Game On! Newcastle v Norwich

Game On at SJP
Game On at SJP
Newcastle go looking for a first league win of the campaign over Alex Neil’s newly promoted Norwich City side who so far have proved to be a tough nut to to crack.

You can watch all of the action like on Sky Sports or via any number of other streamed methods for which there will most likely a link or two posted in the ‘comments’ section below.

Of course the best place to be is inside St James’ Park but for those who can’t be then why not settle here and discuss the action as it happens? Yeah sounds good doesn’t it?

I posted a match preview last night which you can view by clicking here. It’s worth a look as it details and injury news for both sides, a history of the fixture and some of my thoughts ahead of the game. No doubt those thoughts will get proved wrong.

I shall try my best to get team news as soon as I can following their announcement but inevitably someone will always beat me to it so it’s worth again checking the comments if I’ve not managed to publish the sides.

Whatever happens after that is up to the players on the pitch and is left for us to dissect and discuss. Wouldn’t it be nice to dissect and discuss three points for a change?

Howay the lads!

  1. More synonyms for Troy, the verb:

    – to fall out with your brother and drive him to Ed.

    – to finally stop using woo hoo and reality train.

    – to overuse acronyms a bit, but not that much until you confuse the ***** out of everybody. WTF does OMGMYPANTSAREONFIRE mean?

  2. Here are some more acronyms for The Troysta:

    SCUBA: self contained breathing apparatus
SNAFU: Situation Normal, All ****** Up
BOLLOCKS: Bland Oblong Locational Look-Out *****.

Will the pair of you just get a room. 😯
The facts are, you both know little but claim to know a lot. 🙄
I’m always right. You are always wrong. Deal with it and we can move on. 😉

It all depends on our performance against the Mackems whether I think SM should be sacked or not. What I will say, the Norwich game showed signs of progress and therefore, even if we get beat off the Mackems, providing it’s a close game, I would give him a few more games. We are only a point or two behind 4th bottom so we aren’t adrift.
I’m not irrational like you. Surely you’ve noticed? 😉

  5. @troy. Don’t be getting jealous. I’m sure Eric only has hope for you

Lol I claim to know a lot?? Since when like .
You’re the one that has a crystal ball a source and claims to be Steve wraiths bezzy 😆

I do believe you and Eric are doppelgangers. Have you ever met each other? You might get a shock if you did. Like two peas in a pod! Woo hoo hoo 😆

Troysta: judging by @154 your punctuation is coming along nicely. Mrs. Stavers deserves a gold star.

  8. Troysta @156: was that you paying homage to me asking if anybody had seen you and your brother in same room? You know what they say about imitation? Yes, it wasn’t just Walt Disney that did it and it is the sincerest form of flatulence.

  9. What the hell is happening to Swansea? They need to be playing us every week otherwise we will overtake them instead of Stoke.

  11. I will get back to my earlier point before Troy so rudely interrupted. The Mackems don’t really know where Black Cats came from and voted for it anyway because they couldn’t think of anything else. The town is like 800 years old and that is all they could come up with.

It is like they were all mashed one night and tried to come up with a name of a band that would be ***** anyway. Yeah, it is exactly like that.

  12. Looking at our next three games, I reckon we actually could turn it around. Stoke and Bournemouth have to be beatable. The mackems will win eventually as they will just out-fight a team who turn up in a lazy mood. I just hope that isn’t us. Fingers crossed that their luck will run out this time though, I mean that Defoe goal, he could have hit that 30 times and it would have gone into row Z. Hopefully new manager and our curse is over.

    Black Sabbath – taken
    Black and Tans – taken
Black Tea – I prefer Earl Grey and doesn’t he have a monument?
Black and Whites – too Newcastle
Black Cats it is then. And where did we pull that from. Yes, our arses.

  14. Mark @155: in truth, Troy does not admit to having a crystal ball. That belongs to his Baba Ganoush and he borrowed it to predict how many games Carver would last as the permanent manager of NUFC and whether 10 games is enough to judge McClaren.

Although, as he did point out, I said we should sack McClaren because I didn’t want him anyway. Is that really calling for his head or just saying I didn’t want him anyway? I don’t know 🙂 Where is my reset button / ctr-alt-del? At least he is not Carver although he sounded quite like him last week.

