Game On! Aston Villa v Newcastle

Game On at Villa Park
Game On at Villa Park
Game number two of our Premier League season will soon kick-off as we head to Villa Park in search of our first points of the season.

It sounds a bit dramatic saying that, this being only our second match of the campaign, but it will soon pass by and we’ll be at Christmas before you know it. Perish the thought…

All 2,800 seats in the away end at Villa Park have been sold at a ground where certainly the fans at the very least give a good account of the club. And in fairness they’ve been richly rewarded since enduring the taunts of the Villa fans in the immediate aftermath of our relegation with victories on our last two visits preceded by a draw and just the solitary one-goal defeat in our first season back in the Premier League.

That’s all in the past though. Today is a new day and all that. Something else that is new is half of our team to be fair which brings it’s own pressure. Alan Pardew had an excuse last season, that being that we were down to the bare bones towards the end of the campaign, but now there isn’t one. Pardew has seen his side strengthened so excuses are now in short supply, as is patience amongst fans for a manager who the majority feel should have been disposed of last season.

Anyway, enough waffle. There is a match to concentrate on. If you feel you need some more build up to the game then please feel free to head over to my match preview and fill up on injury news, early team news, stats and facts with a history of the fixture thrown in for good measure.

With regards to viewing the match, an early kick-off here in the UK means that the game is being broadcast live on these shores courtesy of BT Sport. That combined with a host of overseas channels offering broadcast should mean that streams will be available. If you do find a good’un then please leave a link to it in the comments section below. Team news will be posted below in full as and when it becomes available.

Oh before I go, an update on what is happening with this place. Basically, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I can’t write as many articles as I once could. I work odd hours, long hours and have a family who want my time aswell. It wasn’t a problem before as there was a team of writers but as those have gone to Uni or had other things take up their spare time it’s left me as he lone regular contributor to the site.

I’ve always welcomed guest posts, and some of you have been kind enough to send articles in which is really greatly appreciated and is always welcome, but I’m also looking for regular contributors/administrators to help me run the site and keep content fresh. If anyone is interested then please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Howay the lads!

  1. I must say Barfa looked really trim yesterday. Hopefully Pardew brings him back into the fold. We certainly need more offensive creative players.

I’m not sure he’ll break into the dynamic midfield of Colback, Tiote, Anita and Sissoko. With a attacking midfield like that we probably need another Amady Faye to protect the defence

  2. Sorry Kim, lost internet. Thought that would be the case.
Cant listen to bbc Newcastle online for matches, it says that I’m not in eligible, whatever that means.

  3. Andy lad I thought you were at Uni, learning the meaning of long words like “eligible” and the like 🙂

  4. There can be little doubt that we are approximately as good as Gillingham. I’m sure Pards is relieved.

  5. I read today that Pardew and Ashley have no interest in the cups and hes just saying what other Chairman and managers are thinking.

Or is that just an excuse coz he’s **** and can’t get any further than the likes of Gillingham 😆

  9. Course not Troy. You know we are spreading the goals round thoughout the team. In this case we even got the opposition to score it for us.

  14. You can’t help but laugh that we still haven’t scored a goal in three games.

At least Obertan is saying “**** you” to Pardew and making it awkward for them to force him out of the club now. He’s taking his pre-season form into the real season.

  15. Kim up to now I haven’t seen Rivi look anything like scoring 😕 but I hope he does come as good as some think because we will need him.
Ice I am seriously thinking of getting one of them, I will email you the make of one that a local guy to me is selling to see if its the same.
I see just reading quickly through that the Troyster and Stu have been getting some abuse for not thinking the new players are all that 😀

  16. Funky – I know you like Oba and I’ve agreed with you when he’s played well but according to the radio he was largely ***** tonight, didn’t get into the box when he would have been completely free (instead forcing Riv to sprint half the pitch) and had a woeful touch when 1v1 to plonk the ball 20 yards ahead of him into the keepers arms.

Still, doesn’t sound like anyone pulled up any trees.

  17. I think manu should appoint Greame Souness as manager. Give him 100 million to spend at least. David Moyes was the wrong Jock to take fergies place.

  18. Newkie,

I didn’t keep up with the game but apparently he has the assist on the own goal so he did more than anyone else in the team. He could have been epic ***** but still better than the others. I wonder how long this stigma of not scoring a goal of our own this season is going to hang over us. What does Pardew do to kill strikers at this club.

Cisse, Remy and Ba all started great but died off greatly before leaving (still stuck with Cisse), Gouffran is never played there and is still tired from last year, De Jong never scored, Riviere is drifting to the wing, Chucky has gone missing since he played in pre-season.

This is a guy who claims he manages strikers best and he made Darren Bent a world class player. What a ****.

      (Quote)

  19. Funky are you going to credit Oba with an assist even if it was an OG 😯

I guess it wont be long till Jabba’s chief PR man Aussie is on telling us how we’re taking the cups seriously and the win was what we deserved 😆 😆 and is a taste of the top quality footie to come this season 🙄

  20. DAVE nee bother mate, nobody can do the same as this firm mind I can tellyou that now mate, plus this guy updates them every week from his end,you ddon’t have time to keep frigging about up dating new films or sports channels, with this one you just click update and it does it itself simples

  21. No idea if it is an assist or not really, just used the term to describe his role in it.

Our attack needs help. It may not even be a new offensive signing but a new coach who has some idea what the hell he is doing.

  22. Dave , I stand by my prediction of 15th place and 45points, only Troy went lower than me at 16th. I’m starting to wonder if I was being a tad optimistic now.

      (Quote)

  23. Ice that sounds good me old bean.
FJ I agree our attack needs help but some on here seem to think we are good to go as there is goals all around the team, I tend to think differently but sure.

Kim I would say you won’t be far off with that

      (Quote)

  24. Kim I would have to agree with you. 45 points is very generous, considering we have a fairly new team that needs time to gel. I can’t help but blame Ashley for not getting a experienced striker.
