Game On! Newcastle v Norwich

Game On at SJP
Game On at SJP
Newcastle go looking for a first league win of the campaign over Alex Neil’s newly promoted Norwich City side who so far have proved to be a tough nut to to crack.

You can watch all of the action like on Sky Sports or via any number of other streamed methods for which there will most likely a link or two posted in the ‘comments’ section below.

Of course the best place to be is inside St James’ Park but for those who can’t be then why not settle here and discuss the action as it happens? Yeah sounds good doesn’t it?

I posted a match preview last night which you can view by clicking here. It’s worth a look as it details and injury news for both sides, a history of the fixture and some of my thoughts ahead of the game. No doubt those thoughts will get proved wrong.

I shall try my best to get team news as soon as I can following their announcement but inevitably someone will always beat me to it so it’s worth again checking the comments if I’ve not managed to publish the sides.

Whatever happens after that is up to the players on the pitch and is left for us to dissect and discuss. Wouldn’t it be nice to dissect and discuss three points for a change?

Howay the lads!

  1. Well, if the team can’t get motivated for this one, after all the flak they’ve took, then there’s no hope for the future.

  2. Have to go for it with Mitro and Ayoze upfront if both fit surely? My biggest worry is that we don’t seem to be able to last for 90mins. No excuse for that after 8 games.

  3. Time for Sissoko and Coloccini to stand up and be counted. They have been the weak links so far in most games and Sissoko, especially, is highly regarded. We need a win today boys so grab your balls and get it done.

  4. Big change there for McClaren, dropping Anita and bringing in Tiote. Has to work. If we can’t win this one then it really is trouble. I have no confidence.

  5. Dubai – fills more of the goal mate. He won’t need to play sweeper anyway, what with Colo’s pace at the back… 😆

  6. Good play all round, but great from Sissoko for keeping his cool and actually passing to a player rather than taking a punt.

  7. Sissoko not tracking back then both CB’S ball watching nd completely miss the fact Mbokani is incoming… D’oh!

  8. we cannot put 5 passes together, and playing with no intensity, and are carrying players again. they are cheating the stripes. we are making the mighty norwich city look like barcelona.

  9. Christ.
Has Janmaat been TRAINED to not be on the left?
He’s been central and completely pointless for both their goals

  10. you have to feel sorry for mclaren at times.
janmaat, sissoko, dummet, tiote, all playing the game at slow motion. the two full backs have been absolutely abysmal

  11. why do we just seem to constantly stand off our opponents ? we need to get more in there faces !

  12. Sissoko needs to do more defensively, as always, but Jan has been ***** today. Sissoko has done really well going forward and is our main outlet, as usual, so to expect to see him covering for Janmaat all day is unrealistic really.

I guess the fact there is no Dutch squad place to fight for hasn’t helped matters, but we pay the wages man!

  13. What is it with Sissoko? Great assists for our goals, but totally at fault for the 2 Norwich goals … Aagghhh

  14. One thing’s certain – we won’t win 3-2. Defending’s poor at both ends. Janmaat doesn’t look fit to me.

  15. Defending their attacks – Midfield role should include box to box responsibility. Sissoko will know this; a player with fearful respect of his manager wouldn’t dare not to track back. The only excuse is fatigue at 75/80 mins. Must improve.

  16. this is us performing to the max. mitrovic, colback, janmaat, dummett, collocini, all bang average players, coached by a bang average coach. chasing shadows again today, what an absolute crock.

  17. Great goal from Mitrovic but we’ll be getting carved up at the back like a bunch of schoolkids for the next half hour.

You can’t buy in a load of players just because they might have a decent sell-on value – and expect a mediocre yes-man of a manager to make a team out of them.

  18. Fantastic match from Gini. Hopefully that puts to bed the idea that he was a poor buy or that it would take everyone a while to adjust.

  19. When was the last time we scored this many goals? Let alone after being in such **** poor form. Not even many from the strikers – but it goes to show, when you have real footballers up front unlike Cisse how much you can bring your midfield into the match and not be so one fucking dimensional.

  20. Totally brilliant.
Gini is proper class, Mitro works like a trooper.
Sunderland must be cacking it now, we go into the derby with utter confidence I reckon.

  21. If we could just replace Colo, Williamson and Dummett (and Thauvin) with decent player, I’d actually believe that someone at the toon finally wanted to win something.

  22. Finally seeing the best of Sissoko too.
If he can play like that every week he may just end up in the CL after all.

      (Quote)

  23. Well … I didn’t expect that result. Fantastic. About time. What a great game from Gini… Pity we only get 3 points for that.. Now let’s do it again next week…

      (Quote)

  24. Well its going too lift everone before we play the Scum , its the first time i have something too smile about in 5 weeks . Gini Has today proved too everyone who did not already know it , That hè is pure class.

      (Quote)

  25. And Eric Psychs wanted SM sacked before today’s game. I bet he feels foolish now. 😆 😆

  26. effective in front of goal, but what a flattering scoreline…

Our midfield is the root of the problem, 2 players who contribute little, Anita and Colback.
Colback was really poor today, though probably lacking match fitness.
Collo, Dummet, Janmaat, Mbemba all looked rusty. We couldn’t get near them in midfield and they bossed all the 50/50 challenges…

Still a massive way to go, but what a performance from Gini and Sissoko. Perez also put in a shift, boom boom goal from Mitro too…
