  1. what do you propose then, Aussie? Forget about Austin and watch Southampton or West Ham get him for £15m and we go and buy another Riviere for £6m?

      (Quote)

  2. BB that kit is sh1te , they have the colours right, then after a season or so the can lighten the blue 😉
On Austin if he is our main target then they need to push the boat out to get him, as without doubt he will get us a higher place finish so will help pay for himself. Or we could stick to the usual old way QPR ask for £15,& we offer £8-9 then say he wasnt value for money or we wont be held to ransom.

  3. Big Dave – so cynical 😛
But that’s the way NUFC does its business.
I really doubt we will see Austin in black and white

      (Quote)

  4. Aussie – I fully understand your logic mate and agree with you to a point. QPR are in a ***** financial position due to recklessly slashing the cash, but if it’s done sensibly then you are potentially adding value to the clubs assets. You suggest a budget of £60m, so I say Austin @ £15m, Berahino @ £15m and Matip @ £10m. There’s £40m on 3 top first team players mate and it still leaves £20m for RB cover, winger and midfielder.
I would also get in on the loan acting as well personally. Scum are linked with Karl Jenkinson from Arsenal for a season loan & option to buy – I think he’d be good cover for Janmaat.
Ask Man Utd about Januzaj or Madrid about Odegaard.

All I’m saying Aus is that we don’t have to play safe every window. Players like Austin & Berahino could actually double in value.

  5. I reckon we will get some players we haven’t yet been linked with.
Completely out of the blue, just like when Cisse came.
But I am hopeful that Carr and Maca are working closely on the job.
I think we need the backroom staff sorted first and foremost.

      (Quote)

  6. I also think the list of players shown to Carver has been shredded and a new one is being drawn up.

      (Quote)

  7. Long time no post. Been a bit disenchanted with the whole club but Ashleys interview gave me hope!

Can’t understand why people are so desperate for Austin.

Not good enough, can’t play up front on his own. Not sure about dost either, but my preferred choice would be a more Target man type that can allow cabella and perez to play off him.

Austin will not bring that to the table, he is merely a poacher.

A fit Carroll would be my choice. I would even prefer gestede.

      (Quote)

  8. I would like 2 new centre halves. A good winger and a good striker.

We may even need another central midfielder.

Also, we have missed a trick with this Juanmi. Him and Perez behind a big striker would have been quality.

      (Quote)

  9. Actually Gestede would be way down the list but you know what I mean. Big Strong Centre forward to link up play.

Austin = Cisse. We need a different type of striker.

      (Quote)

  10. Also some of the free transfers are unbelievable this year, and yet we won’t get any of them because of the competition!

      (Quote)

  11. Soccer Sauce ?@soccer_sauce
We understand #NUFC officials are meeting directly with Charlie Austin and his agent today

      (Quote)

  12. My Targets would be

CB: Schar, Richards, Mings, Van dijk, Huth,

LB : Garbutt on a free!

Centre Mid. Nzonzi, (or someone tall, need a player with height in front of back four) Cabaye, Wijnaldum, Hughes,

Winger/Second striker: Redmond, Ntep, Juanmi, Konoplyanka, Narsingh, Pato,

Striker: Gignac, Dost, Gestede, Carroll, Javier hernandez, Berahino

      (Quote)

  13. Bas Dost one of the hottest strikers in Europe being described as the “cheap option” on the Chron site 😕

IMO hes as close to a cert to get into double figures next season as we could attract. He’s made for the PL

      (Quote)

  14. Austin will be th one that drags on all summer. QPR will want to get the best deal and so will he so he will wait and wait and wait.

      (Quote)

  15. According to my dutch colleague Wijnaldum is being heavily linked with us in Dutch press and Schteve wants Vlaar to be our CB and captain, preparing to offer him a 4 year deal.

    Who knows ……. 😕

      (Quote)

  16. Liam – I certainly hope the first part is right mate. Vlaar could be the surprise of the window though to be fair. Villa are waiting to get Richards in and Vlaar is on a free to leave. We also changed the policy to allow us to go after the older players – but a 4yr deal to a player already 30?! I don’t see Ashley signing off on that one mate

      (Quote)

  17. Stuart from earlier…what do I suggest we do? Look for other striking options for a start..there are other better options than Austin!
Sharpy I don’t want us playing safe either but I don’t want an over priced striker when we could get better bang for our buck elsewhere! If we get Austin for 15m then so be it, happy days… I just look forward to the fans pinning away for him now, slagging him off as a waste of money when he struggles to reproduce his form from last year…

      (Quote)

  18. But that’s the point, Aussie. If the scouts think he is capable of reproducing his form then he’s worth £15m. But you’re not going to get a 15-20 goal season player for less than £15m these days. Look at Riviere…

      (Quote)

  19. Austin may not hit the same heights if he joins us, but I doubt that will be the case personally. He has consistently got the goals throughout his career no matter what standard of players were around him. If we improve our supply lines (which we will) -then I just can’t see him failing. If him and Dost turn up, it will be genuinely exciting to see real depth of quality up front again – and the forwards will be putting the effort in because of the competition for a starting berth. Fingers crossed.

