We know Danny Mills isn’t the sharpest tool in the draw, but his latest take on Steve Bruce’s appointment and Newcastle United fans is incredible – even by his low standards.
Firstly (see clip below), Mills claims Bruce is a ‘safe’ appointment and the sort of manager we need right now.
Is he, Danny? He’s been an average Championship manager over the past few years, he’s not popular with fans and THIS is our Rafa Benitez replacement.
Secondly, Mills questions the fans ‘expectations’, claiming we think we think we have a ‘divine right’ to be in the top 6 and need to lower our demands.
Incredible. We’re not asking for the world Danny – we’re asking for an owner that cares and to see our club at least TRY to compete – not sack off our world class manager, our two top scorers and fail to sign a SINGLE player all summer (all while we await an ounce of communication regarding a takeover and new manager).
Here’s what he’s had to say during his shameless appearance on talkSPORT today:
The Bruce comments are laughable but to be expected given he has ‘friends’ in the media, but it’s the second bit about our alleged expectations that annoys me.
It’s incredibly patronising and does not come close to representing the true demands of your every day Newcastle United fan.
We just want a football club that at least makes an effort to compete. An owner who’s more interested in signing a few good players, not cashing in on our biggest assets. A team that puts in 110% and gives us a reason to enjoy Saturday afternoon’s at St James’ Park, not an asset stripped 11 which must be questioning whether they should’ve found another club this summer. A manager who is at least capable, not a Championship manager who is not good enough at Premier League level – never mind fit to replace Rafa Benitez.
Thankfully, some people ‘get it’, with both Jake Humphrey and Darren Huckerby shooting down Mills’ claims:
