Newcastle planning double move for relegated duo if Aston Villa & Norwich both go down?

According to reports, Newcastle could cherry pick two of Norwich and Aston Villa’s best players if the Villains join the Canaries in the Championship next season.

North-East reporter Ian Murtagh claims Bruce is ‘desperate’ to raid former club Aston Villa of energetic midfielder John McGinn should the Midlanders be relegated this season, saying he’s been identified as his ‘top target’.

It was Bruce who initially signed McGinn from Hibernian for a measly £2m back in 2018, in a move that he has since labelled his ‘best signing ever.’

The Scotland international is still just 25-years-old and has impressed this season despite his side’s obvious lack of form, so it’s fair to say we won’t be the only club in the race to sign him should these reports be true.

Then to the next link, Norwich’s Todd Cantwell, another player who has stood out in poor side this season.

This comes from The Mail, who claim we’ve made our interest known despite uncertainty surrounding the potential Saudi takeover.

They report that Cantwell has also attracted interest from Leicester and also has admirers at Manchester City, highlighting how much he’s impressed in a side sat at the foot of the table.

The old myth that signing players considered ‘relegation fodder’ has been exposed in recent seasons, with the likes of Wijnaldum (Newcastle), Maguire (Hull) and Robertson (Hull) doing brilliantly at their respective clubs following our own drop to the Championship in 2016.

Even Salomon Rondon, a player we signed from a relegated West Brom side yet someone who went on to prove he was every bit good enough for Premier League football!