  18. anyway, how do we solve a problem like Janmaat ?
clearly he is NOT a right full back defender.
so do we need to replace him or help him ?
He seems to prefer bombing forwards and getting crosses in, to defending and I have to admit he seems better in that role.
    January cant come quick enough.

  19. Next sunday is now massive for both clubs.
Defeat for either team is unthinkable.
But then again a bore draw does neither team any good either.
I can see twatermole taking Gini out in the first 15 mins. Accidentally of course ❗ ❗ ❗ Yellow car, Job done.
But I really hope we put them bastards to the sword once and for all.

  21. I think the bulk of the pressure is on McClaren this weekend personally. As things stands Mc still only has 1 win in 9 so far this season, and our record against the Scum has been gash – that’s not down to Mc obviously but if he can’t turn that round then those who aren’t fully behind him will use it as another stick to beat him with.
Sunderland already looked like a fat Sam side at the weekend, but this is still only his 2nd game in charge, so he can say he still hasn’t had much time. They obviously won’t like getting beat at home, but they have bigger problems if that’s the case.

Derby games are huge anyway, but a win at the weekend could be a huge spring board for either side this season.

  22. I would hope the momentum is with us but I do worry that we don’t seem to get up for derbies these days. Mitro clearly will be and I just hope he can control his emotions on the day. We are due a point at least let alone a win!

I expect that win to have bred confidence so I will be very interested in how we actually play as to be honest I still haven’t really seen what our style of play is.

      (Quote)

  23. Imo we will need height in our defence as Sam will throw every ball he can into the box as he knows that is a big weakness in our team SM will be working on stopping crosses coming in its who gets in right will come out on top on the day

  24. Probably right about that Ice – having said that who’s good in the air for them? I can’t even name half their team. Fletcher? Defoe’s a big fella!

  26. So a fifth club knocks Shola back isn’t that strange, so the gravy train he rode at the toon has come to a end, about bloody time too imo

      (Quote)

  27. Toby – I think you’re right. Half the time he doesn’t even resemble a defender. The space he gave their wide man was unreal and it’s not the first time. It’s possible he’s a better CB than RB.

  28. Nice to see the lads get their first win. Not been on for a while as spent the last week or so at my Dads bedside . Sadly Dad passed away on Friday evening just two days after his 95th birthday. I guess he just couldn’t go on after mum passed in may bless him, he just gave up on living no matter what we did to occupy his days and mind. I’m happy he is with mum now anyway.

      (Quote)

  29. Kim, sorry for your loss. Never easy losing a parent but at 95 at least you know he had one hell of an innings!

      (Quote)

  30. Cheers, lads. Yeah his was a life very well lived indeed, it’s only really the last 8 years where he lost a lot of independence but at least he had mum. When she died in may a light went out in his eyes and nothing could bring him back to us, he just gave up on living . Their 67th wedding anniversary is the 30th of this month and now he’s gone it means they will never of spent an anniversary apart .

      (Quote)

  31. My deepest condolences to you Kim.
It’s better to look at his passing in a positive way as you are doing.
    Keep your spirits up mate.

Cheers for that link about Pards. Maybe one day they’ll have a statue of me and Pards, side by side, where the likes of Psychs and Betsy bow and beg forgiveness.

  34. Eric, yeah been at Dads and also Lew and I have been and still are ill tbh, gonna try and see my GP on Monday as I’m pretty under the weather. Busy sorting arrangements and Dads flat at the moment, funeral isn’t until the 4th of November cause Rev moss is in spain.

      (Quote)

  35. Kimtoon: I don’t know how to say this politely. But watch out for those funeral directors. How do I say it? They know that people are at their lowest ebb and then try to sell a fancy casket to get more commission. There, I said it.

  36. Sorry about your dad Kimtoon lass. It sounds like it was a life well lived though. I hope things go well for you in the future. Hard times for you right now but try to keep a positive view. It’s what helps me most. All the best.

  37. Eric, He had a funeral plan so no big surprises just £600 extra for cost of cremation and doc and ministers fees.

  38. G2, Cheers, yeah both in the space of 5 months is a bit tough but they are together now and there is comfort in that.

