Game On! Norwich v Newcastle

Magpies take on Canaries
Magpies take on Canaries
Good evening all. Just a quick article here to take you through the clash with Norwich this evening.

Why is it quick? Well because I’m slaving away at work once more so haven’t had much time to get anything done recently but hopefully the game tonight will give you all enough to talk about anyway and the relative shortness of this article will not be noticed much.

I’ve gone into the fixture in more detail in the match preview which you can view here including injury news for both sides, a history of the fixture and some fun facts and stats for you to run your eyes over. Please take some time to have a look if you haven’t already done so.

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK but will be broadcast on a number of overseas channels so hopefully picking up a stream won’t be too much of an issue. I suspect it might be though so if you do happen to stumble across a stable stream then please share it with your fellow fans and post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

Early team news has been touched upon in the previously linked match preview but for official team news please check the bottom of this article roughly one hour before kick-off where you should find it in all of its glory.

Howay the lads!

  1. @Axel

I think Sammy is definitely good enough for the premier league. He really needs to work on his fitness though. He always looks knackered after about 60/70 minutes

  2. I know some don’t care about the result 🙄 but I think that was one that got away.

Another point to add to everybody’s appearance stats. 😆

  4. Santii is succint:
We didn’t play bad or amazing but we were a hell of a lot better than Norwich

A good manager would have made a change that would have changed the game.

Both managers are **** & neither of them did anything usefull.

Good point regarding the fitness of fringe players. Perhaps if the team had been rotated more often then they would be a bit fitter whilst other players would not have been so fatigued.

I have to keep saying it. MARVEAUX.

    Where is Marveaux.

He is the game changer & is the only player that can consistently create clear cut chances.

I hope Pardew gets forced into playing him. I imagine there is some animosity between the two which is why he’s been frozen out.

I’d support Pardew if he actually knew what he was doing but he doesn’t. He just does the same thing every game. So predictable.

If i gambled, i’d be a millionaire because it’s so obvious the changes he makes.

  5. BeardsleysBoots,

Even if the appeal is rejected, doesn’t the appeal process mean he would be eligible to play the next game then get a 4 game ban instead of 3?

I distinctly remember John Terry or Rio Ferdinand appealling a red card they knew was right just to let them play the next game because it was a big game.

  6. Buggered for the weekend
    Cisse out bad back
    Remy out ban
    Goofy out injured
    Benny out injured
    Cabs left us

That’s our big game players all likely missing, those jammy gets will win again unless De Jong is a one man scoring machine like.

  7. Axel – bloody hell mate, sounds painful. Bet it’s got right in the way of your day to day tasks as well.
I suffer from vertigo so nee chance of getting me up a ladder.

  9. on the fitness subject , didnt we get a fitness coach in that had worked with the England rugby team and she is apparently one of the best in sport ?well why is some of our players not capable of a full 90 minutes ? is it her fault or maybe Pards training methods . Theplayers did complain about the training after last season finished .

  10. @brisvegas

Everbody cares about the result. I’m not sure why you would think otherwise 🙄

Some people care about the performance more.

    I don’t see a problem with that.

  12. Pardew has said the red card won’t be appealed. No way the FA would over turn it and may add to the ban. The bloke feigned injury and is a **** but Remy should know better. I hate that **** but the game has gone soft 👿

      (Quote)

  13. So it’s not too bad.

15 games left. If we get 11 wins 😯 we should be in the mix for champions league footie.

    11 wins. That’s……doable 😕

  14. I see Martinez has said Lukaku may be out for a while as it is a bad injury.

At least we have a hope of keeping up the chase for fifth place but at the moment, we are a little island of our own away from everyone and then Southampton are in the same position below.

Ourselves and Southampton have really strange positions on the table.

      (Quote)

  15. Ice – 😆 I think you might be right mate 😆

    Axel – I hope that doesn’t mean you’re sat there naked covered in ***** mate 😯 😕

  16. It should be goid to see how everton cope without Lukaku.

I think Martinez is a good manager on the way up but Steve Clarke paid the price when Lukaku left.

Will Everton struggle? I don’t think so but we’ll see.

Southampton did better against Arsenal than we did.

We could have won if we had rested some players before the Arsenal game but it’s not the first or last time that we’ve not taken advantage.

    Still, i guess that’s football

  17. I reckon 10-12 points from the remaining games will secure us 8th spot.
Not great but a vast improvement on last season. I do hate those relegation battles

  19. Saturday could be the day Sunderland escape relegation 😯

We were defo the better team 2nite. Benny & Sammy played well as did sissoko.

