George Caulkin speaks out after Sky Sports reveal takeover ‘agreement’ & sale price

Sky Sports have now confirmed that an ‘agreement in principle‘ has now been reached between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s PCP Partners over the sale of Newcastle United.

As Keith Downie states below, it’s a ‘cash deal’ which is ‘closer to £300m than £350m’, with it expected to be announced formally once the Premier League’s Owners and Directors test goes through and funds are transferred as a result.

In light of this, George Caulkin – one of the region’s most reliabe reporters and the man who saw proof of Staveley’s three previous bids – has also spoken out.

Responding to a NUFC fan on Twitter below, he’s suggested we could yet hear from Staveley or the club to confirm reports of an agreement – stating this is something they’re now in a position to do and a step they’ve already discussed (highlighting how close this really is to being official!).

That said, he also insists that they could instead decide to wait until Premier League approval is granted before speaking out, but, either way, it now seems like this deal may be a matter of when, not if.

Don’t get your cans out just yet – but make sure they’re chilling in the fridge!

We’ve got everything crossed. It’s looking good..

  1. Hope this is really happening as we have had our own virus on Tyneside for the last thirteen years.
