Game On! Chelsea v Newcastle

Game on at Chelsea!
Game on at Chelsea!
Hello all and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through our tussle at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

You may have noticed that there is no match preview for this game. There are two reasons for that, the main one being that my lad spilt something on my laptop and now half of the keys won’t work so I’m reduced to writing on my phone which is tricky to say the least.

Anyway hopefully it will only be a short term issue until I can get it fixed or replaced. Speaking of short term issues, our lack of available players will also hopefully be a short term issue. We’re missing a few for this one but you’ll be able to see the official team news at the bottom of this article.

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK but it is being broadcast across the globe so picking up a stream shouldn’t be too difficult. If you do find a particularly decent stream then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

After the derby defeat last weekend the only way to bounce back is with a win but at Stamford Bridge that won’t be easy so perhaps we should be looking for a vastly improved performance instead?

Howay the lads!

  1. Munich – Redmond chose Norwich over Newcastle because Norwich put a bid in for him and Newcastle didn’t!, it’s as simple as that mate.
It’s stupid really coz in the same way we should have done a swap deal Gosling for Ince, we should have done a swap deal Ferguson for Redmond. We may have had to put a bit of cash towards it but not a great amount and we would have had 2 very talented young players who can both play on the wings and look to get crosses in.
Even without the swap deals though, both players would have cost a grand total of £2.5m – Redmonds fee as Ince was a fee transfer. That’s 500k less than what we paid for Obertan 😯 🙁

  2. Sharpy17@376…thanks for the correct answer to my trick question mate 😳 😳 😳 I was sure we were chasing Redmond, but maybe we weren’t interested after all. If we didn’t put a bid in that says it all ….doh…my bad… 🙄

Much better for us to fart around chasing Frenchmen who don’t really want to come to the toon anyway 😳 😳 Doesn’t strengthen the team at all, but it’s good for the bank balance 🙂

  3. KK@341 “I think we have the 7th or 8th best squad in the league.”
What league position are we in?

  4. Team: Krul, Debuchy (Yanga-Mbiwa 40), Williamson, S.Taylor, Dummett, Anita (Marveaux 84), Santon, Ben Arfa (Gosling 64), Sissoko, Sa.Ameobi, De Jong.
Subs n/u: Elliot, Haidara, Sh.Ameobi, Armstrong.
Saylor over Yanga is a poor shout. And Santon in midfield was questionable to say the least.
But look at that squad. Woeful. Krul, Debuchy, Anita, HBA, Sissoko. That’s only five players in a squad of 16 that would be considered by any European clubs.
I think Pardew has to shoulder a fair bit of the blame for the last two results. But I don’t envy a manager trying to motivate his players, when his own superiors have signalled by their actions that the season is over. If players now know that they aren’t playing for anything, and are looking to save energy and fitness for the world cup, then there is nothing Pardew can really do about it. Ashley’s fault.

  5. Nice to see a local girl from Bristol ,Jenny Jones get a Bronze in Snowboarding at the Winter Olympics, first for GB in Snowboarding well done girl. 😎 😎 😀

Back to football, some strange decisions by Pards yesterday for me, why Santon in MF :???:why not start Marv, bringing him on so late was pointless and always going to lead to him possibly making an error in an effort to try and impress in so little time 🙄

  6. Well I’m hoping our season will be back on track when we meet Hull, Remy will be back and hopefully fresh after his little 3 game rest, also you would hope Cisse, Debs and Goofy would be recovered too by then. We have a little bit extra time to prepare for Hull given it’s a cup weekend after the Spuds game, we know Pards likes his prep time so he won’t have an excuse in that dept. It will be all about ,tactics, whos fit and team spirit .

  7. Ginola has said the other french players will want to leave toon in the summer,Ginola is looking to get into coaching we could do worse than get
him in to look after rescues imo

      (Quote)

  8. @Kim @388

exactly what ive been saying. If we had a small chance of Remy staying the window gone would of helped, had we shown ambition..

I can see a mini exodus of players. Debs, Krul, Tiote and perhaps the likes of Sissoko, Goofy will be asking where we’re heading.

I’m not sure we have enough money to replace the ones already destined to leave and also strengthen just to keep pace.. Pards said maybe 3-4 players in.. 👿

      (Quote)

  9. Mark@394, I’m not sure if Sissoko nor Goofy will be in a position to better themselves in all honesty, ditto Debuchy. Should they want away we will most definitely make money on all of them.

Krul and Tiote are a different matter completely, because they form the backbone of the side. They are also two of our most saleable assets. Once we have a reserve goalie ready to make the step up, then Krul will be sold. I think we have 1 maybe 2 more seasons with Krul in the side, no matter what the club does in the transfer market.

