Game On! Newcastle v Arsenal

Magpies v Gunners
Magpies v Gunners
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and of course welcome along to this ‘Game On’ thread which will take us through every twist and turn of the game against Arsenal.

A week after our rather notable goalless draw at Old Trafford it’s yet another early start for the benefit of the TV cameras, with BT Sport again selecting our game for live coverage.

That 0-0 draw last week was followed up by a safe passage through to the next round of the League Cup after seeing off Northampton Town 4-1, with new signing Florian Thauvin impressing on his home debut. You can see what Bet O’Clock reckon the odds of Thauvin proving to be a thorn in the side of The Gunners by taking a look at the link.

The question now will obviously be whether he can come close to replicating the form he managed against a League Two side when he faces sterner opposition in the form of Arsenal.

I’ll miss the match completely as I’m at work from pretty much the moment the game kicks off but I’ll be checking back her for updates so keep those comments rolling.

For those at the game make sure you have a good one and for those not at the game or who aren’t able to catch BT Sport please remember to share links in the comments below.

Team news to follow.

Howay the lads!

  3. <<<<<<<<<<< predicts we will condeed at least 30 headed goals this season which mines we need a big lump cb to control the air space in and around the 5 yard box

      (Quote)

  4. not many teams though could play arsenal for 75 mins with 10 men and only condeed 1 goal i was expecting a good tonking when we got the red card 😉

  5. Swansea are real winners, they back themselves to win even against a good side. We always look like we’re trying to not get beat.

‏@NUFC_Index Mitrovic has now been sent off as many times in his career as David Batty, and one short of Vinnie Jones. He’s 20. (via @Ladbrokes)

  7. So if Cisse wants out. That leaves Perez & a p/t Serb. Bring Armstrong back or buy another striker?

Is Haidara good enough at LB or do we need to go portugese.

Are we looking to do any business in the next 48 hours or should we leave it til January.

£100m left in the kitty and counting, apparently.

  8. PREMANDUP

    I presume you’re joking about the £100m…

And it’s Sunday. It’s bullshit news day. I don’t care if Cisse’s agent is saying he’s unhappy, he only goes if the club want to sell him.

      (Quote)

  9. And funny how some day that players like competition yet there are also stories about players very quickly being unhappy when their place has been taken by someone else.

      (Quote)

  10. TDS, Cisse is our no 9, course he isn’t happy not playing. No player should be happy not playing, that’s the whole point of competition. Up to him to force his way back to starting.

      (Quote)

  11. TDS apparently there was a comment of SM that that was the total budget over the next few windows. And he wanted to spend it now. But what the reality is You’ll have to ask Troy

      (Quote)

  12. No player should be happy not playing but I don’t think we should assume he’s off because his agent confirmed that!

We need competition but more important is team spirit. That’s why McClaren gets the big bucks. We need this lot to play as a team. So far they’ve played with passion but throug a variety of reasons it doesn’t look like we’ve really been able to get into a groove.

  13. It’d be sad if Cissé leaves. If we bring no-one, dont forget de Jong can play as Striker and actually score a goal, and can hold it up. Vukcic is the other option looking similar buf left footed

      (Quote)

  14. In the frequent Anita Colback debate, Anita has better skills, can make a pass but Colback is more consistent, can score and can make assists too, and plays with intensity. What we need is a proper DM similar to Carrick or Huddlestone to play alongide Colback. Anita is an ideal sub to close games and even if Im a critic, he still a decent player and can contribute

  15. So that Gomis fella seems ok, wonder why we went for Rivi over him exactly?…More penny pinching that has cost us.

      (Quote)

  16. With the international break coming up what will there be to talk about? Does anybody even watch England games anymore apart from Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal fans who supply the majority of the players?

When we qualify for the Euros I am sure the bookies will have us 4th favourites behind Germany, France and Spain. But we know it is just an exercise in futility as the only time we come close in international tournaments is when it is on home soil.

      (Quote)

  17. I think they should scrap the international break and go back to playing midweek games. The bigger countries are almost gifted a place anyway because of how the seeding works so what do they want a training camp to play San Martino or wherever for? Surely having a month to prepare before the tournament is enough.

I don’t even know if there is a country called San Martino but it sounds like one of the teams England would be drawn against. I don’t even know who are in England’s group I have taken so little notice.

I’m still waiting for you to produce the post where I apparently believe you have to be at the match to have a good understanding of the game and make judgements about it as opposed to those who only watch on TV.
You say I’ve said this. I’ve never. Once again you fabricate. Intentionally? Probably not. I just think you write what ever comes into your head without a session it and have likely got me mixed up with so.eine on another blog.
    YCMIU. 😉

  19. I was very critical of Marriners efforts on Saturday but there needs to be something done about footballers going down in screaming heaps when tackled.. I have been the recipient of some nasty challenges over the years and when you are hurt, you don’t A. throw both legs in the air, B. arch your back, C. throw your head back D. call out to the gods E. roll on the ground in apparent agony.
When you really hurt a leg, you don’t fuken move and you bite down on the pain until the help arrives.. this feigning injury is a blight on the game and players that fake injuries and then get medical attention should be made to sit off for 5 minutes to recover. That way we won’t see the theatrics that we are witnessing currently.

      (Quote)

  20. So Cisse wants out as he’s not happy not playing. Two things about that; 1) He needs to get over himself and embrace competition like all good players do. 2) He’s going to play the next three games so just get on with it!

