Game On! Newcastle v Norwich

Game On at SJP
Game On at SJP
Good afternoon all, and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through every twist and turn of the visit of Norwich City this afternoon.

Expectations are higher for this one than they have been for any other match in recent weeks. Impressive wins against Chelsea then Tottenham have given us a platform to build on and, should results go our way, we could end up in fifth place by the end of the game.

Standing in the way of that is Chris Hughton. The former United manager is under pressure at Carrow Road and will need to avoid another disappointing result if he is to keep the wolves from the door. The memory of the 7-0 defeat to Manchester City is still fresh on the minds of the Canaries fans, and despite a 3-1 victory against West Ham in their last match I get the feeling that result only have Hughton a temporary reprieve and that another poor result could prove to be the fatal blow for his tenure at Norwich.

Anyway, moving on… For more background ahead of the match including news of injury concerns for both sides, facts, stats and a history of the fixture then why not have a peek at the match preview which is linked at the bottom of this article?

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK but will be broadcast overseas so if anyone happens to find a stream then please feel free to post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below. Team news will also be added in at the bottom of this article.

And that is just about that. As I said in the match preview this is one of those games that often leads to disappointment, but hopefully United and their band of merry, World Cup qualified, Frenchmen can allay my fears and get the job done.

Howay the lads!

  1. Djg, I agree, pain in the **** early kick offs imo.

  2. Looking forward to the game, hopefully find a decent stream
Hopefully we’ll thrash Norwich although now I’ve said that we’ll probably get beaten – just never know with the toon

  3. I just like how most fans are talking about the next game, it’s a refreshing change.

One thing was mentioned last week from a toon player about ‘if we keep a clean sheet, no doubt Remy will do the business at the other end’. That sums up our way of playing the past few seasons and also explains why we don’t thrash teams.

We keep things tight first then we are patient for chances to come. In Pardews pre match interview he says we might have a 10 minutes spell where we could win the game which also backs up the point about our tactics going into a game.

  6. I just can’t have Shola, sorry. Pardew is sticking with a winning side but in my opinion he’s passing up the opportunity to improve.

    Ashley out!

  7. Think this will be a tricky game today , Norwich have some decent players and i believe they will finish mid table come the end of the season . Hughton will have them fired up too beat his old club but i reckon we will get a 2-0 or 2-1 win . Shame to see the stories of Colo wanting to go back to Argentina coming out again but that said , we have proved we can defend without him and Tiote has become a good captain .

  10. Well, I got the defensive call correct, Mbwia to right back. That’s a canny bench to call upon if we’re needing goals. Good to see Haidara back in the swing..

  11. MM, aye, didn’t think he would switch Santon. I love the way Tim Krul says ‘sunshine’. Alreet sonshoine! 😀

  12. would of liked Anita in at right back and Williamson , Mbiwa to have continued as the CB pairing but Pards has called the shots right in the last few games so fair do’s .

Aye mate, with Collo making comments about wanting to leave I wouldn’t rush him back unless there was a specific need. I’m not convinced he’s the player he was 2 seasons ago either.

  14. Well if we win today.

Surely Joe Kinnear will be in line for his sixth manager of the year award. 😆

Can’t see us losing today. So I fully expect us to lose this one.

Don’t think Pardew has picked the best team for THIS fixture, but it should be more than good enough to beat Norwich who I think are beyond **** anyway. Especially with their leading striker injured.

We’ll have to play very badly to lose.

    Munich,

Is Mbiwa right back or is he playing left with Santon shifting to the right?

Was an excellent match. Two young managers that play great football.

I think we’ll narrowly win, maybe draw depending on how badly Pard’s stuffs this. We should win comfortably though if we attacked them.

Hope Shola has one of his good games. It could be the difference between a convincing win or a scrappy win/draw.

  16. Remy is always in the right place.

Great start, great delivery from Cabaye. Horrible defending from a **** **** team.

If I can give Pard’s any credit, he’s definately a bit better than Hughton.

  17. Newkie,

Its still not a worked team goal like the Gouff, Anita interchange, which I’d like to see more of, BUT it was a goal from a corner 😯 😯

      (Quote)

  18. Shola three touches, given it away three times. People argue his hold up play is better than Cisse’s 😆

    He’s so bad… Still he’s likable.

  19. I should have put money on us scoring from a corner. Odds must have been 230/1 😆

Been really **** football since the goal. I must say.

  20. We may be winning, but they look much more accomplished on the ball. As if they actually know each other. Our lot can’t keep the ball in the team for longer than 10 passes.

  21. Good take down by Shola…but then he lost it… so he’s still 4/4

We really do lack a quality striker that can hold the ball up. You need that in a 4-4-2 formation. Shola is way too inconsistent.
It means our midfield plays the ball about in our half and try play through balls from deep instead of the final third.

That’s probably why Pard’s wanted Gomis so badly.

  22. MM

I just hope Cabaye isn’t too up for it. His tackling is very border line.

Come on another goal from a corner…

      (Quote)

  23. Should do better.
JJ I don’t know what game you’re watching but Shola is actually having a decent game 😕

  24. Big D, we’ve been good value mate, playing good fast football. Could and should be 3 – 1 up to be honest mate..
