Game On! Newcastle United v Manchester Utd

NewcastleUnited
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows of our Premier league meeting with Manchester Utd this evening, St. James’ Park 7.45.
Theres not much to add to the preview except that it now looks like Haidara is now out of the game so should be replaced by Ryan Taylor’
John Carver has been speaking again in the lead up to tonights game. JC believes his squad is adequately prepared to face the Red Devils and sees no reason why his team can’t come out on top.
“I think everyone was feeling the pressure against Villa,”.
“I think there was a great reaction from the players though. We need to build on that and react again now as we face Manchester United.
“The fixtures coming up are a bit daunting, but they’re also exciting. I love a challenge and the players are up for it as well.
“We’ve discussed it and we’ve set a target for those games. We seem to really get up for it when we welcome the big teams to St. James’ Park.
“We’ve looked at Man United’s record away from home and it isn’t that great, so there’s no reason why we can’t get at their defence.
“They have some super players going forward but they are also vulnerable in certain areas and hopefully we can exploit that.”
Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul will be no strangers to Van Gaal’s style of play after playing in his squad during the 2014 World Cup, where Holland reached the semi-finals.
“One or two of the Dutch lads have been giving me a bit of advice,” said Carver. “It was quite an interesting insight but I’ll keep that private for now.
“I think it’s difficult for Manchester United fans. They’ve seen how entertaining they can be always on the front foot and playing exciting football.
“Now Van Gaal has come in with a different style and lots of different systems. His principles are still the same they like a lot of possession but he’s a little but more patient.”
“you just have to think of when we went to Old Trafford and won 3-0. The stats then said we hadn’t won for what, about 40 years?
“I’m always looking at the positives. Why shouldn’t we get a good result again?”
So the time for talking is over and lets see the Lads putting up a fight and show a bit of pride and determination.

  1. Which 2 teams are we going to beat Eric mate? Leicester and who else? Possibly QPR? It’s going to be so exciting. 4 wins for his time in charge this season. It’s a lot to ask of Johnny C.

      (Quote)

  2. G2: I said we had ALREADY beat 2 under Carver – Villa and Hull. Not sure about the rest of the season. I will have to think about that.

      (Quote)

  3. G2: as well, if we get another 2 wins that will make it about a 20% win %. Oh Happy Day.

Give yourself a shake. Why will it be anyone other than Carver. He’s getting results and says the right things. 😉

Incredible weather that. Not above 3 degrees since Crippa. It’s just starting to warm up over here. Supposed to be 15 degrees over the weekend.

  6. Psychs

His results are average. That’s all he needs. They are good enough to keep us mid table.

      (Quote)

  7. Not over a full season they’re not.
What we have seen so far is nothing short of relegation form.
Hope he keeps this up as it will give the great ‘thinker’ a bit of a problem.
    Mwwwwhahahahahaa 😛

  8. So as Dave says Cisse looks like getting 7 game ban. But what of Evans?, how can he say he didn’t do it on purpose, it’s obvious he did, if he gets off with that then I despair I really do.

      (Quote)

  9. Troy – 9 points from 9 games. Looking at the games you’d have saif min 12 and max 16 from those nine gams, so a) he’s on a points aveage heading for relegation and b) he’s behind min expectations given a friendly fixture list. A coach like Pardew would have got 5-7 more points from the last nine games, and would have had tis **** squad sitting in 8th. I’ve seen nothing in JC to decsribe him as average. Naive, out of depth, nice guy but…Before you start, this isn’t me turning, we need to get a good coach in, back him, and then given him time, riding througn good times and bad. That guy at Palace seems to have done a good job, maybe we should look at him?

  10. Our new training ground is to be built by December. It’s costing £8m and that has been covered by the sale of Mbiwa and Pardew. I wonder if it’s called the Sport Direct Football complex…

Where the hell are these bloody minutes from the fans forum and our accounts? They’re holding them back for a reason I reckon.

  11. BB&Dave , I could do with a massage meself, put my back out 3 days ago and suffering spasms ever since. ****** the accounts if there’s a free bit of massage going send it my way.

Don’t understand why they haven’t released them yet either. 😕

  12. Betsy & GTE

A point a game is not relegation form. Have you checked the table? It’s bang on average

      (Quote)

  13. GTE

You’re best off telling Betsy where you think Pards would have had us sitting in the league not me. 😉

      (Quote)

  14. Troy I okay Carver will probably get more than two win’s but he really needs too. 9 points add 6 is relegation form in my eyes. Ashley seem’s fine with it so I can imagine next season being like this one.

