Game On! Southampton v Newcastle

Game On at St Mary's
Game On at St Mary’s
North travels South today as two teams from opposing ends of the country face each other at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon.

The difference in geographical location is however a complete opposite when you look at the close proximity of these two sides in the league table.

Realistically one of us is going to finish 8th and one of us is going to finish 9th. It’s just a matter of who finishes above the other and I get the feeling that the game this afternoon will have a rather large bearing on the answer to that particular question come the end of the season.

Later than I would have liked, but last night I did indeed publish a match preview which can be viewed here. It details a history of the fixture, news of injury concerns from both sides, some stats and some associated waffling so take a look if you haven’t already done so.

You all know the drill with regard to live TV transmission of kick-off at this time here in the UK so once again a lot of people will be looking for streams. The good news is that some overseas channels are showing the game so finding a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue. You can find links in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added in below as and when I can get to it but it shouldn’t be too much after 2pm although someone will always post it in the comments far quicker than my ageing hands can get around a keyboard.

Howay the lads!

  1. I feel Ashley will replace Pardew at the end of the season. Wishful thinking possibly on my part. I just wonder what Ashley’s motives are for suddenly attending games. I think he has something up his sleeve.

  2. Well although it pains me greatly to admit, but Troy has it nailed on.
Why would Ashley sack/replace the clown, when he is achieving the targets set to him by Ashley.
Pardew is a dinosaur no doubt about it. He is a total clown when it comes to tactics, style of play and even a game plan. He is limited in so many ways it’s embarrassing.
But to achieve what he has, with the rug being constantly pulled from under him by fatty is no mean feat.
Ashley is the cancer plain and simple. His lack of ambition for the club, other than mid table mediocrity would ham string any other manager. Most of whom would have the spine to tell him to shove it.
Relegation or the threat (fret 😳 ) of relegation is all the fat bastid is worried about.
PL status, management stability and mid table ambitions are all that matters.
The sooner everyone accepts that the better. Because nowts gonna change anytime soon.

  3. A possible 4 points for the remainder of the season would give us 50. It doesn’t sound that bad but some of our matches have been absolutely shocking. Some of the worst football I can ever remember watching us play. Forget the smiles and handshakes Alan and Mike and get to work.

      (Quote)

  4. Some of the worst football ever played in the Prem was what we produced against Southampton. Did you enjoy it Mike? That’s what you’ve built in 7 years. And several other games this season were just as bad by the way so it’s not a one off.

  5. Where do we go from here mates? No decent attack without Remy. Poor linkup play. De Jong looks very weak on the ball at best. No replacement for Cabaye (do we really think we’ll get Grenier in a world cup year with our cheap owner?), a faultering, uncertain defense. And wait there’s more. Benny looks overweight and disinterested, Santon seems to be a lost cause, Colo wants to leave. And now it’s going to be up to Charnley and Pardew? God help us.

  6. G2 – chances are we’l finish in 12th. Exactly where we were when Pardew came in. No progress, no kids brought through really, flair players either ruined or totally pissed off and some utter dross still on the playing staff, game plans direct from 1988 and no ability to change except back to 442.
Just seeing his photo makes my blood boil.

  7. No worries. 😉
A full house on Saturday will be good enough for Ashley to confirm he doesn’t need to change too much this summer.

  8. Agree with Raffo,

Pardew is no better than Allardyce, or Houghton or any other **** English manager.

They are all dinosaurs. **** poor.

Anyone who believes there is no one that could do better than Pardew with this squad, even under Mike Ashley is simply in denial because they know nothing of football outside of England.

      (Quote)

  9. I don’t think you understand JJ – There are better managers out there for sure. The point is Ashley wont employ one of them.
These guys have dreams and aspirations of plying their trade and craft into taking a team as high as possible UP the league. You need to accept that this is as good as it gets under Ashley. There is no desire to PUSH ON from mid table.
We have an owner like no other.
NUFC is purely an advertising hoarding for his tatty shops. END OF.
He isn’t after making money from us nor investing any more either.
    Its a joke

  10. It’s totally depressing that’s what it is, the whole bloody set up. Pity poor Toonsy who has to try and find the stomach to write up another match report after yet another dire display, wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t bother tbh, every thing that can be said about that pile of **** has now pretty much been said anyway.

      (Quote)

  11. Kim I don’t think we will ever find anyone better than Joe Kinnear. He didn’t waste a single penny of Ashley’s money.

      (Quote)

  12. Poor Joe, He done everything Ashley expected from him and the gets knifed in the back by Pardew and Ashley.

      (Quote)

  13. Comes to a fine thing when the highlight of the week is seeing a Geordie lad help condemn the Scum to another step into oblivion . 🙄 anyway, LALAS. 😆

      (Quote)

  14. Stem@541, Ah but he did mate if you believe the rumours. Word is he sold Cabs for Euros not pounds and the final fee was not what Jabba thought he was selling for 😆 hence the letting go of Joe. Serves the **** right.

