Southampton will make a £30m bid for Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer according to an ‘exclusive’ from the Daily Express’ Tony Banks.
The former Newcastle United striker has scored 11 goals for Fulham this season but has been unable to keep the Cottagers up – and looks unlikely to spend next season in the Championship.
Both Crystal Palace and Brighton have been linked with summer bids for the 24-year-old, but the Express claim that Southampton are ready to pay Fulham’s £30m asking price.
He’s only managed 3 goals since the turn of the year, with him struggling to find the next on a regular basis since opening the season with 5 goals in his first 6 games, however it seems several clubs see real potential in the striker.
Play to his strengths and he’s a real handful and someone capable of playing at Premier League level, but it’s fair to say Rafa got it spot on last summer when replacing him with Salomon Rondon.
We may be left regretting the fact we didn’t sign the Venezuelan on a permanent deal, but he’s transformed our attack and looked far more comfortable in Rafa’s counter-attacking system than Mitrovic ever could.
