Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s – Amanda Staveley’s husband – has revealed his vision for running a football club following the collapse of the European Super League.
In a tweet that quotes the great Sir Bobby Robson, the PCP partner and member of the Newcastle United takeover consortium believes a ‘huge lesson’ can be learnt from events over the past 48 hours, insisting that football is all about fans.
He accepts that owning a football club is a ‘tough job’ and one that will feature mistakes along the way, but believes that supporters must come first – believing money making and increasing the value of a club should never jeopardise this.
Here’s what he’s had to say, with his powerful message also including some famous words from the late, great Sir Bobby:
He’s certainly said all the right things since the Saudi takeover collapsed last year – refusing to give up, engaging with fans and cheering on our results from afar – however it remains to be seen if this £300m deal can be resurrected.
Let’s hope the Premier League soften their stance. After all, they may no longer feel quite so obliged to protect the ‘big six’ who clearly made efforts to block this deal 12 months ago!
