Game On! Southampton v Newcastle

Game On at St Mary's
Game On at St Mary’s
North travels South today as two teams from opposing ends of the country face each other at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon.

The difference in geographical location is however a complete opposite when you look at the close proximity of these two sides in the league table.

Realistically one of us is going to finish 8th and one of us is going to finish 9th. It’s just a matter of who finishes above the other and I get the feeling that the game this afternoon will have a rather large bearing on the answer to that particular question come the end of the season.

Later than I would have liked, but last night I did indeed publish a match preview which can be viewed here. It details a history of the fixture, news of injury concerns from both sides, some stats and some associated waffling so take a look if you haven’t already done so.

You all know the drill with regard to live TV transmission of kick-off at this time here in the UK so once again a lot of people will be looking for streams. The good news is that some overseas channels are showing the game so finding a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue. You can find links in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added in below as and when I can get to it but it shouldn’t be too much after 2pm although someone will always post it in the comments far quicker than my ageing hands can get around a keyboard.

Howay the lads!

Southampton: Artur Boruc, Calum Chambers, Jose Fonte, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw, Jack Cork, Steven Davis, James Ward-Prowse, Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez, Rickie Lambert

Subs: Paulo Gazzaniga, Morgan Schneiderlin, Gaston Ramírez, Guly do Prado, Jos Hooiveld, Harrison Reed, Sam Gallagher

Yeah fella. Since the new year?

    Dear me. 🙄

We had a **** squad prior to the new year but we sell our most influential player and lose Remy for many matches and you blame the manager. 🙄

You do make me laugh with your views. 😆

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t rate Pardew as a top manager, but any manager having to deal with the situation he has to face would do equally as ****. 😉

The only thing with Pardew, he puts up with it whereas, a man like Keegan wouldn’t.

Keegan knew if he stayed he would be in exactly the same position as Pardew. Being criticised by people like you who haven’t got the ability to be rational and understand the obvious situation. 😉

  2. The right thing to do would be for Mike to support the rebuilding of the club he is busy destroying again BB mate @591. We will need at least 5 or 6 top players. What will we get? Probably 2 young inexpensive players and a loan signing at best. How will we do next season? Mediocre to poor. What else is new with this idiot?

  3. Troy 😯 how dare you mention hissy fits! And to think I stood by you through all your tantrums and fizzies! I was your light in the darkness and this is how you repay me! 👿 FTSOAFA (for the sake of a frustrated Aussie)

      (Quote)

  4. @Aussie

Good Morgan my friend. Or is it later down under. ?

Aussie I’m a master at analysing hissy fits. You are a master at them. 😛

Anyway, enough of this hissy fit banter for now. Are wid me or agin me regarding the Pardew situation? Hmmm?

      (Quote)

  5. Guten Tag, Troy 😉
Troy you are the master of chucking hissy fits! I loved the KK is really my brother B&B so I will stay off the blog hissy fit you threw! And he wasn’t even your bro!! Classic Stavers that was! 😛 😆

Regarding Pardew, I am numb to it all now to be honest… Like an unspecting leming heading toward a cliff, I look forward to each weekends game and hope we will win! I still love watching the lads play but it does get feckin hard to watch sometimes.

  6. Not sure manure will thump us, was a tough game for them and we’ll be fresh, I expect a win….. haha April fool……. Oh it was yesterday, sorry JFK moment

  7. agree with johno @ 391

maybe my hate of ashley blinds me towards wanting pardew out. but given the circumstances he’s done ok/average/garde C over his tenure

so im not jumping up and down wanting him out

plus MA is not gonna employ a good manager to all the dreamers out there

      (Quote)

  8. Anyone really seen the change in yanga, what the hell are the toon doing letting players go that way no wonder he’s playing ****,I cannot copy and paste on this tablet, but there photos of him onTHE MAG on the news now site,I was shocked

  9. Since Pardew took charge in 2010, we have suffered 7 Premier League Defeats by a 4 goal margin. Prior to that it was 5 in 16 years. (via NUFC Stats on Twitter).

A most damning statistic, anyone who thinks AP has any credibility left must be on something. We have had far worse players/squads/defences down the years than what we currently have. Ashleys dire mismanagement simply gives AP grounds to make excuses for his glaring inadequacies and failures.

  10. KIM thanks mate, ayewhats Ganning there??,keeping players fit and healthy you got to be joking 😕

  11. Yanga admits his favourite food is at Nandos. So much for the renowned French obsession with good food.

      (Quote)

  12. @aussie

Hahaha. 😆 to be fair, I did think KK was B&B for ages though KK is far more diplomatic, which kept throwing me. 😉

Hissy fit, no. I would be off like a shot if he turned up, only cos he’s still in the biggest hissy fit in the history of hissy fits and therefore I want nothing to do with him until he comes out of it. 😎

Getting back to the football. Your lack of passion and I’ve always referred to it as apathy cos you no longer feel the cut and thrust living on Tyneside is understandable. 😉

But, you are always welcome to keep your seat on the Reality Train which you’ve clearly claimed as your own anyway. 😛

      (Quote)

  13. @Georgio

The Reality Train is a one way ticket to Mediocre City and will be as long as the fat controller is in charge.

      (Quote)

  14. The reality train is heading to a big black hole where only big, fat tight bastards can survive.

      (Quote)

  15. Troy, when did I lose my passion for football!? Not even Harry Potter lives in a world with as much fantasy as you do! 🙂

      (Quote)

  16. Also in that link @621, Jabbas face is a picture, wonder what the score was at the point that pic was taken.

      (Quote)

  17. Anyone think Berahino is the sort of player we should be after ?? Young, pacey, decent finisher who can play anywhere across the front three

I expect us to be leading the chase for Zaha who man utd are allegedly touting for £5m. Pardews certainly a fan and would probably convince Ashley to go for that considering his age and potential. But Berahino would make more sense imho certainly better goal ratio

      (Quote)

  18. Kim

Yes thats why i brought it up, It looks unlikely the lad has a future with west brom regardless of which league they start next season in.

He was stupid not to take the ball into the corner but that still doesnt give that smog knacka morrison a right to punch a young kid.

      (Quote)

  19. Well I see Norwich have given there fans the money back for their shameful display away from home at the weekend, nice touch IMO,if the toon had done that for some of the shows they have put on this season they would be skint

      (Quote)

  20. CC, it’s too obvious and sensible a move to get in there quick for him knowing he may be unsettled , it won’t happen ,but yes I wouldn’t mind the lad at all.

Ice@628 ,yeah mate well done the Canaries, not a chance our lads following suit , anyway Mbiwa needs his money for all the greggs pies he’s putting away and Benny too for that matter 😉

      (Quote)

  21. CC – I’ve liked the look of Berahino what I’ve seen of him so far. But I think Campbell and Armstrong may be similar type forwards.
If Man U are ready to let Zaha go for as little as £5m though I’d snap their hands off for that – when you consider we gave them £3m for Squiddly!.

      (Quote)

  22. Sharpy ,that’s what worries me about Pards having a say in transfers -Obatan 🙄 Why are they willing to let Zaha go?

      (Quote)

  23. “That was a game where we had no process to win the game” says Alan. Who is responsible for setting up the team to play then? Is it not the manager Alan? You can say the players didn’t play well, which they didn’t, but to say there was no process to win the game puts the blame on you Mr. Pardew.

      (Quote)

  24. I’ll bet ManU are very worried about having to play us after a tough Champions League game. We can play Obertan and show them what a good buy he was! 😆

      (Quote)

  25. @TGS

Mark the butterfly jumped on the Reality Train before Aussie 😉

You’ll find the Expectation Express alongside Stardusts red Dream Bus, at Stanley’s scrap yard in Swalwell, waiting to be crushed! 😛

      (Quote)

  26. I’m not looking foward to Mr Pardew’s tactics on saturday. Sit back and defend for 90 minutes and if were lucky we might get a point or sneak it in the 90th minute.

Kim I hope we don’t get another Obertan.

      (Quote)

  27. I think we should be thinking more positively mates. Shouldn’t Mike be planning the parade route for next season when we win the FA cup? With all the fantastic players we have and a superb tactician such as Alan the cup is in the bag. Do I look worried about next season? Definitely not!

      (Quote)

  28. Obertan is one of the players Pardew is counting on most next season. Pace to burn down the wing. And Benny will either explode from eating too many sausage rolls or move on for a bigger wage. Remy? He’s going to waste his time at some Champs League club or other. Jonas is going to apply for his pension and put his feet up. Shola? Why he’s still in his prime. He’s got another 5 years with us at least. We’re looking good Alan. Relax with Ashley and do nothing in the summer. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  29. I’m excited by the thought of Alan’s new 5-5 formation on Saturday. He loves, positive, attacking football. Remember lads, hoof it whenever necessary. Shola will chase it down.

      (Quote)

  30. Kim – I don’t think Moyes likes Zaha. He doesn’t fit his style of play, plus he has quite a few wide men. There was also a rumour that Zaha was banging Moyes daughter 😛
Didn’t Bruce get rid of Bent coz he was getting busy with his daughter when they had nee replacement striker.

Zaha is miles better than Obertan IMO and £5m would be fair price I think.

      (Quote)

  31. Kimmy@572, I would have been well chuffed, and have even got a trip lined up with the other toon lads in Germany, but I fear I’ll be elsewhere and won’t get to the game. From well chuffed, to well peeved 🙁

      (Quote)

  32. Same ****, different transfer window. We’ll hear all kinds of stories of us chasing international players who have absolutely NO INTENTION of coming to the toon. But we’ll read about it week in week out. We will sign players, but they will be the best of the rest, on the cheap, and players no-one has heard of.
Every EPL club will receive 60 million quid this season, do wor lot think they are the only ones looking to strengthen their side ? Absolute knackers. Maybe there is just too much money about, with a dearth of available talent ?

      (Quote)

  33. Does anybody fancy a few weeks on the yacht this summer with Mike and Alan? A lot of planning (drinking) will be done. A lot of strategy (more drinking) will be discussed. Charnley and Carr will come on board for lunch (and some more drinking). By the end of the summer we will be fully rebuilt for the coming season. No really mates. Trust Mike and Alan. Have they ever failed us?

      (Quote)

  34. G2 Man Ure gave FC Bayern a real tough game in midweek, they’ll have way too much for us I’m afraid.

      (Quote)

  35. Kim – there was a loose rumour that we were interested in Danny Welbeck afew weeks back as well – I’d have him at the toon as well to be honest.

      (Quote)

  36. No Munich mate, that’s the beauty of it. The ManU players will be exhausted. We will be at our peak! We will dazzle them with hoof ball tactics. Shola will chase, De Jong will terrorize their keeper with his pulverizing shots. Obertan will bring them pizza at half time. They will be stuffed and sleepy. We will crush them. Beautiful. 😀

      (Quote)

  37. That was a shocker with Bayern Munich mate. They completely dominated and were good on the ball. ManU defended desperately and got a good goal from Vidic. It will be a different story in Germany however.

      (Quote)

  38. I’m watching the Madrid v Dortmund game and PEA has looked pish to me like. He wouldn’t get close to Remy for me.

Munich – have you seen much of PEA in the Bundesliga this season mate?

      (Quote)

  39. Sharples, PEA blows hot and cold in the Bundesliga mate. In all honesty, from what I’ve seen of him, I reckon he is a top player in the Bundesliga, in a good side, but would struggle in the EPL. For 18 mill, or whatever it was, he aint the finished object. A canny player, with pace to burn, don’t get me wrong, but the way in which the majority of EPL games are played, they just wouldn’t suit is style. His strength is his pace and running into the space behind defenders. He’s not a great dribbler or owt, but can really finish quite well. A bit too light weight for the EPL though imo…

      (Quote)

  40. Cant believe the latest, total and utter tripe, spewing from Pardumps gob.
Holy **** man, what the fecking hell.
Seriously, does the fool not listen to himself. Does he think we are all fucking stupid idiots or something.
He has come out with plenty guff before, but this really takes the biscuit.
“We’re a lot, lot better than we showed.” “It was our commitment to winning the game that worried me a little bit.”
ffs there wasn’t even any commitment to playing the game let alone winning it.
I’m glad it only worried him “a little bit” too.
“That was a game where we looked like we had no process to win the game.” “We need to know – clearly – what our process is.”
No **** Sherlock, you don’t say.
Plus, wtf does he mean. The fool talks in riddles.
“That should shock us into doing a performance against Man United that makes it very difficult for them.” – Yeah righty ho then.
So to summarise, playing **** football, with no commitment or process in place to win a game, will result in manure quaking in their boots, at the very thought of playing us.
    Baloney 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  41. G2@647, I’m looking forward to FC Bayern battering Man Ure in Germany, but I fear that Schweini and Alcantar missing from the Bayern midfield could be a big miss. I though Pep blew it yesterday, there is no way he should have started with Müller instead of Mandzukic, he would have battered the ageing Man Utd centre halves… Big **** by Pep…

      (Quote)

  42. Sharpy-he may not be as good as Remy but would you not fancy him over Shola and Cisse? 😆 He’s still fairly young, he did look poor tonight but then so did most of Dortmunds lot, they seem to have lost a lot of confidence since that CL final loss to bayern.

      (Quote)

  43. BB@651…Pardew speak with Forked Tongue. He always has and always will. He’s so far up his own **** it’s unbelievable. The bloke is unbelievable.. 🙄

      (Quote)

  44. Munich-Yeah no Mandzukic shocked me like, I really like him as a player.

I bet the Bayern board will be in fits soon, sign Lewandowski on good money only for pep to leave him on the bench because he doesn’t like playing strikers 😆

      (Quote)

  45. Newkie@653, Dortmund have so many players injured mate. Take Lewandowski, Gundogan, Schmelzer, Subotic, Bender and Błaszczykowski out of the team, then anyone would struggle. Plus they lost Götze to FC Bayern, so the bubble has burst somewhat…

      (Quote)

  46. Newkie, I reckon Mandzukic might leave mate. Lewandowski is brilliant, and Müller is in there too… FC Bayern need both, but it’s a question as to whether he will hang about…

      (Quote)

  47. Munich – thanks mate. Yeah I think he’d struggle in the EPL and it was have rocked his confidence badly. I certainly don’t think he’d have been a major success in our team with all of our sideways and back passes.

Newkie – a fucking garden pea would do better than Cisse or Shola this season mate. I also question how close we actually were to spending £18m or whatever it was on the lad anyway.

      (Quote)

  48. we werent shocked after getting stuffed off Everton. Why didnt we show more commitment after that poor performance.

He’s lost the players I reckon. Some players that could do well for us will want out and that means a massive overhaul in the Summer.. which aint going to happen.

    Pardew out Paul Jewel in!

      (Quote)

  49. Munich, I thought you’d rather Toon didn’t come over given the way we been performing, especially if we don’t sign anyone of quality for up front like 😉
Got to agree on all the transfer rumour **** though, it’s defo gonna go into overdrive it always does and we know how it ends 🙄 So I’m choosing to take it all with a big dose of salt.

Sharpy, Yeah I did hear that rumour about Zaha, don’t know if it’s true though. All the same he looked a good buy, wonder what Moyes doesn’t rate in him if it’s not true about the rumour then. 😕

      (Quote)

  50. I thought Pardew made sense without berating his team to a national audience.

    He’s diplomatic.

      (Quote)

  51. He’s lost the players. 😯

Whether he’s lost them or 100% with him, they aren’t good enough and therefore the results will remain *****.

But it’s Pardews fault despite the fact he didn’t want sell Cabaye and would love another striker.

    Dear me. 😯

      (Quote)

  52. Troy @661 , Really, your joking right, it was a pile of **** what he was coming out with there imo. He’s lost it ,that’s if he ever had it 🙄

      (Quote)

  53. Troy, we can dress things up however we like, but in 3 seasons we’ve seen maybe only 6 – 8 really good performances from Pardew’s teams, where we may have GENUINELY won the game as the best team. The rest of the games have been relatively dross, no matter how well Pardew may talk the games up.

      (Quote)

  54. Icedog@666, they’re taking the pinkle mate. Don’t give them a bite mukka. 😉

      (Quote)

  55. Kim – Moyes has never really player with wide midfielders when you look at his Everton side. He prefers the width to come from the fullbacks and have more centre midfield players.
He’s kinda tried doing it a Man U with Valencia as a wing back type player or Rafeal on the right and Evra or Buttner on the left.
I think he just doesn’t see Zaha fitting in what he want to do there to be honest. Like I say, I’d happily take Welback as well meself.

    Paul fucking Jewel????!!!!! 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  56. Reading the blog is like grabbing a handful of grapes thinking they are seedless but after the first bite, crunch, crunch crunch, you swallow the juicy flesh and have a mouthful of bitter pips that you have to spit out and the remainder get lodged in between your teeth and irritate you for about an hour til you’ve pick the last one out. 🙄

      (Quote)

  57. Munich-Aye true enough, and piszczek was out for a while wasn’t he? If you ask me when Bayern lose their Poles they are only half the side. Although that may be some of my bias ancestry showing it’s head 🙂

Yeah you’d have to think if Lew is coming and Mandzukic isn’t already a guaranteed name on the team sheet his chances will be numbered. You reckon he’d hang around the bundesliga? Could do a job for lots of teams around europe for sure.

    Sharpy 😆 😆
Yeah me too, it seems to be one of those “oh dortmund are interested, let’s throw a late bid in to show we’ve done something” etc etc.

If we were serious we would have gone in for him earlier. I mean how fucking long has Carr been in France by now?…Just sayin, he should be pretty fucking familiar with at least two of their leagues by now.

      (Quote)

  58. But, I keep coming back cos there’s nowt better than spitting pips out all owa the place! 😛

      (Quote)

  59. Troy ,If he didn’t want Cabs gone he should of put his foot down with both player and owner. The fact he didn’t /doesn’t ever stand up to Jabba tells me he’s a weak guy happy to tow the party line, he hasn’t the character to be a true winner . Hell he can’t even get them motivated to beat our biggest rivals for gods sake.

Buddy posted this earlier ,Since Pardew took charge in 2010, we have suffered 7 Premier League Defeats by a 4 goal margin. Prior to that it was 5 in 16 years. (via NUFC Stats on Twitter). says it all really.
