Rafa Seems Very Unhappy – Have Our Worst Fears Been Realised?

As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez seems to be very unhappy with those above him, following a disappointing draw at home to QPR.

After the game, Benitez was asked about Newcastle’s lack of action in the January transfer window, and the Spaniard said: “I can’t change things now so I have to concentrate on bringing the best from my players.”

“We knew what we needed and we knew what we have so we have to bring the best from the players we have.

However, Benitez did stop to say that he was happy with his current players, adding: “I am happy with them.

“We have to try to maintain the same level we had in the second half.”

Then when he was asked if could give a reason as to why the club did not sign anyone, he simply said: “No, because I don’t know.”

“I said before I am disappointed but I have to concentrate on the players we have and try to improve them.”

  1. Shearer and Rafa both have toon relegations on their CV’s.
Rafa has the chance to put it right, big Al didn’t.

  3. Big Al had no time to save us and in truth neither did Rafa, but as you say at least Rafa gets a second bite of the cherry.
Thought he was very smart in his presser yesterday, he won’t quit but we cannot make the same mistakes. Warning shot deservedly so from Rafa but will the club listen ?

  4. there were a few boos v QPR …. I HATE IT!

a stupid own goal and Rafa & the team get booed.. Cringe!!

  5. Kim, I have always said that the next window is the make or break one.. Lee pretty much handed Rafa a squad to get out of the championship with a number of incoming players that could handle the division well. He will need to do the same if we are promoted although it will be more about survival and competing in the PL. Time will tell.

Agree, still hoping if we go up that Ashley will sell up, I don’t see how he can derive any pleasure in owning us when the vast majority of fans can’t stand him. It must be soul destroying , that’s if he has a soul 👿

  7. I’ve never once boo’d the team as I think it’s totally counter productive. In my opinion that’s why blogs like this are good. People can let their anger out here instead of the game.

Anyway, Jawdee, if you’ve only just sussed me out then you’re slower than I thought.

The huffy one skirted over my statement that we should be eternally grateful to toot and ploot for getting Rafa in. I can also understand his frustration that I have him sussed…
Now…what Rafa does next is his business. ffs only clubs like Arsenal and Man United have managers who reign longer than 10 years, the majority of managers last 5 years…look at Ranieri, probably gonna get fired havin won the league last year.
football is transient, and there are loads of radgie owners about..

Only Charnley and Ashley know what really happened in the transfer negotiations, everything else is pure speculation. Rafa actually came out and made a statement to reassure the fans.
If we need to get used to a life after Rafa so be it. Time will show.

  9. Stuart79, I can understand your frustration at toot and ploot, and also me sussing you out.

We need to batten down the hatches and hope our lucratively paid Champions League winning manager can get our listless group of millionaires promoted into the big league.

Everything else toon wise is irrelevant, promotion at all costs. Signing 6 diddy’s in January who won’t strengthen the first team won’t help anyone.

Rafa needs to start earning his salary, though he seems to have done a canny job so far.
Pity the home fans can’t get behind the team, bunch of whingeing wasters.

Can’t imagine the toon fans booing McLaren though. Dislike yes, but Parewesque booing…no..

  11. Surprised how shaky our defending has come, very un-Rafa like.
Lascelles struggling to handle the pressure, does Rafa pull him out briefly out of the spotlight to allow him to recover, or leave him in there to work his own way through it ? At the same time i don’t rate Lascelles.

    Derby are flying under SM

We should never of hired SM, hated him from the off…

Funny though, when SM was here everything the club did was blamed on SM.. poor transfer windows…SM’s fault, defeats SM’s fault..

Rafas team play poorly and its the teams fault, Rafa isnt on the pitch… funny that.. 🙂

He realises that he won’t have things all his own way on this blog, but at the end of the day it’s good to have him back, albeit seldomly.
Wouldn’t say I was being negative, more realistic. I saw nothing in midweek to convince me that we will beat Derby today.

I thought we looked more dangerous when Gouffron moved up front v QPR, curious to see which team Rafa puts out.

  16. so this whole shitty article written regarding Rafas future is becoming clearer everyday

Fat Sam said “Never. Not ever,’ said Allardyce, when asked at if Townsend came close to leaving in January.

‘The only interest was a loan from Newcastle which was never going to happen. His long term future is with Palace.’

So we never did try and buy him, So Ashley never baulked at the fee of 14mil, we offered a loan which was rejected.. pmsl talk about an over-reaction..

Rafa will not be happy but i’m sure Charnley tried all day to get him on loan which Sam didnt want..

Well if Fat sam is correct then it begs the question , why did we **** around all window up to deadline day trying to loan a player that they had no intention of loaning or letting go !?
That’s quite damning on Charnley & co if true and shouldn’t Rafa of been made aware of these facts.

  20. It’s as clear as mud, yesterday it was down to Andros’s wage demands and on deadline day Keith Downie @Sky sports reported that he was all set to announce the move at 4pm when he was informed the ‘ goalpost had been moved ‘ ! So what exactly is the truth here. We don’t know and Rafa certainly doesn’t appear to know 🙄 Shambolic carry on.

For what it’s worth, this could just be Sam keeping a player happy and not thinking he wasn’t wanted. Happy ship and all that like. If Sam hadn’t been back with incomings I am pretty sure Andros would be gone to raise funds. That he was able to stick the middle finger at us and Rafa must of made the sad ****s day.

Ice – looks a tidy finisher, but will he get developed properly – and then the chance in the first team squad. That’s always been the problem with our ‘promising’ youngsters – seems to be the case with Armstrong at the moment as well.

  32. On NewsNow there are so many sites now that use misleading click-bait headlines. It used to be the odd one but it’s virtually all of the top rated articles now. The one quoting Freddy Shepherd for example. I go on there less these days as most of the headlines are deliberately misquoting people for clicks. NewsNow could do with having a good purge of some of the serial offenders. They will start to lose credibility the longer it goes on, although I understand that they are only a search engine.

We always made sure we delivered to the blokes without kids first. In return they would give us the glossy posters of the players from inside the paper – which we then went on to sell to our mates at school ?.
We always made a tidy packet on Xmas tips too (which generally went towards a new pair of puma kings).

When we were old enough to start drinking in Winlaton (the following year ?), we’d go out with a fiver and come back shitfaced. Every bar we’d go in would be ‘alright young un, here John, get this lad whatever he’s drinking, he delivers my Pink’.
We got **** off nobody ?.
