Sack Him?

Usually I’m not one for getting out the bed sheets and writing protest messages. In fact, if anything, I’m all for giving plenty of time and a good deal of leeway for owners, managers and players to make their mark.

Dead man walking?
Dead man walking?

I’m not the hysterical type that makes pronouncements of doom at the latest defeat or because we didn’t whoop the arses of Sydney and Wellington in pre-season games or because the owner doesn’t run the club the way I want him to. But there comes a point when change has to happen, and somewhere along the line you have to make your feelings known.
That time has come for me now.
I was quite prepared to give this current crop of guys half a dozen games to get their act together. I was quite prepared to see if Pardew could get something out of them. After four games of the current season I’ve lost much of my generosity of spirit.
There appears to be no change in the direction we were heading in at the end of last season. What was clear at the time was that we needed about half a dozen players, and in positions all over the park, and a new game plan. Instead we got some useful signings on paper, some replacements for exiting players and a baffling decision to weaken our very suspect defence. There was also some talk about a new style of play.
I’m still willing to give the players the benefit of the doubt, although the rash of mis-hit shots and air swings by players when in very good scoring positions casts a few doubts about their technique and value, and the link up play is too slow and laborious for the Premier League, and there’s far too much room given to opposition in midfield, and defending leaves so much to be desired that … oh what the hell …? Everything is all ****ed up and unbalanced. Everything.
The guy that has to take responsibility for the way the team plays is Pardew (and Mike Youknowwho, of course, but he’s not selling and is hardly likely to sack himself). We all know our record for this year, so there’s not much point in rehashing it, and we all know about the Pardew Out chants. For me, it’s this that needs to be addressed.
The fans want Pardew to go. Another bad performance v Hull and St James’ Park will become as toxic a site as it was in the relegation season (and didn’t that start against Hull as well?). That toxicity will spill down from the terraces and affect the players. That cannot be allowed to happen; they are already a bunch of question marks running around like headless chooks, they don’t need more pressure on them. Supporting the club is all about the team and anything that gets in the way of that needs to be addressed as quickly as possible.
I’m all for a new approach, a regeneration, a reboot, with new personnel in charge. I doubt this is the best time to get rid of the manager, but when is? I say better now than risk a drawn-out battle with the terraces. That can only lead to frustration and anger, and will most likely have a negative effect on the players. A new manager at least gives the players a chance to be born again.
For the sake of the team, Pardew must go.

  1. it has been said in the past that this so called 8 yr contract was really a rolling 8yr contract sept to sept,if that is a fact it would cost jabba nowt, would love to think it was true

  2. if its true that p45 has lost the dressing room, ashley has to sack him or we will be relegated.yesterday it looked to me that the players just couldnt be arsed to play.it needs sorting asap one way or the other.

  4. Hitman that was the final straw for me late last season. You can fix disorganization but once you start seeing a lack of effort and so many mental mistakes the manager has to go.

  5. Oh dear. I don’t see many points coming from Stoke and Swansea. I think they both gave us a battering last season.

  6. This is the sad thing Stu. Even when we play against the mid table teams I don’t believe there’s a realistic chance of victory.. In fact even when we play the worst 4-5 teams I expect a draw at best. Expectations and optimism driven into the ground by cold painful experience.

I’ve said from preseason that we are in for a relegation battle as I was shocked at how poor our squad is.

We haven’t even had many injuries yet. They are to come in abundance, I’m sure, when the winter chills hit and the Xmas programme.

I see no way back for Pards because of this and they only way will be for Ashley to spend a fortune in January.

I can’t see this situation continuing and a change of manager is essential now. Pards needs to go and a top manager appointed.

I do not see any point in appointing anyone unless they are a top manager. I don’t see any point in doing anything else as we are doomed.

A top manager might be able to claw us to 4th bottom.

I don’t believe for a second Ashley will do it so I see us doomed if he changes the manager or not.

  8. Troy – the big thing for me yesterday is that that is the worst I’ve seen us play defensively in a long time (I know we weren’t great in midfield or forward either like).
But from minute 1, the back pass from Colo had us in trouble. Then Krul takes Long out and it defo should have been a penalty. Then the first was total disorganization, and so simple from Saints point of view. The 2nd is shocking defending by both Willo and Colo. Pardew on SSN described these 2 goals as very good – really?!.
The 3rd is all down to Willo and god knows what Krul was doing?!.
The 4th was a good finish from what I remember of it, but by that time we had given up.