  39. Sorry to read of your sad loss Kim.
I would like to get to 95 years old. but I will probably have to live a lot longer than that to see Newcastle win another trophy.
Hope you and Lew get over your illness soon.

  40. Thrilled we scored 6, but it has to be the most unconvincing 6-2 win in history. Still, you gotta start somewhere. I’d be happy enough for another unconvincing 6-2 win this weekend.

  41. Super nervous for the Derby already, anyone else on edge a bit too early!? Also just thought i’d give everyone a quick update as Bris seems to slink away when he doesn’t do well – I’m still top of the blog’s fantasy league. Both leagues in fact.

    😛

  42. Some close games in the h2h league. Having Gini in your team gave you a boost.

A small gap appearing at the top of the table.

    1 Alestars 22
    2 Born Winner FC 21
3 Macas Pony and Trap 19
    4 Balotellitubbies 18
    5 Puff Puff Pass 18
    6 He’s called WYNALDUM 18
    7 Newbriscastle Roar 18
    8 Dubai Toon United 15 (437)
    8 Natalie Sawyer Fan 15 (437)

At the bottom it looks like CCFC win the surrender monkey award. What is it with these guys who want to ruin a game for everybody else because, boo hoo, they didn’t win a few games? Didn’t you get out of childhood, mate? Glad I don’t have to rely on you for a life and death situation.

    Bottom dwellers:

    18 Shteves Shcitty 6
    19 Aussie Mags 6
    20 CC’s Surrender Monkeys 3

  43. to be honest, there is far too much positivity flying about, solely on one mad result.
But I am not getting carried away just yet.
Remember, this is only our 2nd win in 2015.
I’d prepare for yet another kick in the knackers on sunday.
Sorry to be defeatist, but the reality is our defence is utterly hopeless.
But we live in hope I guess. (It’s a funny old game after all)

  44. After looking up The Black Cats I have Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights on the brain. The problem is that it only lasts about 1 and a half minutes before it fizzles. As Mrs. Troy says to him on his good days.

  45. Wow! 😆
Too much positivity around says Betsy Violet. 😆
Why be positive when we’ve just won 6-2 ? 🙄
Nobody is getting carried away Betsy. They are just enjoying the moment. Now get back to darning your socks or finish off your proggy mat. 😉

  47. Bris would have done better if I had not looked at Stirling being pulled of before the break and replaced him with Payet. Now I’ve got Chadli to deal with .

      (Quote)

  48. Bootsy – do you not rate Chancel at least? He looks a solid defender to me. He shouldn’t be asked to do it alone, which he seems to be, but I hate to think what we’d be like with anyone else in there with Colo so far this season.

      (Quote)

  49. Yeah that was me Troysta. I could educate you on the neighbourhoods of Chicago but there wouldn’t be any point since you don’t have a passport.

      (Quote)

  50. Eric – Troy will have lots of passports 😛

Condolences Kim. Keep your chin up!

Don’t know what to say about our defence. It would improve with a decent DM in front of them. That should be the first buy in Jan along with a replacement for Colo.

      (Quote)

  51. Newkie – anyone who doesn’t rate Mbemba does not understand what makes a good defender!. I’m not saying he’s the finished article by any means, but to come in and settle into the PL the way he has – aged just 20 and with a plank like Colo next to him has been brilliant.
Sadly for him the other 3 newbies have probably been talked about more because they are forwards. But I think we have a real quality CB in that lad.

Kim – sorry to hear about your loss, but I like your attitude that he’s now back pestering your mum 😉

      (Quote)

  52. Agree Sharpy – I’m impressed by Mbemba. He has a great attitude. The full backs worry me more than Colo.

      (Quote)

  53. Yes Newkie of course I like the look of CMb but he has not had long to settle and get used to the pace of the EPL and has been made to look gash by those around him. There is a whole load of pressure heaped up on his shoulders when there shouldn’t be and who do we have to help him out ? Oh Williamson Taylor and the hopeless curly one. The RB is often awol and LB is a yyoungster also.
It’s no wonder we ship so many goals.

      (Quote)

  54. Twoy – of course enjoy the win. But now on the other blog, near 70% of voters think we will beat the mackems. Most of his polls have gone the other way.
    This after just one win.
Hopefully maca is right and our sEason has now started for real.