      (Quote)

  15. Surely it is in Ashleys interest in terms of saving some dosh in getting rid of pardew for a manager who will utilise the players we have. It will save a shed load of money if we can get a manager who will use the likes of ben arfa, marveaux and the young players we have properly. Pardew isnt capable, like someone said he likes workers and doesnt have any idea how to use the likes of marv and ben arfa, let alone throw the young players in i.e tavernier, Armstrong. instead of using the Ameobi shitters and playing players out of position.

I dont trust pardew with £40mil of potential carr buys in the summer.

      (Quote)

  16. Alex If Pardew had 40 million he would probably sign

    Bent 5 million
    A.C 15 million
    Jenas 5 million
    Given Free transfer
    Ba 7 million
    8 million LDJ

      (Quote)

  17. Mike Ashley wants to see attacking football. He will never see it under pardew. He wants to let all of our attacking players leave.

      (Quote)

  18. I would love us to be in Liverpool’s situation right now. They have a decent manager. They keep hold of there best players and have bought sensibly in the transfer window and it’s paying off for them now. I know we can’t afford the wages some of there players get or even the transfer fee’s that they spend.

Instead we our stuck with Pardew’s lucky victories and getting knocked out of cups in the third round. Getting absolutely humiliated at home to Sunderland our biggest rivalry. Getting shitty excuses of the manager and false promises. Bad advertising deals and shitty directors of football. A stingy owner that cares more about sports direct and selling our best players without replacements.

It’s so depressing watching slowly fading away.

      (Quote)

  19. Alex that’***** the nail on the head ( attacking football). Does Ashley ever watch these games at home in his castle.

      (Quote)

  20. Icedog I will miss the rivalry games when Sunderland go down but not with Pardew here so it’s probably a good thing for him.

      (Quote)

  21. 🙄 Wow, I remember the good old days when fan outrage against Pardew and the regime would generate over 800 posts on this here blog! 😯 Ashley is never going to change with fans being so apathetic over our current plight! I am really disappointed to see the lack of fight from the likes of Troy and Mark! I know they won’t mind me using them as an example! 😛

      (Quote)

  22. Sounds like another dogs dinner of a performance. Luckily I was too busy to watch it. I couldn’t be bothered to listen to the excuses. I just have the odd glance at what’s going on but I can’t wait for the season to end for Newcastle, which is a shocking way to feel. Pardew is safe or would not have survived the head **** imo. More **** football next season? Remy will have to be replaced with a half decent striker and other minimal investments.

      (Quote)

  23. Oz @ 555 There’s only been half a dozen posts, the rest have been cut and pasted from other days 😆

Nobody cares about these games we’re playing anyway. The season ended weeks ago, didn’t you hear? We came mediocre mid-table.

      (Quote)

  24. Vegas, yeah, why should the players care if the fans don’t!! 😉

  25. I see jabba lost in his bid to buy a Irish sports firm which was won by the work force, maybe he should turn his hand to football 😀

  26. Sturridge and Coutinho have been superb but most of Rodgers other signings have either been poor, Hardly play or loaned out:

Aspas, Alberto, Ilori, Moses, Sakho, Sissoko, Allan, Borini, Mignolet, Toure, Assidi

Hes spent more time hiding behind a couple of excellent players than Pardew has…

The reason I don’t bang on about it as much is because i have come to accept I was right along and you were wrong.

I foresaw all of this and had to try, albeit unsuccessfully, to make you see sense.

If you recall I kidnapped you in your ute. Beat you with a eucolyptus branch and stole your cans of Fosters from you.

I now just sit with a wry smile on my face, similar to the Mona Lisa, watching you at the footplate of the The Reality Train.

  28. Troy, you crack me up mate… you have been hanging with me for a few years now and you have come around to my way of thinking. There was so much anger in you back in the day, now you are more at peace! You have coame a long way under my guidance! 😉

  32. Munich mag will either be chuffed or embarrassed at the fact Toon are playing a pre season tour in Germany. 😉 😀

      (Quote)

  33. G2 ,Don’t mate ,it brings me out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. They have to get the summer signings so right or I really fear we will be in a relegation spot. The way we look at the moment that’s our true position imo ,we can thank the lord for Cabs early on and Remy and Goofy’s goals, without them 3 we’d be buggered .

      (Quote)

  34. Jabba has made 3/4 visits to the toon in his copter in the last couple of weeks, what’s Ganning on its unlike the fat git??

