Game On! Crystal Palace v Newcastle

Game On at Selhurst Park
Game On at Selhurst Park
Newcastle travel to South London today to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in what is our last match before Christmas.

After drawing last weekend against Southampton, and ideal present from the lads would be for us to get back to winning ways against the Eagles.

However it won’t be easy. A few weeks ago Crystal Palace were in danger of limping out of the Premier League with barely a whimper, but a new manager and new approach under Tony Pulis seems to have given them some renewed hope. Indeed a win today coupled with other results falling for them elsewhere could see them lifted out of the bottom three just in time for Christmas.

United are capable of winning this one but they will need to match the fight and effort a side put together by Tony Pulis will put into a match. If they can do that then eventually our quality should show through but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens I guess.

For more background information about the match including a history of the fixture, injury concerns for each side and some stats and facts then why not take a look at the match preview if you’ve not already done so? Just scroll down the page and look for the link.

The match will not be shown live here in the UK but it has been listed for broadcast by several overseas channels so picking up a stream should be a possibility. Normal rules apply though which means if you do find a stream then share it with others by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added in fully below as soon as I can get my hands on it. I’ll actually be able to watch the game today as I don’t start work until later which is a bonus for me. Hopefully the players can put on a show for me, and for all of us.

Howay the lads!

  1. On paper, we should win – better players, full strength team.

I wan’t too disappointed with the draw vs Southampton but anything less than a deserved win today won’t be good enough.

Who will pardew leave out? Interesting decisions to be made. Whoever gets dropped should start the game on thursday.

No point having tired players on the pitch – just look at what happened at swansea.

  2. happy to see this line-up…. suggests we’re going to try and control the game, rather than play for 2nd balls off hoofs to Shola

  3. Cheers Toonsy, Well we should win but are our players up for this like they were for Man u 😕 If they don’t work like dogs and get stuck in we are doomed no matter who we are playing.

  4. Wow, that is a strong lineup!!

I can’t possibly see how we would lose the midfield battle – Tiote, Sissoko, Cabaye & Anita!

I can’t remember a time when they’ve all started together.

It could be 451 or 433 or 4231. A lot of fluidity in the team.

So i guess we should expect to see ameobi, shola, cisse, hadaira in the team on thursday

  5. Toonsy i always have worries when we are favorites. It never seems to go well.

Its a strong line up, lets hope Pardew has the game plan right.

KK im pretty sure they all started against Man United.

  6. Interesting selection IMO. Very strong in midfield but 4 fairly similar midfielder so will be interesting to see how it works out. Very attack minded bench tho which suggests that Pards may have a plan.

Toon 1-3 for me today …. HWTLs

  7. Santii – Yeah I agree. In a way I always expect us to play well against the likes of Man U etc etc. For years though we’ve always struggled being favourites and I’ve got that same feeling today 🙁

  8. I have a feeling we are going too bag a monster score today and do our goal difference some good 5 or 6 nil .

  9. NUFC: Moussa Sissoko and Cheick Tiote are both one booking away from suspension but Yohan Cabaye has served his one match ban and is available again.

    😳 😳

  10. Doh!

Yes they started vs man utd! For some reason i thought cabaye (scored the winner!) was suspended for that one.

I’m all over the place today.

  11. all this pressure has come from us fannying around in our own half and giving the ball away.