We need to keep practicing our free-kicks as thats where we missed Cabs.

Overall, unlucky not to win but a decent performance considering we had a few missing.

      (Quote)

  20. “He had a terrific spell in Holland, we were really keen on him at that moment,” Pardew told Sky Sports following Newcastle’s 0-0 draw at Norwich.

“He went to Germany and it has not quite worked out for him for whatever reason, so we are kind of giving him a chance.

“The platform for him is to come, play as well as he can and see if he can earn a contract here. He has got the credentials, he is a big target man with a good technique, he is the type of player our fans like.”

Pardew was also hopeful that Newcastle director of football Joe Kinnear may be closing in on some other arrivals before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

“I will speak to Joe tomorrow, hopefully they have worked hard today and hopefully we will have some positive news when I wake up.”

    also said..

“I was obviously on the phone to the powers that be, particularly Joe and Mike and Lee Charnley and Graham Carr.

“Let’s get moving and see what we can get because we obviously had one or two targets we had earmarked if he went.

    “We’re chasing those down.”

  21. Lets face it i know saturday is the Derby but they are not in he bottom 3 for nothing and we are not 19 points ahead of them for nothing . Its at SJP and their new manager has had his first few games ,their will be no Di Cannio effect like last time round . They are their for the taking and with a new striker in we should be ready for it ,we are better than them and we have a score to settle . Lets bring it on , i cant wait for kick off WE WILL DO THEM

      (Quote)

  22. I can’t believe we didn’t win by at least 2 goals there. Nothing like the boring, worst game of the season 0-0 at Carrow Road last time. Just goes to show that 2 totally different games can have the same outcome and points haul. Can’t blame Pardew or the Cabaye deal for that, we were just desperately unlucky in my humble opinion. To top it off, we lose Remy for 3 games after Debuchy was missing for what seem an age. If Luuk De Jong ever wanted to be a hero and prove Munich Mag wrong, cometh the hour, 😮

The Press Association reports that Newcastle have made an undisclosed, but substantial bid for 23-year-old Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier.

      (Quote)

  28. Further more it will probably flush out Arsenal to bid for him now as they have been watching him too, if it comes to us or them we are buggered.

      (Quote)

  29. Pardew’s comments about tilting at CL “in the next season, or few seasons” are interesting. Is he just creating a smokescreen for Ashley? It seemed pretty certain that Ashely’s ‘ambition’ is a 6-10 finish year in and out. We can all see that the squad is 4-5 proper first team players light of being able to compete above that. Actions not words will tell us, but if we off-loaded one or two dead-wood and brought in De Jong and a first tram AM now, and continued that in the summer, we wouldn’t be too far away from an Everton.

      (Quote)

  30. Gallowgate I can see that. 6-10 is about right for where we are. Looking at finances Everton and us are much the same in terms of squad value and average player. It’s Spurs and Liverpool who have squad values double us, with wages to suit. Let alone the top 4 who are 3 times our size. FFP my ****.

      (Quote)

  31. Bradley Johnson is one horrible **** by the way, total over reaction last night, I’m still seething at that but Remy shouldn’t of reacted to him.

      (Quote)

  32. Prem, I think we more than match Pool in all departments bar forwards, Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho are the difference imo.

      (Quote)

  33. Prem, that’s right, and one step at a time. It may be that they don’t have a dead wood clear out or reinvest in the squad at all and that will tell us a lot. If there was decent reinvestment, however, to a plan of being ‘best of the rest’, like I’ve said before, that’s a platform for a cup, any cup, and the possibility of a challenge to the established powers – which is what Everton have done for years ( pand it took Moyes five seasons, and some major players sales to create that stability)

      (Quote)

  34. GTW, but there seems no interest in trying to win a cup, tbh that’s all I want really, we know top 4 is unrealistic in the present economics of our league, until there is more parity of wealth the cups are what we should be aiming for imo.

      (Quote)

  35. Just imagine if the Scum avoid relegation (as looks likely ) and win the league cup 👿 ,which isn’t impossible given what Wigan did to City last year and Gus ability to get his teams up for cup games. Cannot stand the thought of the gloating from that lot ,especially if they win the derby as well.

  36. You’ve got to love it that when players are deemed fitter than usual and everyone is working hard its down to Faye Downey, but when they look tired it’s because of Pardew 😆

Aussie-some psychoanalyst now are you! I think he is just pretty gutted Cabaye is gone, like most I guess. He probably thought as much as us that w’ed keep him til the summer. While they might bid for him surely it would have made sense to have him play at the world cup…oh well.