But how our back 5 are performing is very worrying for me. I’m not saying I want Pullis, but at both Stoke and Palace, he made them hard to beat first. I’m hoping any new manager that comes in, will at least make those sorts of changes and then make the best out of what he has to work with.

I could go on about your logic in relation to sacking Pardew. To me it makes little sense, particularly when you wanted him sacked a couple of years back when we were comfortable.

I will leave it at that unless you want to discuss it further.

Regarding you asking me whether I would stick with Pardew or not.
My previous post to Kim should explain my views.

I honestly see no point in changing for the managers he would consider.
We are doomed with Pards and the names you’ve suggested IMO.

He needs to offer a fortune to a top manager and spend a fortune in January to give him a chance.

That’s how desperate I believe our situation is. 😉

  10. So Shearer confirms on MOTD, what I’ve been saying throughout.

  14. I feel sorry for the next manager that works under this cheap skate. Ashley sales the clubs best assets and does absolutely **** all. Taking months of time putting in stupid bids and going for second rate players. These players need a certain period of adjustment and have no premier league experience. It makes me so angry at times! This idiot should stick to sports direct and nothing fucking else because he hasn’t got a clue about anything football wise.

  16. Another reason Ashley is just not cut out to be a football club owner is that he just doesn’t understand the game or supporters.

Ashley will let the situation simmer all week and then it will explode on Saturday, making such a shocking atmosphere that will effect the manager and the players. This is a game we should be winning and I doubt we will with Pardew in charge. If we lose this we will be right in the ***** as I really don’t fancy us getting anything from the next two after this, as well as being knocked out of the cup… Again! Before we know it we could have 2 points from 7 games and that is tough to claw back.

Ashley must grasp the nettle now as if he leaves it just one game more I believe we could be destined for relegation. 🙁

  17. Tory – you thick kernt.
Pardew has plenty of say on the players we have.
He is very happy with the way it is obviously, otherwise he would let his big mouth go at his bosses.
What does he have to lose by demanding the right players ?
He is hardly going to get sacked is he?
After all who would Fatty replace him with ?
Pardew is happy to be the fat bastids puppet and is happy with the players brought in.
Truth is, he is so far out of his depth, he doesn’t know what we need or what to do.
The best thing he could do is fall on his sword, but he doesn’t even know how to do that.
    Its too late now anyway.
I have been calling for his head for the last 2 seasons.
Now you finally agree with me. But its all too late. We are doomed now.
Everyone can see it except Pardew himself.

Deary me Tory, have I not been saying this for the last 2 yrs ❓
This was your own rant, and clearly shows you are agreeing with me.
Despite this, you have made yourself look even more ridiculous, by contradicting yourself.
You have constantly said Mash wont appoint a “top Manager”, you berate people who have called for change, because according to you, Pardew is the best we can get under Mash.
You insist Pardew is an average prem manager who will keep us mid table 😳
And now you are calling for a “top Manager” to get us to “4th bottom”
    Hillarious bafoonery from you Tory.
But you will keep having a go at others as you squirm around in your changing stance in defence of Pardew.

Again you’ve made a chump of yourself 😛

I’ve maintained my stance since you predicted Pards would be sacked two xmas’s ago and which you later acknowledged I was correct.

If you wish to scan this full thread and the last, I’ve repeatedly stated that I see no point in sacking Pards for another average manager, as the squad is so poor an average manager would have no chance of saving us.

I’ve stated, as I always have, I would sack Pards tomorrow for a top manager. But Ashley won’t do that and therefore we are doomed.

Totally different from what you’ve tried to do by misquoting my point of view.

You want change no matter what. I don’t.

But please show me why Shearer knows less than you 😛

I’ve just been listening to talksport this morning and alan
Brazil and his co presenter were saying, ” it’s well known Pardew has little say in who comes and goes at Newcastle”

I’ve just phoned Brazil and he’s howling at you. Bootsy who he said? 😛

  31. Pard’s has to go but Ashley also needs to get rid of the whole first team coaching muppets. I’ve no idea what they are coaching but I’ve seen no improvement in any player – in fact, mostly the opposite !
Well done Ashley for giving the lot if the muppets 8 year contracts

Steve Bruce apparantly toying with the idea of having HBA in the dugout for the game! As if the fans aren’t going to be bad enough , that’ll get them turning from the first minute – I fear a heavy defeat

      (Quote)

  32. @troy – agree that ultimately we’ll end up with a manager out of work or for whom very little compo is required.
However, the plus he would have is that the toxic atmosphere would be removed with the majority of fans at least willing to give the new guy a chance. Players might then not feel as much pressure and play a bit better , a win or two and confidence might grow a bit etc etc
Think its gone way too far for pard’s and carver to ever win the fans back

      (Quote)

  33. A win against Hull will take us to mid table. 😯

I can see why Ashley would strike just yet.

