Newcastle handed chance to sign La Liga flop in January – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid flop Nikola Kalinic.

This comes from Italian outlet Il Corriere, who claim we are now in the running to sign the striker after already turning down loan offers from Verona and Genoa this month.

Kalinic, 31, is currently on-loan with Serie A giants Roma, but looks likely to secure a move elsewhere during the January transfer window, with him struggling to make an impact in Rome – failing to score in any of his 6 appearances this season.

The Croatian international completed a £14m move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2018, leaving AC Milan, however he’s failed to make any real impact in Spain, scoring 4 goals in 24 appearances for the La Liga side.

You may remember him from his spell in England with Blackburn, which saw him bag 13 goals and 5 assists in 53 appearances for Blackburn, but he’s since endured uninspiring spells in Italy and Spain and is getting on at 31, making you wonder if he really is the answer to our goalscoring woes.

A new name linked, but a deal that doesn’t seem all that appealing..
