Game On! Stoke v Newcastle

Game On at The Britannia Stadium.
Game On at The Britannia Stadium.
Good afternoon all and welcome to what is likely to be the next defeat that will leave myself, and everyone else, annoyed and angry.

Sorry to start things off on a sour note but at the end of the day I’m not feeling too grand about Newcastle at the moment.

Outsiders looking in will see us sitting in the top half and wonder what all the fuss is about, but we know it could be different. A lack of even trying to better ourselves doesn’t sit well with me and wit results nosediving there is very little in the way of positive feeling for Alan Pardew – currently banned from the dugout following his nuttiness at Hull – to cling to.

But still we have just a few games remaining in what has turned out to be an unremarkable season that threatened to promise so much yet has delivered so little in terms of enjoyment, but we’ve backed the lads all the way through so we should probably carry on doing just that before we pack everything away for summer.

There is no live TV broadcast here in the UK so once again we are relying upon streams to watch the game. Some overseas channels are showing the game so hopefully there’ll be a few knocking about. Have a look in the ‘comments’ below and you’ll usually find a few links. Team news will be featured below in full as and when it becomes available.

Stoke are going to want to give us one back after beating them 5-1 earlier on in the season. in truth it was a scoreline made up by the referee and neglects the fact that we were once again poor and were in fact losing until Stoke had a man sent off and gave us that helping hand. As for United, avoiding defeat after recent weeks would be a start. Actually, putting some effort in might ultimately be a start.

Howay the lads!

  1. No Troy I just tune in for 5 mins 🙄
If he is constantly overlooked I’m not surprised he seeks solace in a big pile of greggs pasties 😀

  2. @troy

I didn’t mention Marks post because it was paper talk.

You should remember that Mourinho complained about not having any decent strikers & suggested Eto was older than he claims to be – didn’t you see Eto’s goal celebration?

As i’ve said already, there are not many people in the world that have the power to dictate terms to a Russian Oligarch. Putin is one of them but Jose Mourinho with his antics, that’s just silly. 🙄

Chelsea are small change to Roman & he can buy a better manager anytime.

As for Marveaux being average & not disciplined, i suppose the same should be said about Tevez & Mascherano.

Only bad players get frozen out by the manager, right? Come to think of it Shearer lacked discipline & was average so it was only fair to drop him too, no?

If Cabaye had more influence in the dressing room then what does that say about Pardew. Perhaps we should do away with Pardew & give Cabaye a part time managerial role?

    Re Kinnear
Kinnear has achieved more than Pardew. If you’re happy with Pardew you’d be happier with Kinnear.

You’ve been too easy today Troy. I’ve wiped the floor with you & i feel bad because i quite like you.

Not to bad though as i’m sure you aussie friends will turn up

  3. Coutinho wouldn’t even make the bench for us under Pardew.

Sturridge would be a left back.

I still can’t think of the 10 senior players we had missing. Was that including Marveaux or not?

    Obertan?

Does Pardew even know his squad??

      (Quote)

  4. I agree that Benny has put on weight.
Its understandable, because he is clearly comfort eating, due to not being happy with his lot right now.
He is not happy because of Pardew, the ***** training sessions, the **** poor game plans and match tactics. He has man’d up and told Pardew what he thinks and why. Pardews answer is to tell him to find another club.
Classic deluded pig ignorant response. Nobody can tell Pardoom anything.
So basically Benny has given up.
He’s not the only one either. That’s obvious.
Pardew is losing the players one by one.
Now he is losing the fans.
But it’s not his fault, it’s all the local media to blame. 👿

I’ve never had it so good. It’s almost as if I’m educating many on here, including you, all for no fee. 😛

I’m going to see my agent about this. Anyone seen him? Toonsy where are you? 😯

  6. Toon skipper shocks colleagues by blowing his top after defeat at Stoke that makes it 11 defeats in their last 16 league matches

It’d make your hair curl! Coloccini gave his team and his boss both barrels at Stoke
Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini let rip in a dressing room rant – with boss Alan Pardew coming in for most of the stick.

