Newcastle eyeing summer deal for Bundesliga star despite January U-turn – Report

The Mirror report that Newcastle United haven’t given up on a move to bring Ozan Kabak to St James’ Park.

As reported by the BBC on deadline day, the club believed they’d won the race to land the Schalke centre-back on loan – only for Liverpool to hijack the move and bring him to Merseyside to help solve their defensive crisis!

They have an option to sign him for £18m at the end of the season, however The Mirror claim that we will reignite our interest in the highly-rated Turkish international should Jurgen Klopp opt against keeping the 20-year-old.

It’s VERY early days, but his start to life at Liverpool hasn’t gone to plan, with him involved in a disastrous mix up with Alisson in their 3-1 defeat at Leicester over the weekend.

As you can see below, the pair collided during the Reds’ second half collapse at the King Power Stadium, allowing Jamie Vardy to put the ball into an empty net to give Leicester the lead:

Considering we’ve signed from Schalke before (Bentaleb) and clearly held serious interest in Kabak last month, we may well be first in line.

One to watch, but worth noting that our stance may change if the 20-year-old doesn’t improve on his dodgy Premier League debut!
