Toon suffer new transfer blow as loan target opts to join Premier League rivals over NUFC – Report

Conor Gallagher looks set to join Crystal Palace on loan, with Tom Barclay confirming this morning that he’s opted for Selhurst Park over St James’ Park.

This is another transfer blow for Steve Bruce, as he’s been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside and appeared to be one of our top midfield targets.

Leeds United were also credited with an interest, but he has chosen to stay in London. It is a very shrewd pick up for Crystal Palace and continues their impressive summer.

Many thought Palace would struggle this season, but their summer transfer business is giving them a great chance of progression under Patrick Vieira. This is a concern and heightens the need for us to sign some players.

Gallagher would have been a good signing and he was a player liked by Bruce. However, we are limited to two Premier League domestic loans.

It looks like our priorities are Axel Tuanzebe and Joe Willock, so it’s worth noting that we couldn’t sign Gallagher on loan as well.

Perhaps it was Newcastle that pulled out of the deal with Chelsea, rather than the player choosing Palace?

Who knows, but it is now absolutely crucial that we clinch these two deals.

  1. Hardly a surprise.

If they have other options in London young players from the London clubs are not going to come up North. We got Willock at the last minute but he won’t be coming back, having shown what he can do.

The best we’ll get is Man U or Liverpool youngsters.