      (Quote)

  20. He got 5 assists too, so that’s a direct hand in 23 PL goals in 35 games. That’s in a poor team. He cost them 4 million, so I don’t expect QPR to hold out for 15 – reckon there will be a settlement like others have said between 10 and 12.

      (Quote)

  21. Shamrock: were all his goals from open play? No penalties? I think we can afford Austin and should get him if we can. Bas Dost, Austin, Cisse, Ayoze, Aarons, Cabella, de Jong. The more quality choices we have the better as far as I am concerned.

      (Quote)

  22. If it’s a case of QPR wanting £15m then pay it. But if it’s a we go with £15m then QPR say actually we want £20m, then **** that – move on

      (Quote)

  23. Sharpy – Yeah not convinced by the Vlaar story but quite frankly would love to have him at the Toon.

Shamrock – Austin wont come to us mate we will have to settle for much less. Strikers are a rare breed and plenty will come knocking for him.

Liverpool were mugs for going for Ings over Austin.

Berahino would be an exciting buy but why on earth would he come to us when his agent is spouting Champs league in his ear?

      (Quote)

  24. Actually Eric, he scored only 2 out of 4 penalty attempts this season – so 16 from open play. If he joined, he should not be chief penalty taker!

      (Quote)

  25. LST – Fingers crossed we get him, but think bigger clubs would be mad not to go for the lad. ‘re: Liverpool going for the wrong forward, I’d agree. However, they may be thinking decent striker for nominal fee to keep costs down as they have a superstar forward lined up, which will blow a hole in their budget?

      (Quote)

  26. Surely if we are talking to Austins people (reported? ) then surely we have met the clubs valuation?

      (Quote)

  27. Austin & Ings would have been good signings for us but Liverpool who are aiming for the Title or champions league spots ??

Before: Reina, Agger, Caggagher, Skrtal, Kelly, Johnson, Flanagan, Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Shelvey, Lucas, Sterling, Carroll, Bellamy, Kuyt & Suarez

After: Mignolet, Manquillo, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Allen, Ilori, Can, Lallana, Lambert, Balotelli, Marcovic, Aspas, Alberto, Milner, Ings, Bogdan & Borini

    Progress that Brendan…

      (Quote)

  28. Aussie – we and QPR must be ready to negotiate if they have given permission to us to see if we can agree personal terms with Austin. I’m pretty confident we’ll settle somewhere in the middle – £12m I reckon.

CC – Liverpool have spent a lot of money on some very questionable signings IMO, and are going down the same route this summer. I’ve read this morning they are ready to shell out around £7m on an 18yr old defender from Charlton. There first choice defenders aren’t that good to begin with.

      (Quote)

  29. I would imagine Austin will be waiting to see if Chelsea or Liverpool come in for him. I think that’s fair enough so it’s a decision the club must make. Do they wait and hope they don’t come in for him, give him a take it or leave it offer and let him take the risk or do they just plough on with other targets and forget him?

    Tough times ahead…

      (Quote)

  30. Shamrock: it is great to hear that most of Austin’s goals were from open play. I really hope we get him and Bas Dost. I have a massive soft spot for the name “Bas” because that was my dog’s name.

I think we will do OK and I am much more optimistic now that the b@llshtters are gone – Pards, Carvs and Stoney.

It is probably blind faith but that is what I have had for most of the 52 years I have supported our team.

      (Quote)

  31. And Shamrock: I will write something but as you have seen I need to get focused and think of a subject and not go off on mad tangents 🙂

      (Quote)

  32. Sharply

Aye Gomez again someone we’ve scouted and the usual suspects; West Ham, Southampton, Swansea etc.

Let them keep on going the way they are, We’ll enjoy the 3 points when they visit SJP

      (Quote)

  33. Eric…Why don’t you write an article thanking Carver for his service to the club? …Just a thought! 😛

      (Quote)

  34. Stu – Austin wants to play – he won’t do that at Chelsea or Liverpool. Chelsea won’t want him – he isn’t high profile enough for them & it looks like they have signed Falcao.
The reports I’m reading are that Liverpool are keen on Benteke. But they already have Sturridge & now Ings so Austin may see his chances limited there too. I would more expect to see Liverpool going for Berahino & Henandez.

