That winning feeling!

To say it was a game of two halves would be an understatement. The first was as dire as it could get and it looked to be another long afternoon of football ahead.

It took but a few seconds!
It took but a few seconds!

Then after a rocket from Alan Pardew at half time, the lads came out and showed what can happen when you believe in yourselves and give it your all. Here is what was said.

Pardew said: “There were a few strong words.

“It’s not nice as a manager to go in and bark out orders but sometimes it’s necessary just to shake people up because we needed shaking up.

“We needed to offer a threat. We’re Newcastle United. We’re not a small club. We’re a big club and we were playing like a small club.

“We were giving too much possession to Tottenham, too much space. We never made a challenge. And we were fortunate to come in a 1-0.

“So I reminded them about the fundamentals of a Premier League game and we come out with a much stronger attitude.”

After that epic speech, it only took about seven seconds for the reaction Pardew and us fans were all looking for! When from the second half kick off, a beautiful through ball from Colback was met at full tilt by a rampaging Sammy Ameobi and he lashed it into the back of the net with his left foot. After my initial reaction of WOW! My next thought was ‘that is the kind of thing that normally happens too us not for us’.

From there we really started to press Spurs hard and to me they looked defeated and tired. If you have been a Toon fan long enough, you get to know that look when things start to get tough and no one on the park wants to know about it. And when Perez nodded the ball home for our second and his first ever goal, I must say it was the happiest I had been for some time when watching a game that Newcastle was playing in. I was really pleased for both Sammy and Ayoze, it will do their confidence a world of good. From there until the 95th minute there was the usual edge of the seat stuff and desperate defending. Sissoko had probably his best game for us and the defence did work well as unit. But at the end of the day, the credit must go to the goal scorers. Not because they were the stand outs but because both goals were very well taken by two young players that are looking to make their mark and they will be all the better for it.

We are not out of the woods yet but some more fighting displays like that, a bit of luck and some moments of magic, we might just make something of this season!

Bring on Liverpool!

  1. Pleased that Saylor got booked its effing stupid what he does and makes the team look like idiots . Decent performance from the team first half though

  2. Good half..well done to the ref for booking Saylor. . Hopefully he will cease embarrassing himself like that from now on!

  3. For me Cisse’s first touch just isn’t good enough to play up front on his own.

Looks like Perez is on instead which I think is a good move. Other than that, Liverpool are here for the taking but need to be careful as they have quality in final third which could punish us.

  4. Finally back on, problems getting onto site for a while there.

The worst manager in the league some will have you believe. 😆

    A Championship manager at best.

I maintain that we will be in a relegation battle come January. 😉

You can stick to Pards being ****. 😉

Injuries will hit don’t worry about that. 😉

One thing is clear. Pards and the current players deserve applause.

We’ve looked much better since Riviere, De Jong and Cabella have played a lesser role.

I will put my hands up if we maintain this run. I still believe it’s fools gold we are watching at the minute.

  7. Howay the lads. Love it. Just love it. Some good performances among that lot – Abeid, Dummett, Taylor, Colo, Janmaat, Sissoko, Colback. A really good fighting performance again.

And another one in the eye of the surrender monkeys.

  8. great result, poor first half but who cares if we win

I was hoping for an Abeid start instead of Anita. he played brilliantly

    Best players
Abeid, Janmatt, Colo, Sissoko, Colback, Perez for the goal..

How anyone can say we have a poor squad of players 😯 🙄 😛 😆

its not the players, its how you manage them, well done to Pardew for listening to the fans and changing his ways, credit due..

  9. Good win. We looked nice and tidy at the back and we can’t often say that and good on the break.

Two moans which are pretty futile considering we won but they wer;e there for the taking and I think we could have beaten them easier if we had shown a bit for attacking ambition and our final ball was pretty poor.