Centre-half Coloccini was furious after Saturday’s defeat at Stoke, adding to the woes for the Toon in the past few weeks.

And the Argentinian let his feelings flood out with a tirade against the way the team, who have lost four games on the spin and 11 of their last 16 league matches, is playing – and how Pardew is managing.

Coloccini shocked team-mates with his blast, but he is the second Newcastle player to have words with the Magpies’ manager – still banned from the touchline after headbutting Hull’s David Meyler – in the last week.

Hatem Ben Arfa erupted at Pardew in the previous game – a 4-0 home loss to Manchester United – and was left on the bench at the Britannia.

Ben Arfa’s verbal attack is pushing him even further out of the door but Coloccini is a key and popular player, despite repeated links with a transfer home to Argentina, making the situation hard for Pardew.

  7. By now you all know Ashley never employs anybody who has the relevant skills or credentials for positions of power at the club.
They came out and said in an earlier statement that they would always look to promote from within.

If Ashley was to dispense with the services of Pardew then wouldn’t he just jump up another lackey?
The biggest qualification Ashley likes in his minions is the ability to lick spittal, So wouldn’t “Peter Smell The Glove Beardsley” not fit the criteria?

He would fawn and lackey as much as Pardew has and could be a modern day “Willie Mcfaul”.
Pardew always starts his interviews with “Ah Fowt We Woz” while Peter could just take over from that with his “Obviously Delighted” or “Obviously Not Delighted”.

He would come cheap and be another “Front Of House” man for Ashley and wouldn’t complain when the team is sold from under him.
It would also appeal to Ashley’s manipulative nature in flouting another Geordie legend in the face of your average “Sky Sports Special” fan with their three teeth.
It may also keep a few of the dim witted of the fan base from supposedly throwing in their season tickets!

      (Quote)

  8. Ashley is that daft i wouldn’t put it past him to see Gazza swigging a bottle of Vodka on the touchline and enticing plays to the club with chicken sandwhiches, Fower cans and a fishing rod!

      (Quote)

  9. The fact pardew relies on cabaye and Remy to get us wins says it all. No plan b. Hes ruined a few players in his time here. Any one that puts 3 defenders on the bench. Plays a striker on the wing, drops a centre half who is playing well. Plays defensive tactics and makes subs after 70 minutes i.e ben arfa and expects him to get us out of the ****, plays shola ameobi…… Is mental.

i could have gone on all day.

      (Quote)

  10. The logic of many on here is questionable to the point of unquestionable.

I don’t need to question your rationale. There isn’t any. 😛

I’m sure you will get your wish sooner rather than lately.

I’m confident I will be hearing the same criticisms of the next manager within a short period of time.

Pards has done well with the **** squad he has. Shame you can’t see it. 😉

      (Quote)

  11. You’re probably right, Troy about the next manager but what have we got to lose at this stage? He’s losing the confidence of everyone who is important to the club – surely we have nothing to lose then?

      (Quote)

  12. If it’s true that Colo has started to question Pards now as well perhaps people can stop sniping at Benny for doing the same thing. I now have renewed respect for Colo if reports are true that he gave Pac-man both barrels in the dressing room .

      (Quote)

  13. @Stuart

The owner should back him. Buy him players that are required. He has done very well when he has his strongest teams out. Beyond that there is nothing.

Maybe try that and the fans would see an improvement.

The same happened with SBR. He was starved of cash for 18 months and we failed to qualify for the CL.
The fans slated him as being useless.

I didn’t. I knew fat freddy would go for someone like Souness.

But, if you can’t see it, then there’s not much I can do but try and point you all in the right direction.

Bobby was sacked when we were 5th with 5 games into the season because of clueless fans.

Bear in mind, a vast majority of these bloggers tried to tell me Ashley was great. I predicted all this.

      (Quote)

  14. Troy – You more than most know the owner isn’t going to back him, so that argument isn’t really worthy.

For this reason we might as well replace him and have something new. Same problems different face. Might as well.