      (Quote)

  35. Richie I second that mate. Eric mustn’t forget that Carver saved us from relegation and got us to 15th place. An article thanking him would be a good read especially from Eric :

      (Quote)

  36. Sharpy – Benteke would cost Liverpool £32m and for Berahino it would cost about £20m I reckon. Whether they need another striker I don’t know now they have Ings but if they do he must be up there at the top of their list

      (Quote)

  37. Terry, Richietoon, Aussie, and Shamrock: I was trying to move on.

I am trying to figure out a way to get to the Milwaukee stadium without driving and me Mam said to just get a lift with the fat, tatooed, bald people. But unfortunately that is what everybody looks like in Milwaukee – and that’s the women.

      (Quote)

  38. Someone could write an article about how well sports direct are doing financially and how much profit Mike Ashley’s ? That would cheer up the toon supporters because nothings happening on the transfer front.

      (Quote)

  39. Stuart79 just remember we are on a sound financial footing whatever the hell that mean’s. We have bolted the horse (Steve McClaren) to the cart. He will get a pound for pound replacement i’e spending jack ****! Oh and if they win a trophy or champions league place which will never happen but sports direct get free advertising for life. Absolutely **** all has changed.

  40. Jonas went for free so we need to find someone free but on lower wages. Ryan Taylor went free same rule apply’s with Jonas.
We made 5 million on Miawbia so that mean’s 4 million will go on another CB unless Lascalles is his replacement!
Not forgetting the Santon and Pardew money which might get spent in january if we are lucky. Are team is going to end up worse than last season!

  42. so much for a manic weekend 😆 Ashley has stuck it right up Shteve.. I was hopeful for Thursday for some in-comings.. next Thursday 😉

      (Quote)

  43. Gashley – what you on about man, he’s sign 4 already – he’s just not allowed to tell the papers about it 😆

      (Quote)

  44. unlike other clubs who are looking to strengthen 1 or 2, Poor teaboy Charnley has to buy up to 6 players, sell 6 and all within a budget set by scrooge. All this while trying to sign coaching staff without paying compensation 🙄

      (Quote)

  45. matip from schalke, good young centre half, yes please.

bas dorst is an average striker who struggled to get into the wolfsburg and is nowhere near the cloggy national team. not my cup of tea, but he is most likely the striker we will get cos the rest of the names being bandied about don’t want to join the toon otherwise we would have them over the line by now. the agin we have 3 great strikers in cisse, perez and riviere who will be a revelation after his disappointing first season in the epl…

      (Quote)

  46. Munich – Dorst must be one hell of a striker to score 17 goals without getting in Wolfsburgs team… 😯

      (Quote)

  47. Kim @ 431 I thought Schteve wanted to have his backroom men sorted by monday, but then he could have meant mon 29th as that would save Jabba a couple of weeks wages.

      (Quote)

  48. Dave, it’s all looking very familiar this window, lot’s of good names being linked but the reality will be very different I suspect. As for the backroom staff that could play a big part in who wants to come play for us.

      (Quote)

  49. Stuart79@39, what is it you don’t understand about the word “struggled” ? Dorst played in approximately 50% of Bundesliga games in his 3 years in Germany…the first season was even less, so in fact he did struggle to get into the Wolfsburg team. Expect to see Andre Schurrle keep him out of the team this season too….plus Wolfsburg will be signing players as they will be playing Champions League next season.
He’s an average striker, and if he’s average in the Bundesliag well…. we’ll see what he can achieve if it gets that far…. a lot of risk for 12 million…

Sharpster, no news as yet regarding Matip, but my mate is a Schalke fan and he also reckons he’s a good lad…and young too…. Schalke have just gotten a new manager, I’d expect the manager to talk Matip and Howedes both out of leaving…. …. i.e. again the toon barking up the wrong tree…

      (Quote)

  50. TBH Kim I didn’t expect any players by now, but I did think he would have had his backroom ready by now considering he knew he was getting the job for long enough.

      (Quote)

  51. Big D I reckon there’s more chance of Dorst coming than any of the English names being bandied about….
Wolfsburg are playing Champs League next season, and have loads of money, so would expect them to strengthen… there are players who like to spend 2-3 seasons playing in different countries, mabye Dorst is one of them…or maybe our cloggy connection have been on his case behind the scenes…?

      (Quote)

  52. if we are gonna spend £12m on Bas I would rather we spent it on Austin tbh, at least we know he can cut it at PL level

      (Quote)

  53. I am going to repeat myself but it is about time we bought horses for courses. That means someone like Bas Dost because I doubt at age 27 Timmy the hoof is going to change. The pattern has been for Timmy (and Willo) to belt it long to our small front line and the other teams’ centre halfs to send it straight back to our half. Cisse isn’t that small but he is all instinct and never seems to win the balls in and around the half way line.

Unless McClaren changes everything then we need someone to lead the line. Dost’s goals to games ratio seems pretty good and whenever I have seen him play (twice) he looked OK. We need a physical presence up front and at the back.

You would think Sammy might be the man to do the odd headed clearance and pop up in the box once in a while? However, for someone who is 6-6 I cant recall him ever having a header on target.
