NUFC star tells Sky Sports he’s committed to the club despite dubious comment & agent talk

Miguel Almiron insists that previous comments suggesting he was eyeing a move away had been taken out of context, with him telling Sky Sports he is “very happy” on Tyneside.

The Paraguayan international spoke to press in his home country back in November, and said that he wishes to play for a team that “fights more”.

His agent has also been vocal about a move away – talking up a potential move to Atletico Madrid – leading Steve Bruce to call him a “two-bob amateur” at the back end of last year.

Here is what Almiron has said to Sky Sports when quizzed about his future:

“What I was speaking about has been wrongly interpreted.

“At no point was I suggesting I wanted to play for another team.

“As I’ve been saying, I’m very happy in Newcastle and all I’m thinking about is helping the team achieve its goals of improving.”

Hearing news from the horse’s mouth rather than a third party is the way it should be in football.

Unfortunately, agents have a stranglehold on the modern game and often plague the sport with unnecessary comments that are driven by nothing but self-interest.

Hopefully Miggy can kick on next season and find a level of consistency that can help us climb the table.