His words about investment are interesting though. Top 4? Nee chance of that even if we invested the whole 20 mil.

      (Quote)

  37. “You’ve got to love it that when players are deemed fitter than usual and everyone is working hard its down to Faye Downey, but when they look tired it’s because of Pardew”…It’s about time you cottoned onto how this place works 😉

  38. Only saw the first half online. Looked good. Obviously we would have won with Cabaye. Seriously though the effort was there, but unfortunately so was the woodwork. Sammi looked decent. Did he create as much as Marveaux would? Hatam & Remi looked effective, but need to link up a bit more? both playing well with what the were given but not looking at each other? Ultimately a point away from home is respectable, but more a case of 2 points dropped. Funny how some of these players we missed out on look gash.

      (Quote)

  39. Richie 😆 Couldn’t resist!

I actually thought Sammy did really well yesterday but he did lose his way after about 65 mins. I was surprised Haidara came on at the wing but I guess he had more energy to press around the pitch. Anyway Sammy>Obertan for me, think it’s a good shout giving him some game time now as he could work well with De Jong.

Dead nervous about the weekend now though. So many injuries to the front line, fingers crossed some of them come back 😕

      (Quote)

  40. Is Benny injured then? I thought he just came off cos he had cramp and was knackered.

Prem…The players we missed out on looked gash because Hoots has coached all the skill out of them 😉

      (Quote)

  41. Newkie, I am a big believer in body language mate, when my missus has her arms crossed when I’m talking to her, I know there is no point asking for sex anytime soon. 😆

      (Quote)

  42. I see we have bid for Grenier. I assume Lyon will want top dollar for him as they will know there’s only 3 days left to buy him, were desperate as we sold Cabaye and it’s January with a premium! Now we aren’t usually a club who pay a penny more than needed so I don’t think it will happen.

      (Quote)

  43. Aussie…That’s where I’m going wrong then, I thought it was when they had their legs crossed 😆

      (Quote)

  44. Gallowgate Terrace West

    Nice post @ 272

I think that exactly what we are aiming to do and have been aiming for. A major problem is though the majority of the fans want success right now and if they don’t get they throw their toys out of the pram and get the bed sheets out again.

      (Quote)

  45. Prem-Remy and Benny both did well, esp first half. I think the problem with Remy is that he is so keen to drift into the left channel that it causes problems for whoever is on our right wing. It means Debuchy is pumping crosses to the far post and Benny is trying too much because there’s nobody to play a one two in the box. De Jong can surely help with that bit.

Remy and Sammy looked good together though, decent understanding for them. But Sissoko in the middle frustrated me yet again. We have a 2 on 2 and he has a chance to release Remy, instead he dithers and it becomes 2 on 6. I don’t think the vision is there to play in an advanced midfield role. Better to stick him on the wing with simple instructions, breeze past/brush off your man and cut it back for whoever is in the box. Keep it simple. That’s how he has become our top assister this season after all…

  46. Didn’t they want£12m 😕

  48. Kim…Sometimes the kick to the bollox before crossing the legs was a slight clue as well 😯 😉

Soooo Benny then, any links or confirmation to say he was injured anyone?

      (Quote)

  49. Kim…Yeah but generally the selling club says what they want, the buying club offers less than that and a compromise is reached….unless it’s Newcastle buying, then of course we “generally” tell them to **** off 😉

      (Quote)

  50. Norwich looked really poor to me, worse than last time, so it shows how there are some poor sides in the bottom 10 if Norwich are not down the bottom. We deserve our position in the top half this season because we are better than these sides.

      (Quote)

  51. I read they wanted £10m, So £8.5m seems like a sensible starting point. I can see them meeting the asking price I think its dependant on the players yay or nee personally.

      (Quote)

  52. Kim…Ouch 😆

Newkie…Ah reet, just cos I’ve seen nothing on him being injured, like I say he defo had cramp so I reckon/hope he was just bolloxed

      (Quote)

  53. Shame about the result, seems like we massively deserved to win.
I’m pretty resigned to this season being over tbh – annoying but most clubs have to deal with it, we are just so used to by very, very good or very, very bad so I think most of us are at a loss at how to deal with consolidation seasons ❗ 😆
Grenier is supposed to be very good – perhaps more suited to the attacking role that Cabaye was asked to play ❓ Always saw Cabaye as a Xabi Alonso type player more than an attacking mid.
Goals for this season now should be:
    Ensure we get top 7/8.
    Give serious game-time to HBA/Cisse/Marveaux/Saylor
If they aren’t rated – ship out and replace with younger players that are on cheaper wages but have potential to improve.