Would be a disaster if he left at this late stage as I doubt we could replace him so fast.

      (Quote)

  21. Aussie – Exactly. Not sure which Arsenal player did it now as there were so many of them on Saturday, but the one lad was rolling around and then must have heard something said, by Thauvin I think, and he fucking leapt up happy as larry and mouthed off to his face. How the hell is this just widely accepted by the refs, commentators, pundits, all other fans? And yet they call us a team of thugs? Bloody pathetic.

      (Quote)

  22. Aye hitman. Agree.

I just hope mitovic is still learning and he’s not always this rash/ clumsy….

Hopefully Cisse will stay, Perez will get more games, Rivi & Toney can provide some goals along with Arma 😕

      (Quote)

  23. if cisse goes it will have to be today as most of the european transfer window shuts the night, and can you see charmless getting in a replacement before the tomorrow night,i carnt.
if cisse goes and noone comes in we are well and truly fooked.

      (Quote)

  24. Bit unlucky in the h2h league 47pts was 3rdbest but lost to an everton fan in bris’s league.

      (Quote)

  25. If they let Cisse go without a proven replacement it will prove that absolutely nothing has been learned.

      (Quote)

  26. Cisse needs to watch videos of the way Gomis holds the ball up and the way he creates chances for others. Nobody gets silver service and tap-ins handed to them on a plate, even at the top 8 sides. Cisse is a super sub and a player to bring on when the game is stretched. His agents **** is twitching because he’s now 30 and if he’s not scoring his value will drop further.

      (Quote)

  27. @djg

Gomis is a totally different player to Cisse, these this can’t be taught. Esp @30..

Gomis reminds me of drogba. Strong and skilful

      (Quote)

  28. I’m going to be really interested in how our summers recruitment fares against other clubs. The likes of Swansea, West Ham and WBA have all brought in good players and still a few more to come. WBA are apparently after Austin and West Ham are looking at bringing in 4.

Interesting to see where everyone sits tomorrow at 6pm.

      (Quote)

  29. Cisse will play now for 3 games at least; He’s got a nerve kicking up mind considering the ammount of matches he missed because of his own stupidity last season

      (Quote)

  30. If we don’t sign anyone else and nobody leaves, I think I has been a decent transfer window. If players like Gouffran and Williamson left, I wouldn’t be bothered either as it is moving on the deadwood. If we signed another four quality players next summer that go into the team, we will be on the way to a good side Imo. If we play one up front, then Mitro, Cisse and Ayoze gives enough options to pick from Imo. Cisse will get a chance now in 3 games, so cant complain if the manager still doesn’t think he’s first choice.

      (Quote)

  31. It would be suicidal to contemplate selling Cisse without having a ready made replacement lined up.
Passed history suggests that we are done on the buying side of things as we do not buy on deadline day.
Current stats showing that we have not had a shot on target in the EPL since the 1st half against Swansea 😯

      (Quote)

  32. So Mitrovic misses 2 PL games. Probably means we’ll have to play with Cisse. Unless Mac sees sense and puts Perez up there. Hope so as I can’t stand any more of the gormless one loping about up front. It’s like playing with 10 men.
    .
Something needs to be done about the card situation. It’s not just us either but the fact we’ve got something like 15 yellows and two reds in just 4 games is bloody ridiculous. I don’t remember a bad tackle in any of them. A yellow used to be a major event but now you’ve got half a team playing at about 80% in fear of being sent off. It’s ruining games.

      (Quote)

  33. Someone said Mitro had the same number of red cards as David Batty before. When David Batty was playing, a red cars was almost unheard of. There were 6 red cards in the premier league over the weekend. ❗

  34. The h2h league beginning to take shape, but it’s still too early for a meaningful league table. Next time maybe.

Only hitman’s army with maximum points. And 3 have no points: Shteves Shcitty, CC FC and Inter Yasista.

.@mohamedbouhafsi reports that there is no agreement between OL and #NUFC for Kemen. 12 hours to do so!

      (Quote)

  36. CC – Exactly, we’ve stuck with him through woeful patches of form and moments of utter stupidity, one game on the bench and we get this….his agent wants a pay day I suppose…We’d survive without him, and personally I think we’ve got more chance of playing a better style of football too..

      (Quote)

  37. HItman/Sharpy – can’t see this one happening. Anyway I know nowt about the guy. Any good? Age? Reports in Germany . . . uhmm.

      (Quote)

  38. Mail reporting that we have bid 7m for Lasogga, if so then Cisse and possibly Goofy on the way out.

      (Quote)

  39. Georgio – he’s another we have been linked with for some time mate. If reports are true that Goof is being sold £4.2m – then £7m for this lad could well have legs

      (Quote)

  40. Cisse has been poor over last 2-3 seasons it has to be said, if he had maintained the form of the first 6 months, we wouldn’t even have him mind, he would be at Chelski. Lassoga is an interesting one, he could compete with Mitro for the centre forward role. Seems to be around a one-in-three striker throughout his career, not too shabby. Maybe the ‘not wanted’ comment from Cisses’ agent has more substance than we think and the club have looked at selling him. If that is the case then fair enough, they’re entitled to say that.

  42. Would prefer Austin, but who ever plays up front they still need service and at the moment they aren’t getting any same as last season. No goals in 3 of our 4 games so far and no clean sheet in 3 of them either. I know we’ve been down to 10 in 2 but it’s still poor.