  10. Ice – re Ginola, I’d prefer Stuart Pearce or even David Platt. Pearce obviously has the experience with England U21s and Platt as assistant at Man City. Both played with Beardo at England level as well so would form a good working relationship I would have thought.

I don’t think he’s interested in coaching, but I’d bloody love Rob Lee at the club.

      (Quote)

  11. @MM

I see what you mean regarding Sissoko and Goof.

They’ll maybe not a better supported club or wages but who knows where we’ll finish next season. I’m sure both could end up at Everton, Stoke, Villa or the likes of Hull. These are the teams we might be challenging with next season if we don’t buy right..

      (Quote)

  12. SHARPY sorry don’t rate platt,Pearce falls out with players to easy made apigs ear of uunder21s rob Lee is like shearer cannot stand jabba but would have been a good shout like 😉

      (Quote)

  13. Mark@397, I may have shot myself in the foot there mate. I forgot Sissoko is only 24, so he might decide himself to want to jump ship early… having said that he is on contract until 2019, so will costs someone a pretty penny… well done Ashley…

I would love us to sign 2 “Cabayes” who will bring some flair to our midfield… maybe a Grenier and a player like Mark Albrighton at Aston Villa. I watched the lad yesterday and he came off the bench for Villa and bossed the midfield. He’s also out of contract in the summer. Pity he’s from Birmingham though 🙁

Anita is not the answer in my opinion. He brings nothing offensively to the team, and we don’t need to be told he passes and retains the ball well, that is the minimum requirement for a EPL footballer. An important squad player, but at the moment not as first teamer imo..

      (Quote)

  14. Mark – can you see anyone on earth (outside of Wearside) who shares the same ambition for NUFC as Jabba?

      (Quote)

  15. Shearer was a legend on the pitch for the toon. He should leave it at that. Maybe he has an ambassadors role to play at the club, but since him and Ashley don’t get along it could be a tad tricky… :-). Shearers ego and mere presence would prise an owners wallet open…Ashley just aint into that kind of thing…hence there is no place for Shearer..

      (Quote)

  16. It doesn’t matter who is the manager. With the current ambition of the owner, the highest position we will achieve is 7th.

He got stung last time we qualified for Europa. He won’t let that happen again.

I’m also sure Ashley has no intention of sacking Pardew as long as Pardew keeps toeing the party line.

      (Quote)

  17. I don’t want Big Al anywhere near SJP until that fat ***** is gone, he’d only tarnish his image by association with the mess we are at the mo. It was bad enough when he was expected to save us with 8 games left 🙄 .

      (Quote)

  18. KIMTOON@390 he would be a good choice for DOF , but only that in the article it says dof would run the academy as well .IMO that should not be the case a DOF should only be responsible for transfers in and out and contract extentions . The academy should be run by a different person with the sole aim of bring in young kids ,coaching them too a high standard and having some of them make a break through in to the reserves and first teams . I honestly think a great choice for that role would be Glen Hoddle ,he is out of a job but has coaching experience and has played at the very highest level both home and abroad and proabably speaks a bit of French considering he played for Monaco 😉

      (Quote)

  19. Ice – I think Pearce was hindered heavily at U21s with players not wanting to play at that level. I remember him doing an interview basically saying that giving some players full caps before they are 21 leaves them thinking they are too good for the U21 team. He never felt he had the pick of ALL the players available to him.
I’m a huge Pearce fan personally and have been from a kid when he was at Forest. But I know what you mean about him falling out with players – but then so did the last one 😆 As long as psycho doesn’t start swinging things should be ok 👿 😆

  20. We’re all limited by our lack of knowledge of football overseas.

Names like Shearer, Ginola, Pearce, Platt, Hoddle, Roeder etc have been mentioned.

If there is one thing we should all know by now is that English managers & coaches are rubbish (most of them anyway)

Ginola is not English but i doubt he is better than the likes of Pearce etc.

We need good coaches & a good DoF. The problem we have is these are usually jobs behind the scenes so it’s much harderto actually reel off a list of good options.

That’s why we’ve all said familiar names.

Does anybody know who was responsible for Cabaye, Debuchy & Hazard ending up at Lille?

Or how Silva & Mata ended up at Valencia.

Or how Porto keep buying unknown players before the become big stars.

The coaches, manager & DoF at clubs like these are the ones we should be looking to bring in. Not somebody like hoddle

      (Quote)

  21. Axel@406, I honestly hadn’t even given Glen a second thought ,but yeah why not but as you say only in charge of transfers like.

Ice@405, Is that right, never knew that like 😯 thought they was still mates.

  22. ICEDOG @411 i read that on another blog too , if they were to take over SJP would loose its name straight away and would we be called United anymore ?or Newcastle Red Bulls .I am sure they already sponser /own a couple of teams in Europe .