  15. I don’t think there would have been any difference to the results had Parsnip honoured his contract and not bailed at the first opportunity that came his way.
I have been calling for a better manager/coach than Percy Parsnip.
The club is happy with more of the same. (tripe)
They only have themselves to blame if it all ends in tears.
    Ho Hum

      (Quote)

  16. Carvers managed 2 wins in ten, Over a full season that would be 7 wins (The same ammount of wins we got last time we went down)

No way they will risk the tv money for him regardless of his cheapness, Unless he drastically improves.

      (Quote)

  17. Dislinking slimiy Pardew, I can understand. Not thinking that he would have improved upon Burnley (2 points dropped in last five mins, hopelessly too open), Southampton (point dropped in the second half, again wayttoo open), Stoke (2 pointsdropped in the last minute – naive, naive, naive in the lead up), Villa (we got three points, but again we were so open and better finishing by then would have beeen healthy away win) and Man Utd (2 points dropped in last minute, disastrous lead up to the goal, sounding familiar?). I’m not even counting the surrenders at City and Chelsea. Pardew’s teams sure as hell wouldn’t have been so bloody easyto play against.

  18. Ecstatic Rangers fans today. Great scenes showing the emotions of liberation from dictatorship.

      (Quote)

  19. Simon@320 😆
Ice@321, Trust me to send the last pic to Dave 🙄

So Evans is totally denying he spat towards/at Cisse, what a t*** he is.

      (Quote)

  20. KIM that’s the trouble Dave is hard to bargain with.
Well jabba snides gone from Rangers now

      (Quote)

  21. I’m sure Jabba’s pretty devastated losing Llambias and Leach today. I think his still allowed two board members and I personally recommend Joe Kinnear and Dennis Wise.

      (Quote)

  22. They are two bright sparks Joe Kinnear and Dennis Wise. Working together to solve Ranger’s financial problems and getting players on the cheap. It’s a win win situation ?

G2 Imagine have Wise and Kinnear at the same time lol.

      (Quote)

  23. While i get Rangers fans being pleased to see the back of ashley/llambias and co, Who in the right mind would want someone like Dave King involved with their club?

    Utterly bizarre bunch

      (Quote)

  24. CC On the agreement of the loan his still allowed two board members in. There most probably get voted out again so it doesn’t matter who he appoints.

      (Quote)

  25. CC agree mate, but maybe King will give a little back where as jabba will give you nowt and take plenty

      (Quote)

  26. Ice @ 328 I dont think its over for Jabba just yet. I wont be surprised if he has King over a barrel with contracts etc. You know what he is like.

Kim you know if I lived across the water I wouldn’t think twice about giving you a massage 😀

      (Quote)

  27. ice

Maybe mate but there’s not a hope in hell Ashley will just write of those loans

    This will run and run

      (Quote)

  28. Dave, but of course mate 😉 Joking aside it’s bloody agony when it goes into spasm, proper scary supporting lew to walk or get out the bath 🙁 Doc says to rest it 😆 he didn’t know about Lew to be fair as he’s a new gp. just loaned a massage chair with heat from my mate, gonna try it later.

lots of jokes on twitter about Evans little lie.

      (Quote)

  29. DAVE aye jabba is a real crafty cookie would put nowt past him, just wish he would put half as much graft into the toon and appoint a good manager and give him some money but new chance.my only hope is the toon fans see what the Rangers fans have helped to get jabba and his snides out and stay away from SJP

      (Quote)

  30. CC@331, I’m inclined to agree mate, as much as Jabba’s a ****, I don’t get why any fan would entrust the running of their club to a tax evading money laundering cheat, even if he is one of them. Will be amazed if the SFA find him fit and proper to become chairman.

      (Quote)

  31. CC, there are clauses built into being able to drawdown the other £5m of the £10m he last loaned them which they will be wanting to do any day. he could play proper hardball with them if he has a mind to.

      (Quote)

  32. KIM heat is the thing to help your back pain mate I get the problem, home made heat pads works great for me cheap and easy to make

      (Quote)

  33. Ice last night after Lew went to bed I was sat with hot water bottle on middle of my back. G.P reckons I’ve damaged the muscle that is attached to the ribs in the lung area. When it goes into spasm the whole back and both sides kill for up to 3 hours before it dies back to just the side pain. Done my lower back and neck loads before but this is something else mate,It’s awful, you are spot on about heat though .