      (Quote)

  15. Wow, Troy has done a Pardew and has lost the blog dressing room! He used to have the backing of the good bloggers but now they’re turning against him! Toonsy won’t sack him tho, he is Toonsy s puppet and grovels like mad every time he gets in trouble! 🙂

      (Quote)

  16. RUMOUR ALERT:

Apparantly the reason that Ashley has been at the matches lately and has joined the board is because he intends to put a decent amount of money into the club in the summer – he has put himself in a position where he can influence how and where it is spend. He has not had much to do with the transfers in the past which is why he and Charnley are working closely together. Believable?

Here’s part 2 though. He initially intended to back Pardew – however what he’s seen recently on the pitch, the problems in the dressing room and the banners saying Pardew out has caused him to rethink.
I have heard that he is looking into either Sean Dyche of Burnley or Eddie Howe at Bouremouth.

This is off the back of Pardew submitting his plans for summer transfers. Ashley has looked at the number of players that Pardew want out and the cost and is weighing up whether a different manager could do better – thus saving him money on player replacement.

  17. Sharpy, nice rumour but please don’t fill the natives with false hope… the place will go into meltdown mode! 🙂

      (Quote)

  18. Makes sense there has be something in him suddenly taking such an interest. I understand him coming to watch the odd match but why take a seat on the board, Must have something in mind.

P.S. Eddie Howes a tremendous young manager but he left Burnley to go back down south for family reasons, Cant see him coming 200 miles further north as much as i reckong hed be a very good fit. His achievements at bournemouth with a transfer embargo were remarkable.

      (Quote)

  19. I don’t know enough about Eddie.

I take it he is twice the manager but is?

I’d rather we went with a known unknown rather than a known known liie Pardew.

It might happen. 200 mile trip is around an hour and a half in Ashleys chopper.

      (Quote)

  20. You know watching the match at Stoke I suddenly realised I was finding our attempts at play very comical. Like Basil Fawlty was the manager. Wrong players, wrong formation, wrong tactics and then after the game wrong excuses. Can Pardew actually be as thick as he looks these days/ Is he that bad that Basil would be better? 😆

      (Quote)

  21. I sure am glad we have the bastion of morality, cap cap’n Colo on Pardew’s case. Not that he’s been itching for the move for the best part of two years now and would be glad to make a barton-esque escape from his contract now would he…and that is assuming the story is even true!

Has Uwe Rosler’s name been doing the rounds anywhere? He seems a realistic flavour of the month choice to me

      (Quote)

  22. Newkie , there is no smoke without fire , also too many media outlets running with that story for it to be totally unfounded imo.

      (Quote)

  23. Newkie – why would Rosler want to leave a decent club to come here? It’ll have to be someone unemployed I think. I just hope the anti Pardew chants on Sat don’t descend into anti Ashley chants. One thing at a time . . . If we don’t get someone decent in soon then no one decent will sign for us anyway. What a bloody shambles.

      (Quote)

  24. Kim-aye it’s certainly possible, but as I said, not entirely convinced Colo’s motives are altruistic.

Georgio-I don’t know mate, I’m thinking pity might be the likeliest reason 😆 . Agree tho, Ash has a chance (how many times have we said this now?) to put one of his many wrongs (Appointing pardew in the first place) right – however as with the rest I am really not anticipating good news.

Ba scored again on the weekend, showing when he’s actually given more than 10 minutes on the pitch he can do his job. It’s been downhill ever since he left us really hasn’t it. He and to an extent Remy are the clinicial finishers that Pardew’s teams need in order for his other 10 men workhorse routine to work. We weren’t wonderful but we looked alright and could definitely get results with them in. Take them out and nobody has a clue.

      (Quote)

  25. Has Pardew been backed by Ashley?, Well he has definitely been barebacked on occasion!

      (Quote)

  26. Newkie – the problem is when Ashley calls the shots we get Pardew/Kinnear/Wise/Wonga/Llambias/Charnley. Surely he can find someone he’s heard of to recommend a manager for him. Carr?