Oh and obviously Perez scored and I think I called that before the game when I said he should have started.. 😆

  10. Add Krul too the good performances he pulled off a blinder of a save ,all of a sudden our squad seems a bit more of a full squad than a first 11 with a load of bairns too fill in .Long way too go yet but things look a hell of a lot brighter than a couple of weeks ago .

  11. Mark … well done to Pardew for listening to the fans and changing his ways, credit due..

    You missed on about 5 😆 s and many more 🙄 s and a couple of 😉 s.

  12. Great result and performance from the lads. Credit where it’s due for Pardew. He has listened and acted and getting the results at long last. Pardew Out crew are completely vindicated by making him change his ways. The squad are clearly much more capable than some gave them credit for.

    Amazing stuff! 😆

  15. Get in! Great start to the day laughing at scousers in the pub! Groans when cis went off but it was the right sub. Well deserved win, good job to all the lads, abeid esp seems to be coming good!

  16. Tioté cant retake Abeid’s spot now. Lads were fantastic, Dummett kept Sterling out, Coloccini was cool, Janmaat played TOUGH, same for Colback Abeid Sissoko Sameobi, its nice to see players fighting for the shirt. The match wasnt pretty, but we got the win and we completely neutralized them and were the more dangerous team. That’s great for the spirit, thats the will to win!

I absolutely love watching the Clueless Crew die of embarrassment. It’s killing them praising Pardew. It was 3 yrs ago today Bootsy was screaming for his sacking. Priceless.

He’s never stopped since. Pards keeps jumping up and popping Bootsy on the nose just as he thinks he’s out for the count. I haven’t woo hoo’d for ages. 😆

    Woo hoo hoo hoo 😆

The bionic chumps aka the Clueless Crew 😆 😛 .

  20. Have to say Credit to Pardew played intelligent tactics today and got the win importantly. Recently he has been doing well. I hope he can keep this up. The players also played well credit to them too.

  21. Pardew has mentioned a few times that a few fans have said unpleasant things and he has listed to what we’ve said. he has also fell out with a few players due to his tactics.

He obviously isnt as stubborn as we think as he’s changed his style a little. 3 weeks ago Anita would of started in a contain line-up, not he’s opted for a bit more punch to the team with wingers and attack minded players.

Well done the fans for the constant pressure 😉

  22. We did attack today and it was a joy to watch, there was pace too. So much better than containment football and hey we even got the win, go figure. 😀

  23. Just got in and missed the match, but what a splendid and unsuspected result !
Looks like a couple of Pardew’s bairns have stepped up to the plate and are putting a shift in.
Cuffing Liverpool is by no means an easy feat.

    Howay the lads !!

  24. YOUR WELCOME!

4 Games in a row I’ve not worn the kit, and 4 games we’ve won (counting League Cup). So, I will continue to do my part for the fans and players.

  25. Think we were lucky to keep eleven on the pitch today. Probably should have had two sent off but when you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll.

  26. NorCal Toonfan@522 🙂

Looks like the motto in your hoose on match day should be “get your kit off ” ? 😆 😆

Stuart79@523, read the same thing elsewhere. Never saw the game, but it seems like we were hoying ourselves about a bit. About time too, makes a nice change from the stand-off non-pressing toon of yesteryear !

      (Quote)

  27. Pardew has changed tactics and personnel. I didn’t think he had it in him, but he had to have listened to someone.

Instead of having one isolated up front he has Sissoko in support as a No. 10 and he has genuine wingers.

This is what we had been saying, that Pardew kept playing the same system with the same players and expecting different results. Now he has changed system and personnel so I can’t see how anybody could be crowing that some of us were wrong about Pardew (except, like me, we didn’t think he was capable of change).

It is impossible to lose an argument if you say that when we win it is because Pardew is a decent manager and if we lose it is because we have **** players – “heads I win, tails you lose”. Repeat that mantra, throw in a few woo hoos and talk about trains. The reality is that Pardew was forced to change. I hope he keeps it up because it is much more fun when we are winning.
