Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 at Burnley yesterday, with the club revealing that a pre-season friendly took place at Turf Moor yesterday afternoon.
Joelinton hit the post in the first half and tested the keeper moments later after some good work down the left, however the game was settled by a 70th minute strike from Jay Rodriguez (watch highlights here).
On the plus side, Jonjo Shelvey stepped up his recovery from a calf injury to make his first pre-season appearance of the summer, coming on for the final 30 minutes of this one.
Elsewhere, U23 talent is believed to have impressed on his first start for the club, with Mark Gillespie also making a few impressive stops in the second half.
That said, there was several first-team players absent once again, with Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow, Paul Dummett, Javier Manquillo and Elliot Anderson all failing to feature.