      (Quote)

  27. Newkie ,agree for too long Pards has relied on Ba and now Remy, one is gone and the other soon to be. Truth is goals should be coming from many players not just one or two, this needs addressing in the window and I’m sorry but 1 or 2 won’t cut the mustard . We need 2 or 3 forwards to replace Remy ,Ba, and Shola , then we need a CB and a creative atmf and a decent winger too imo , so at least 6 players of which 5 need to be first team quality with proven ability. We need to lose Shola, Obertan , Saylor ( too injury prone now ) Gosling is off anyway, let Benny ,Marv and Cisse go if Pards is staying as he simply hasn’t a clue how to get the best out of them. I would consider selling Santon too as I’m far from convinced in his ability and we have Haidara and Dummett. We could also do with another decent RB for when Debs is injured /suspended or likely sold 🙄
Sissoko is not a winger so not sure if we should even be keeping him either if he’s not going to play him in his rightful position . Pards obviously likes a certain type of player ( Defensive players ), he can bleat all he likes about being attack minded, but he is not fooling anyone on that score, no goals in god knows how long tells it’s own story, even with Remy we didn’t have high scoring games ,Stoke apart who were down to 9 men . Maybe we need to be looking at bringing in more Brits I don’t know , it’s a crying shame when you have such skillful players played out of position or not played at all or told to defend when they could do so much more damage attacking.

      (Quote)

  28. Please tell me No-nuts has sacked Pardew ?
I’m very disappointed in recent results and most of all the constant excuses that comes out of his lying mouth!

This isn’t even funny how come this cat has 100s lifes

      (Quote)

  29. Aussie/Stu – I am simply passing the information on.

Though I agree with CC in that Ashleys movements recently would suggest that there are things going on behind the scenes.

I personally think Dyche and Howe are very decent at the level they are at right now – are they good enough to make the step up to PL?!.
Maybe they are, but it’s a gamble. But I think any manager we get will be a gamble coz I don’t see Ashley employing an established manager.

      (Quote)

  30. @Stuart

Change for changing sake. ? Just so it will be different.

And he appoints Kinnear? That would be different. But if you want to take that risk then it’s your call cos I bet you couldn’t confidently state that he wouldn’t appoint him.

We all want something different but having seen all his appointments, there’s nothing to suggest he will improve things.

Yes I want change but I want it for the better, not for changing sake.

    @Aussie

I’ve been here before. Back against the ropes. Hands up but parrying the low blows comfortably. This is sparring to me. I’m waiting for a real fighter to appear. Do you know any cos I haven’t met one on this blog yet.

These are the same crew who tried to throw Ashley blows at me years ago but I parried those off as well.

They jumped in my corner when they realised I was right after all. Just like they will when they get another **** manager in charge.

I’m warning them now. Ashley won’t appoint anyone you are happy with.

      (Quote)

  31. Sharpy, I was kinda hoping that he had taken a seat on the board in order to start the process of winding up his time as owner ready to sell end of next season so as to then buy Rangers tbh. Thought he might start overseeing the sell of Debs ,Krul ,Santon, Benny and Marv to recoup some of themoney on his debt prior to selling for a smaller sum. I would reluctantly take that scenario if it meant getting shot, we’d just have to hope the young ones can step up to the plate, lets face it if things don’t alter soon we are down next season anyway and I think he knows it.

      (Quote)

  32. Troy – I doubt very much he would appoint Kinnear. One because his ticker wouldn’t last and two because he doesn’t actually want us to be relegated.

If Mike Ashley said to me I will sack Pardew but I will appoint Kinnear I would say lets stick with Alan but he isn’t going to do that. That’s a pretty big assumption to make.

But lets be honest, nobody really knows what Ashley would do, but I know a new manager will be the only bit of excitement supporters will get in the next year or so.

      (Quote)

  33. Georgio-I’ve said for a while now that if Carr has been in France all this time surely he will know the managers in and out as well as the players- if we are sticking with French imports then a manager from over there may solve the problem, but you would think he would have a few suggestions.