We won’t win though unless it’s lucky. Even teams that get relegated win the odd game here and there.

      (Quote)

  34. We can debate it until the cows come home but the truth is he won’t sack him at any point imo. He had the perfect chance after the headbutt last year but chose not to, that says it all for me. After they made such an issue of the whole stability of an 8 year deal, they won’t wanna make themselves look a bunch of idiots now by sacking him. I honestly think that even if he takes us down he’ll stay on in the hope he’ll bring us back up. Having watched some championship teams lately there is no chance of a bounce back ,there are some excellent sides there and importantly they are all scoring goals with even rock bottom Fulham scoring 3 so far ,as many as us to date. The top 10 Championship sides have scored between 6 and 13 goals to date, food for thought I’d say.

      (Quote)

  35. Tend to agree that if we go down, we’ll be down for a long time – this set of players do not have the fight for the championship
I imagine Sissoko , Krul etc will try to jump ship cone January if we’re near relegation spots

      (Quote)

  36. Pardew has obviously lost the fans. He’s right in saying that booing and chants doesn’t help the team (look at what happened to Blackburn), but he’s totally wrong to say it. I don’t agree with the chants before and during matches at all, I want to see the fans doing their part to boost the players to winning matches and entertaining us all, not cutting of all of noses to spite our faces. They’re helping to create a toxic atmosphere around the club that is already being contributed to by Ashley and Pardew (and previous muppets like JFK and Wise).

So…while I think those fans are misguided, you can’t sack them can you? It’s the manager’s job to be professional and making stupid comments like that won’t do any good at all. The chanting fans aren’t going to think, “Oh, that’s a jolly good point – I’m going to stop chanting “Pardew out!’ and sing to back the players instead.”

I felt he needed time to get the new players to gel…but unless we stuff Hull at the weekend AND get a very good performance, then I can’t see how he can last.

Getting thrashed by a rebuilt Saints team is bad enough, getting beaten at home by a ‘lesser’ team that we allowed HBA to join (because they’re no threat to us) would be suicide…

      (Quote)

  37. People should stop worrying about 8 year contracts. Creating negativity about something where you don’t know the details and haven’t even thought things through properly.

Mike Ashley is known for incentive based contracts, there were also rumours that Pardew is ‘only’ getting paid £500kpa. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if his basic is something like this and his contract is so tied up with clauses that he makes a fortune if he does well, he’s expensive to poach if he’d done really well but he’s not that cheap to sack.

Ashley might be a greedy, cold recluse, but he’s not an idiot when it comes to contracts (apart from KK’s) and business.

      (Quote)

  38. TDS 😯 I thought you didn’t believe rumours – ” Mike Ashley is known for incentive based contracts, there were also rumours that Pardew is ‘only’ getting paid £500kpa “.

Tut tut, you’ll be believing the press too soon 😉

  40. TDS – the players will get the fans support when they earn it mate. These players get paid alot of money to play football and the fans pay alot of money (in comparison) to go and watch them. It shouldn’t take a fan traveling from Newcastle to Southampton and sing the Blaydon Races for these players to play well. They were dreadful on Saturday mate, and weren’t worthy of the support of the fans IMO. To see Sissoko high fiving Forster and laughing on with him when we had just been embarrassed made me sick!. If Pardew or the players showed a bit of fighting spirit, or something to show they give a ****, then maybe the fans would get behind them.
Lets be right mate, it’s only the fans who are out of pocket come 5pm on Saturdays, so I think that gives them the right to react any way they see fit.

      (Quote)

  41. couldn’t help but notice that Pardew was glued to his seat on the weekend. no prancing around the technical area or barking orders….. He had the same look on his face as the last game at home last season.. One of a man that is way out of his depth with no way of finding a way out.. he has been found out and found wanting..

  42. “I have only been at Hull a couple of years and they have been really good. They gave me the chance to get up and running again and for that I will always be grateful.”

      (Quote)

  43. SHARPY

It doesn’t matter how much you get paid. When you’ve prepared with your manager all week and then you turn up to find the people you’re effectively playing for are calling for him to be sacked, how are they supposed to genuinely give 100%?

