Cisse gives Jose the blues! Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea

Cisse sinks Chelsea
Cisse sinks Chelsea
All of the talk prior to the game was centred around Chelsea and the possibility of going through a season unbeaten.

That possibility is now a thing of the past thanks to a brace from Papiss Cisse who scored his fifth and sixth league goals of what has been a stop-start campaign for the Senegalese striker.

Of course this isn’t the first brace he’s scored against Chelsea with two spectacular strikes earning us a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge a few seasons ago. This time around his goals were of a different quality as he joined the game from the bench and demonstrated the knack of being on the right place at the right time proving that if you provide him with enough service he can and will score goals.

It was backs against the walls stuff for a lot of the game with United seemingly happy to let Chelsea have the ball in their own half whilst stifling any room for the more creative players within the Blues’ ranks to stamp their mark on the game. The likes of Diego Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Willian were quiet on the day by all accounts.

That was to be expected as Jose Mourinho’s side have been drawing praise from all quarters but in the end it was the determination of United that won the day despite ten (well, 16 actually) very tense minutes at the end of the game following Steven Taylor’s dismissal for a silly second yellow card being punished immediately by Didier Drogba heading beyond Jak Alnwick but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser.

It’s a notable achievement for a Newcastle side that just a few months ago was floundering at the foot of the table yet now find themselves in and around the European places. It is of course early days and we’re not even halfway through the season but winning games isn’t a bad habit to be getting into.

Howay the lads!

  1. Stem, I’m more keen on beating the Scum than Arsenal tbh, we have a woeful recent record against them under Percy.
Re the bridge, I can’t walk or drive over it mate I have a terrible fear of heights, but it is a magnificent piece of engineering and us Bristolians are very proud of it. It looks amazing at night all lit up 😀

  2. KIM I think jabba is afraid of heights as well sixth and above puts his pocket in panic lol

STEM/NEWKIE,I take your points on board

  3. Kim I’ve only ever seen it a couple of times. Looks very high up but it is an amazing piece of construction and architecture. I would be afraid to walk over it myself. I wrote my last message wrong. Typing to quickly and sending it without checking. I would rest Colocini against Arsenal. Go all out for the cup bringing him back and put out our top team. I would also hope we got enough in the tank to defeat Sunderland.

  4. Icedog I totally agree on Ashley being afraid to open his wallet and invest on that extra defender we so desperately need or a striker with bags of talent. It will never happen unfortunately, even if we fluked our way into the champion’s league. Ben Arfa and Jonas would have to go first and Miwbia also before he does anything. That’s why we never get anywhere because not many lower league or some foreign team’s can’t afford there wages. There better off staying.

  5. Ice@228 😆 I was gonna type that very thing mate, beat me to it 🙄

Stem@230, Yep it’s something else, hard to build now let alone 150 years ago. The kid that set of the fireworks was born on the bridge 8 years ago.

We need to go careful with Colo, I want him right to face the Mackems.

Agree with ya about dummet, hes what has really made the defence solid looks a proper defender to me that loves to defend

  7. Been watching the Chelsea game tonight and Salah played ok while he was on, but Andre Shurrle was excellent. It made me think if the conversation I was having with Stu yesterday. It must be frustrating for him being that good but getting little opportunity behind the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Willian on the wing and being behind Costa, Drogba and Remy.

  8. Sharpy17- You talked about Schurlle, this is one player Id love to see at Nufc, if Sissoko leaves, then we have to sell him to Chelsea only, and try a swap with Schurlle! Solano has a right point about Sameobi, he can a future as striker. Remember he closed Spurs game as Target Man, and he really bullied Spurs defense. I think the option of a 442 with Sammy as second striker and Ayoze/Cissé as poacher is a serious one!

      (Quote)

  9. And I can already give you my starting line up for Derby game, Id go for a classic 442:

    ———————Alnwick——————
    -Janmaat-Taylor-Coloccini-Dummett-
    –Ayoze–Colback—Sissoko–Aarons-
    —————-Sammy-Cissé————–

Its if Aarons is fit, if not Id put Cabella and swap him with Sammy. Abeid and Tioté as subs

      (Quote)

  10. For Arsenal:
    ——————Alnwick——————
    -Janmaat-Willo-Dummett-Haidara–
    ——————-Tioté———————
    ———Colback——-Abeid————-
    –Cabella———————Sammy—-
    ——————Ayoze——————–

No forget that if Janmaat gets booked, he suspended, Id put Satka or Streete RB for Spurs game

      (Quote)

  11. This would be my guess for Arsenal:
    ——————Alnwick——————
    -Janmaat-Colo-Dummett-Haidara–
    ——————-Tioté———————
    ———Colback——-Abeid————-
    –Ayoze———————Sammy—-
    ——————Cisse——————–

  12. Arsenal will come out all guns blazing so defending well will be top required and catching them on the break will be our best form of attack. Sadly I think it will be a defeat for us.