      (Quote)

  34. KIM hot water bottles nee good I found, get some wheat from pet shop, make a pocket from old pillow case or similar to any size you wish you can even make one to go round the top of neck (I have all sizes) sew it up and into microwave a couple if min it lasts for a good while.
PS first time in micro for five min just to remove moist from wheat

      (Quote)

  35. Ice, not into lavender mate, too strong a smell for me. Is that to help her sleep Ice or just for the smell ❓

      (Quote)

  36. Kimtoon mate what about muscle relaxants? Do you have Robax products over there such as Robaxacet? They are very good for back problems, which I frequently get.

      (Quote)

  37. So De Jong has a collapsed lung and is out until June now? What on earth? How did he get a collapsed lung? Did he try to barf on Ashley? Dummett is out until the end of the season as well. Believe it or not Aarons is due back March 15th. Personally I’ll believe it when I see it.

      (Quote)

  38. Does she fall asleep before or after icedog mate? Sorry I couldn’t resist. 😀

      (Quote)

  39. Ice, 😆

G2, Don’t know mate, I’m using Voltarol gel and paracetomol, can’t take Ibruprofen tablets cause of my low platelet problems. They sometimes prescribe diazepam to relax but I can’t be taking owt that makes me drowsy cause of Lew.

      (Quote)

  40. G2, I thought De Jong had an op for that recently, don’t tell me it’s gone again 😯

      (Quote)

  41. Going to be a busy summer. These are out of contract, and only maybe Satka will geta renewal:

    Raylor
    Ferreyra
    Gutierrez
    Vuckic
    Alnwick
    Satka
    Streete
    Campbell

These look set to be moved on (sold or loan):

    Tiote
    Obertan
    Cisse
    Bigi
    Ferguson
    Marveaux
    Elliot

That leaves us with a sheer lack of quality at CB, CM and CF, and cover needed at LB and in MF. A clearout for a new coach? I bloody hope so.

      (Quote)

  42. Let’s see GTE mate. If we let go of those 15 players and bring in say 2 youngsters would that satisfy everyone? Don’t forget, there are agents fees and wages to consider so we have to be very careful with our spending as Lee has commented.

      (Quote)

  43. It’s always a big summer here and that’s why we are never building anything. It’s just a shambles to be honest. We will have another few players come in the summer and then it will take them time to settle and that’s not to mention I have no doubt whatsover that we have a smaller squad next season than we do this season.

In short – it’s too big a rebuilding job.

      (Quote)

  44. GTE – Aye, and realistically the only ones I’d want keep are Tiote and Cisse, but they are the prime candidates for sale given that they are ep getting on. Especially Tiote as Ashley will wantto know why Abeid can’t step up while being on 1/3 or 1/4 the wages.

Worring in a way because there’s no way we will bring in that many – and the few youth prospects who are almost ready to step up are basically already in the first team 😆 Hopefully the new coach and Carr know a few more Perez-like gems to get us out of the *******! 🙂

      (Quote)

  45. For sure – and its also quality over quantity. The good news is that 8 of rthose players contracts are up, so we don’t actually have to sell them to clear the wages. Of the 15 we’ll only really miss Cisse – some would argue Tiote. 13 first team players we can let go and barely miss! Replace that lot with even three real first teamers and the squad is transformed!

      (Quote)

  46. I could see us cutting the squad down to about 9 players. That way we get maximum effort out of them trying to cover on the pitch. For the fussy out there we could bring in a couple of amateurs to sit on the bench in case of injuries..

      (Quote)

  47. I’m not worried about replacing the numbers, Newkie – the problem is tha complete failure to manage the squad where we could lose 13 – 14 players, bring in 3 and still be better.

      (Quote)

  48. Tiote has been past his sell by date this season or working his ticket to be away, needs the extra money to keep all them wives happy

      (Quote)

  49. How does Graham Carr put up with the pinheads in management at his age? I couldn’t be bothered. It’s a hopeless mess and he must know it by now.

      (Quote)

  50. GTE@357, there are only 2 of those players who would be anywhere near the 1st team anyway.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we let the majority of those players leave…

      (Quote)

  51. Pappis Cisse has a smashing set of pearly whites, but I tell you what he was lucky with the player that he hockled at, because he could have been picking his teeth up off the floor.
What an absolute embarassment, I wonder if the club will fine him too ?

      (Quote)

  52. GTE@371, the way we are going Ashley will make do with a 15 man squad and sell the other 10 places on the black market 🙂 😉

      (Quote)

  53. GTE – Amazed, no actually staggered that you think we can afford to lose 13 players, bring in only 3 and be a stronger squad! Are you on space cakes?