Kim-yep exactly. I think we can/used to be able to still get goals from elsewhere, but they only seem to come when the “main man” is playing, whether that’s because defenders become preoccupied with him and that opens up extra space, or whether the team are just more adventurous and confident because they have a natural goalscorer in the team I don’t know. It’s going to be a mix of things really. I agree about also needing several new players-to cover those going out and to push on (or even keep the pace with every other side that will spend-Leicester are money bags so that’s another one to add to the list.

But Charnley has stated we will be getting one or two players..and with about 5 potentially leaving us that doesn’t bode well at all. 😐

      (Quote)

  34. Pretty sure whom ever came in they wouldn’t leave creative players out or on bench when they have the ability to win us games . 2 play Shola, 3. play players out of position ,4. blame everyone and everything but themselves when it goes pear shaped, 5 would have a plan b and c when A fails, 6 Wouldn’t make odd subs like taking off the best player 😕
6 good reasons to change manager.

  38. Greetings to all my mates out there. Welcome to Blog End, home of your very own Official Blog Hobbit. What is on tap for today you ask? Well all sorts I would say. So put your hairy feet up and join in everyone. We have much to discuss. How to punish various members of the Newcastle United management? Is there a better name for our beloved owner than Mike NoNuts? How bad is Pardew as a manager? Are any of the coaches worth keeping? Has a cure for nutticus shrivelous been developed yet? All this and more. Please stay tuned. 😆

      (Quote)

  39. I would think it is impossible to get a proper insight into the club with NoNuts in charge. You all know what happens. He has a bunker mentality. Everyone is out to get him for no good reason. Did people see how our spending rated for the last two windows on transfers. In a completely equal world each of the 20 Prem clubs would spend 5% of the total transfer costs. That won’t happen because there are rich and poor clubs. But guess what we spent? About 0.26% of the total! Unbelievable when you look at the club income. And a recipe for disaster as usual. The owner is criminally incompetent in the football world. He is destroying the club. Speak out against him and don’t go to games.

      (Quote)

  40. The one piece of good news from the weekend, is that at least Tiote didn’t pick up his 10th yellow of the season and get a 2 match ban.
Now he will be safe until the end of the season as the cut off point for 10 was sunday.
All he needs now is for Pardoom to give him the captaincy permanently. 😉

Gus Poyet: “I think there’s something wrong in the football club and it’s not an excuse. I need to find that.
    “If I don’t find it, we’ve got a problem.
“I think I know what it is but no, I don’t. You know, you think. It’s too many times, too many things.
“I always say to myself ‘What happened with Brucie in the second year?’, ‘What happened with Martin O’Neill?’, ‘What happened with Di Canio?’ and what happens with me now?
“I don’t want to get away from the responsibility because I said on Monday night I am responsible. I am the first one.
“But who is going to be next? A, B, C – you can call him anything and the club will be in the same situation. I don’t like it, it’s not me. I need to find the solution and whatever it is, I need to put it there.
“I said too many times I cannot promise I will get this club safe because it would be silly.
“I think this team needs an electric shock.
“When last year, Paolo Di Canio got here, it was a shock. When I got here, we had a shock – we beat Newcastle and Man City and it was a big impact and a change of philosophy and way of working.
“Then we were so-so and we had a couple of results in December because Marcos (Alonso) was already with us and there were new players coming and the cup was another shock that put us in a great situation.
“As soon as we didn’t play anymore for that, it’s back to basics. It’s back to whatever you do, there is an own goal, whatever you do there is a sending off.
“What is going to happen to us that is new on Wednesday? We can have a bet.
“What is going to happen on Wednesday?
“I don’t want to rebuild. I didn’t come to Sunderland to rebuild nothing, I want to be part of a process and to be something that gets better all the time.”

  45. In my opinion the entire club needs a turnover. But it must be done after the owner goes. He hides behind a manager with an 8 year contract. There seems to be no consequences for Pardew’s overall poor behavior, poor tactics and lack of leadership. These players have all played well previously but they look desperately poor now. Blame starts at the top but there is plenty to go down to the lower levels of management and coaching.