      (Quote)

  35. Aye it would have been a horror show without those 3 players Kimtoon lass. I just hate seeing Pardew and Ashley laughing and shaking hands while the club falls apart around them. Pair of nitwits, the two of them. And I don’t trust Charnley either. It’s terrible to have to talk this way but I just have no faith in any of them. And yes we’re going to get whacked by the Germans in the summer.

      (Quote)

  36. That does sound fishy ice mate. What’s next, a new DoF? Possibly Ruprecht SmallBerries to help with the club’s problems?

      (Quote)

  37. G2 would like to think it was pardew getting told he’s gone at end of season,or he’s selling up,a pipe dream I know but live in hope

      (Quote)

  38. Gone but not forgotten:

Kinnear set the tone on his first day at Forest when he became hopelessly lost driving around the city for hours while the club’s directors waited for him to pitch up to sign the relevant paperwork. He rang ahead for directions without picking up the trail. The place was covered in darkness by the time the club had a lightbulb moment to help him out. Or a thousand lightbulb moments. The chief executive ended up switching on the City Ground’s floodlights to guide him in.

After one defeat at Forest when Kinnear worked himself into such a froth he picked out one player, Chris Doig, for some particularly harsh criticism. Doig had actually been one of the unused substitutes.

Kinnear left a missed call on Alan Pardew’s mobile phone one night last August, unaware Newcastle were actually playing a Capital One Cup tie in Morecambe at the time.

Yet the daddy of them all will always be that little masterpiece from his first spell at St James’ when he elaborated on his time as Nepal’s national coach and the shocking events when the king’s son – “one of my closest friends,” Kinnear recalled – was instructed to “marry some bird … he wanted to marry someone else but he couldn’t … like the usual ****. So what did he do? He killed them all and then blew his own brains out. I got out of there about three days after and I have never been back.” Journalistic gold, bar one inconvenient detail. Kinnear managed Nepal in 1987. Prince Dipendra killed himself and eight members of his family in June 2001, when Kinnear was managing Luton…

    😆

  39. Ice, yeah it’s odd isn’t it. Maybe he’s done it cause Pards had the ban like, to show solidarity or something 😕 Or maybe he’s running his eye over the squad to see who ain’t worth keeping or more likely who might make him a bob or two come summer 🙄 . One things for sure it won’t be to judge how bad Pards tactics are as he clearly is never gonna dump himas he tows the party line admirably . 🙁

      (Quote)

  40. Mike has given his word that he will spend as little as possible this summer. I feel we can trust him on that. Harrumph!

      (Quote)

  41. Amazing stuff CC mate. No wonder Mike went out and hired him again! Now I see his cunning plan to undermine the club in case we were in danger of making it back into the Europa League.

      (Quote)

  42. Who will be Ruprecht SmallBerries assistant DoF? I’m hoping for a real comedian. We’ve had enough amateurs. Let’s get Steve Martin. He probably knows more about footy than Alan or Mike anyway.

      (Quote)

  43. Does anybody else’s daughter watch over their shoulder while they are blogging? And she says things like “that’s completely insane, you can’t say that on a blog dad!” Harrumph. Very off putting. As if I ever say anything weird or unusual?

      (Quote)

  44. Not that I don’t completely trust Mike SmallBerries to lead us to greatness beginning this summer. We will continue to move forward in a sideways or backwards direction! Huzzah!

      (Quote)

  45. I’m looking forward to a tremendous summer of stalling, whinging, and other bollocks from wor Alan. Are the rest of you just as excited?

Troy might not know where the reality train is going — but with Mike and Pardew at the controls it is likely on the way to oblivion ———and beyond 😀

      (Quote)

  47. I think the reality train is headed straight for us supporters sidekick mate! We had better get off the tracks. I plan to tie Alan and Mike on them instead if they don’t do the right thing this summer. 😆

      (Quote)

  48. I love Aussie’s determination not to face his past. 😛

Come come my friend Aussie. You would not have a word said against Mikey for years. 😛

You remember don’t you? You had so many hissy fits with me cos I used to predict mediocrity, that you hid behind the sofa for days constructing a Troy voodoo doll to stick needles in. 😛

God I love you Aussie. Every blog needs an Aussie. 😛

  50. To be fair, our results since new year are far from mediocre.
    It’s actually relegation form.
Pardew wants to “freshen things up” but the sad thing is he hasn’t got a clue how to do that.
He should start by looking at his own performances, but he is far to arrogant to do that.
Clueless dinosaur of a coach is getting found out more and more as every week goes by.
    Results so far in 2014:
    Played 13 won 4 drawn 1 lost 8 = 13 points
    goals scored 9
    conceded 23
This from a self titled “defensive coach”
    what a plum
