Former West Ham striker and football pundit Frank McAvennie believes it’s now a matter of time until Steve Bruce is sacked.
He feels the NUFC can not afford to go into the international break on the back of FOUR straight defeats, predicting there’ll be “hell on” at St James’ Park if we lose to Southampton today.
With us struggling to make inroads in the transfer market, suffering defeats in our opening two league games – conceding six in the process – and crashing out of the Carabao Cup to Burnley in midweek, McAvennie feels Bruce won’t survive much longer now fans are back.
He also points out that Bruce “doesn’t help himself” with the “daft things” he says when speaking to the press. Just look at his post-match interview in midweek, seeing him claim that we “didn’t lose on the night”…minutes after being beaten by Burnley.
Here’s what the Scot has had to say ahead of today’s game when speaking to Football Insider:
“They are going to sack Bruce soon after the latest events.
“It’s going to happen but that won’t change anything. There might be a change at the start.
“The club needs an overhaul, how many times has it been said?
“Bruce doesn’t help himself, does he? He’s under pressure, I get that, but he comes out with some daft things.
“That’s probably just him giving a bit back because he gets so much abuse.
“It’s been a really bad start for them and they need that first win to come soon.
“If they go into the international break with no points there will be hell on.”
For what it’s worth, the BBC’s Mark Lawrenson is backing us to come away 2-1 winners in this one.
For Steve Bruce’s sake, let’s hope he’s got that one bang on come 5pm today!
for our sake, i hope we lose, and bruce gets fired before its too late!!!

As usual Ashley has sat down with Charnley and decided there will be three worse teams than the one we have. Get on with it.

MD Charmless doesn’t want a Manager to ask questions = they will keep Numpty & he’s not going to walk away from his 30 pieces of silver payoff for destroying the club, players, and leaving us with rubbish on the bench
He’s a complete fool that simply isn’t a MANAGER and he’s cheap!
Say’s he’s a Newcastle Fan = should be in the stands and nowhere near the dugout