      (Quote)

  23. AXEL I just what someone that cares for the club and fans, does not have to multi rich it would help like, and only thinks how to feather their nest

      (Quote)

  24. ICEDOG i want the same i am just scared we get an owner like Cardiff city’s or Hull’s that want too change everthing too their liking . I could not stand it if we did not play in Black and White stripes anymore or were called anything different . The stadium i could live with so long as it was too earn so much that it takes us into the Level Chelsea or Man City are at .

      (Quote)

  25. Redbull own or are involved with quite a few sports teams worldwide, most if not all have Redbull in the name of the team now. If that was to be the case then no thanks.

      (Quote)

  26. Axel – You know that with our luck Ashley would sell to Kim Jong-Un! He’d turn down an Arab or an oligarch just to spite us.

But I am still waiting for the richest man in China or India to buy a PL club. Two huge countries with a potential gold mine of supporters in their countries.

The sovereign investment fund of China will do me. 🙂

      (Quote)

  27. SHARPY well rooted out mate, your quick off the mark (for a change) 😉

see that dog doing wonders for you 😉

      (Quote)

  28. ssssshhhhhhh…….in whispering voice…. just let’s get Red Bull buying the toon, so we can get Ashley out of here. Fan power is so strong at the toon that they would relent after one year and change the name from Newcastle Red Bull back to Newcastle United. Our stadium sponsors Schweppes would also agree to this …

There again, I would settle for Newcastle Black Bull as long as Ashley was out of here 🙂

      (Quote)

  29. our little bit of glory at OT, not looking so class now ,seems the whole PL can get the better of them nowadays, Fulham doing a grand job here like.

      (Quote)

  30. RT@420, Red Bull Salzburg dominate the Austrian League, and Red Bull Leipzig are flying through the lower Bundesliga’s like a rat up a drainpipe… Next stop 2nd Bundesliga…

At the same time it baffles me how Red Bull have became such a world force…all based on a caffeine based fizzy drink 🙄 they seem to ba aaaal ower the place, footy, snowboarding, Formula 1 etc etc… maybe they are not the ideal “long term” owner ?

      (Quote)

  31. Munich…Yeah they do seem to be everywhere and doing well but under no circumstances would I want the name of Newcastle United to change.

      (Quote)

  32. I think our season target is whether we finish above Manchester United or below them. 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  33. Ice – I have to be honest, I found it a few days back when I was thinking about who would make a good DoF in place of JK – Hollier sprung to mind but I reckon he’ll be kept busy in the role he’s in.

Maybe they would be content leaving the name but going with Red Bull Arena and shirt sponsorship. I wouldn’t want to loose SJP, but it would be better than changing Newcastle United.

      (Quote)

  34. Sharpy17 mate, therein lies the trick question……

Would toon supporters agree to a name change if it meant Red Bull taking over NUFC ? Answers on the back of a postcard please 🙂

My response would be something like ….hmmm….grrr…. hmmm….

      (Quote)

  35. Kim…Yep you’re right…would make the gap between scum and Fulham only 2 points instead of 5 which can only be good

      (Quote)

  36. The Red Bull rumour is a year old now. There could be some truth in it.

They change the Salzburgs strip to Red and white 😯 to suit their brand colours

      (Quote)

  37. Munich – for me, not if it interfered with the name NUFC – not a chance for me. But if they said, right we leave the club name alone but we change SJP to Red Bull Arena and had the shirt sponsorship then I reckon I could just about live with that – but only if it included taking Ashley into space and dropping him from a very great height (minus the parachute!)

      (Quote)

  38. Well here’s a thing , imagine they buy us and together with the other teams they own we qualify for the CL . Would Uefa allow it ? different teams same owner in the same competition?

      (Quote)

  39. SHARPY before they took him up then dropped him first they make him personally take down all the SD signs and then in their place make him hang up the Red Bull signs .

      (Quote)

  40. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_Racing

I’ve changed my mind of the Red Bull ownership I think. I’ve just looked at the wiki site (above) and every team they own has the same badge logo – why would they allow or what different for us?. They have/are growing their own brand and attaching it to these sports clubs increases their brand awareness.
I don’t see them changing their ways for us to be honest

  43. KK @ 408

Can’t speak for all of those teams but Porto for instance have scouts in Brazil. Same Language and can bring in kids from there. We have much stricter regulations re non EU citizens and hence we are restricted in who we can bring in.

I think you will find that the French clubs bring in from North Africa.

So maybe it’s simply they have access to more kids than we do??

      (Quote)

  44. Bad luck for Fulham ,did well to hold out for so long, still they might level it you never know.

Not digging this red bull rumour much, We are NUFC, we play at SJP in black and white . Any potential owner who wants to change that can ****off. Got to say though it would be just like that fat **** to flog us to someone who would put us in red, just as a last parting shot. 👿