Let’s not kid ourselves by saying they get paid so much, they should give 100% every time, that’s just not real life, they are people like the rest of us.

It’s a vicious circle though. Fans boo, players get demoralised, fans boo more…seen it plenty of times before, only seems to be one result. The manager loses his job sooner or later. Preferably sooner before we get relegated…

      (Quote)

  44. Newkie – I thought that mate, particularly the last bit. Doesn’t it make more sense to just say ‘I am grateful’ – to say ‘I will always be grateful’ sounds strange to me.

Aussie – I noticed that too mate and that’s what I mean about them looking like they don’t give a ****. Nobody got annoyed on Saturday – or John Carver did but at the fans rather than the shower of ***** on the pitch!. The first 3 goals were terrible from our defence and yet nobody seemed to give a ****.
I hope Ashley watches MOTD coz week in week out they show Roman Abram watching Chelsea with a big daft smile on his boat …. That’s what it should be like for YOU Mike for fat knacker!!!.

      (Quote)

  45. TDS – “Let’s not kid ourselves by saying they get paid so much, they should give 100% every time”.

What?!. They absolutely should give 100% each time!!. **** pay – what about pride?.
Wheres the **** you attitude from any of them?!.

If they were giving 100% then fans might cheer, they may get behind them!.
You don’t need to train all week to show determination in being first to the ball, winning a tackle, running beyond your man, putting your body on the line in a block tackle, sticking your head in where it hurts.

Don’t forget mate, the home fans alone have only seen us win about twice in 2014 – and haven’t been graced with fantastic football to watch. The away fans (who spend considerably more), have been subjected to equal servings of **** poor football.
The fans need something to feed off and in 2014, they’ve been starved.

      (Quote)

  46. SHARPY

You keep arguing points I haven’t made mate. I don’t deny that the fans need something. Many of us are so wound up that we need a change just to try and stimulate some hope!

But take money out of the equation…these players don’t need to be here, most of them are not Geordies who love the club and they could easily get another club to take them. So when the atmosphere around the club is grim and fans are chanting against the manager rather than getting behind the team, are you shocked that they’re performing like they’d rather be elsewhere?

Pride? In every job I’ve done, I’ve put in 100% when I had the support of those around me. When I didn’t feel everyone was pulling in the same direction, I just wanted to leave and couldn’t be arsed to push myself in that job any more. Human nature surely?

Slow start to the season doesn’t warrant that as all it is doing is creating a negative vibe.

Having said this I thought they were a shower, all of them, on Saturday, they should be docked a weeks pay cause they didn’t earn it. 👿

I don’t think what Bruce said was odd at all by the way .

  51. TDS – I’m not arguing points you’ve made, I’m debating them or questioning them … as you do with posts I put up along with other people’s, it’s nowt personal to you.

“these players don’t need to be here, most of them are not Geordies who love the club and they could easily get another club to take them”.

I here this alot mate, not just from you, and it winds me up TBH. When they sign the contract they want to play for NUFC. I’m not asking that they then fall in love with all things Newcastle. But I do expect commitment when the chips are down.
The NUFC fans have this unfair reputation of over expecting – bollocks!. All we want to see is hard working, entertaining football. Look at the hysteria in the ground when Cisse scored in the last minute against Fulham (?) and Pardew jumps into the crowd. The fans didn’t try to kick his head in or out like that did they?!. I don’t expect top 4 or trophies mate, but I do expect effort and commitment. If they you are suggesting that these players don’t give a monkeys about this club, then why the hell should paying fans give a monkeys about them?.

As for your point on pride mate. It may be human nature for the weak minded, but I believe in digging in and toughing the hard times out over jumping ship or throwing the towel in. But that’s just my opinion mate.

      (Quote)

  52. Solano , It’s not just a slow start to the season though mate is it, it’s a continuation of rank bad form since last season and with new players too. Add in the anyones fault but mine,( usually us fans ) attitude and he can’t expect any respect imo.

  53. The huge problem is, Pardew has lost the fans and it’s rare that a manager recovers after that.

I’m not so sure Pards can survive this period. Ashley may be forced to take action as the hostile atmosphere could affect the team.

IMO, that would make no difference as the team are **** and results will remain woeful but Ashley may believe a new cheap shiny manager might be the answer to save his fortunes sinking down the relegation plug hole.

A defeat against Hull might be the trigger, me thinks.
