew he’s stuck to his word.
I was critical of him for paying Lpool too much respect in the past, but he’s focused on our team today.
I think our front 3 can cause any amount of problems for their back 3 today. But equally I see their front 3 causing our back 4 problems today. Should be a good game though.

    HWTLs!!!!!!!

  15. Kinnears programme notes make me worry even more about the kind of people we have at out club. He only talks about the gulf in commercial deals between us and the top teams. I thought he was the director of football, not economics!

The reason Spurs have good commercial deals is because a few years ago they showed a bit of ambition and signed some good players, finished 6th or so them pushed on and finished 4th, qualified for the CL and then surprise surprise the top notch commercial deals started flooding in. What did we do when we finished 5th? We weakened our squad!!!

The bollocks they talk is embarrassing and they are taking us all for mugs!

      (Quote)

  16. i think our biggest issue is our defence is basically **** without taylor and colo in there, today they will look like a comedy double act.

      (Quote)

  17. Oh yeah I forgot! Wouldn’t it help our commercial dept if SD actually paid for their advertising?

      (Quote)

  18. My only worry is if we all out attack it will suit Liverpool who will counter attack at great speed . It’s hard to know what to do for the best really. I actually don’t envy Pards today, we aren’t strong enough at the back to play a defensive game but if we go for the throat they could kill us on the counter 🙄 .; Oh well 100% from the lads is all I ask and no silly red cards either. 19. the nufc propeganda machine only ever spews out reasons why they can not or will not spend any money. besides.. we dont even compete with teams in the championship on spending so fuk knows why he only mentions top prem teams. stupid fat fuk needs to **** off on a permanent holiday.

  20. Craig – Saylor is ALWAYS injured so HTF can he be one of our best defenders?!.
Also, if we’ve watched the last 2 games, Willo was arguably our best defender!.

Stop being so defeatist mate, the game hasn’t even kicked off yet man!

      (Quote)

  21. ha ha.. sharpy.. i will ask you that again 15 mins after kick off. not defeatist… just plain simple truth, some have blind faith and thats great also, me though, if its **** i say its ****. i want us to win of course, we just will not i think thats all. i dont even think we will have a good go at them until its too late. Ap is way too defensive minded and that will cost us the game, every time. attack is best form of defence, play to your own strengths and not theirs.. all things ap never does.

      (Quote)

  22. Craig – hands up, I accused AP of being too defensive against Lpool in the past – but you can’t look at that team and accuse him of that today like!.
I don’t have blind faith, we are underdogs today in most people’s books – and rightly so. Lpool have had a cracking start to the season and we’ve stuttered along – but to write them off before a ball has been kicked is defeatist mate.
You can be realistic – but get behind the team and support them mate.

  23. Has Pardew spoken about dropping Cisse? It’s possible that it’s about travel weariness from Africa, I suppose, but certainly his form must be part of the equation. His goal was excellent.

      (Quote)

  24. Sharpy , it’s defo more attacking I just hope it pays off and they don’t hit us badly with swift counters as sure our defence will crumble.

      (Quote)

  25. I think Williamson and Mbiwa are going to have a hard game today , i hope they get some protection from Tiote , if not i can see another 6-0 i am afraid ..

      (Quote)

  26. @Sharpy
Agree. He’s been unlucky with injuries, but we can never consider Steven Taylor a first team option because he spends to much time on the treatment table.

      (Quote)

  27. Dave – good start but nee one in the box when were attacking. The front 3 need to be breaking there necks to get in there IMO along with Sissoko or Cabaye backing them up.

Good work rate in the 1st 3/4 of the pitch so far though.

      (Quote)

  28. Kim @ 63 I never noticed until you pointed it out

Sharpy @ 62 yeah , for me Sissoko just hasn’t really done much so far this season and at times is poor