  13. So Pardew gets MOTM. Never bodes well for the next game.

Still he now has 3. 1 behind Joe Kinnear; 2 behind KK and 3 behind SBR & Big Sam.

      (Quote)

  14. Prem – MOTM? Worth anything – not really. Read on .com that Rolando and Abeid are out for Arsenal. Has the fool brought even more players back too early? Abeid was out for a month, comes back against Burnley and is out again. Only replacement we’ve got for Sissoko’s job. Suppose it will be Anita then.

      (Quote)

  15. Georgio, agreed not worth a lot. Still I imagine Martinez and Pochettino would still want their first 😆

      (Quote)

  16. MOTM – 😯
    again
Not bad for someone who is out of their depth in the Premier League. 😉
Anyhow, lets see how far that accolade gets him versus Arsenal.

Like others have already said not bothered about this one anyway, more bothered about the following two. Particularly the Derby, as I don’t think we will win the cup anyway.

  17. Have Arsenal got any players for tomorrow? Jesus try have ten out and some of their better players too. No defenders either!

We should have a chance and at 6/1 it’s a great bet!

      (Quote)

  18. Stuart79 when you say 6-1 is that for a draw ?
Will be lucky to lose 1-0 tomorrow. Our injury list has jinxed us once again. Just hope nobody else gets injured.

      (Quote)

  19. Looking at Arsenals squad we have a chance; If we can show the same defensive solidity and stay in the game were bound to create against their makeshift defence

      (Quote)

  20. I just hope Pards and the players don’t go out with the same attitude that we should write this game of and concentrate on other games, I know there was plenty of fans wrote of the Chelski game, but thankfully the team didn’t

      (Quote)

  21. Looking forward to watching the game on tv instead of a ropey link . Not sure how it’s gonna go though, they have as many injuries as us, should be interesting.
MOTM for Percy I see, that’s us scuppered for tomorrow then 🙄

      (Quote)

  22. I’ve been away for a while. Has Bootsy admitted he was wrong about Pardew yet, that he’s out of his depth as a premier league manager?

Or is he still searching for his balls? 😉

      (Quote)

  23. Troy. It’s the season of goodwill, hush man, let’s keep talk of balls to them that hang on the tree 😉

      (Quote)

  24. Most likely this is a very stupid question, but has anyone got 2 spare tickets for the Derby match? I’m coming back to UK next week and the match had sold out by the time I got a chance to look for tickets.

      (Quote)

  25. oh that’s wrong
Newcastle: Alnwick; Janmaat, Williamson, Coloccini (c), Dummett; Tiote, Colback; Gouffran, Perez, Ameobi; Cisse Subs: Woodman, Haidara, Anita, Vuckic, Cabella, Armstrong, Riviere

      (Quote)

  26. I see Gouffran has again threatened to show the public the photos he has of Pardew. It can be the only reason he gets a start.
The selection of Williamson also means we aren’t going to venture far from our 18 yard line.
Park that bus is the team talk

      (Quote)

  27. We are like the little girl.
When we are good we are very good but when we are horrid we are very very horrid

      (Quote)

  28. They keep replaying the goal and how little Williamson does is amazing. it is as if he is standing in concrete

      (Quote)

  29. Cabella and Hedeira need to come on for Willo and Gouffron. We’re like a different squad with Willo on the pitch

      (Quote)

  30. Willamson is absolutely *****. Goofy looks bloody useless. Get Hadaira on now. Put Dummett in as CB and get Abied on for Goofy before its to late

      (Quote)

  31. Get off Willo’s back, have a look at some of the others, Tiote is doing sweet nothing, Colback is over run, and please do not start me off about Sammi

      (Quote)

  32. Without Sissoko all our midfield do is crab across the half way line. Makes the team selection weird

      (Quote)

  33. Toby you can suggest whatever you like, but I expect a lot more from Tiote, and Sammi just ambles around. I accept the limitations of Willo’s, but a few weeks ago we were singing his praises

      (Quote)

  34. Very poor so far. It’s we are afraid of the ****. Arsenals defense is **** we have a chance if we go at them. Need to get willo and Gouffran off though.

      (Quote)

  35. Ash @ 293 I think you’ll find I wasn’t and never have been one of the one’s singing his praises 😉 yeah there are others not playing the best but for me Willo allways sticks out.
