Garth Crooks names NUFC duo in Premier League team of the week after 1-0 win vs Burnley

BBC Pundit Garth Crooks has picked Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles in his Premier League team of the week.

Wilson’s pivotal goal was enough to see out a crucial victory for us against Burnley on Saturday, his sixth this season in 11 outings.

This earned his a spot up front in Crooks’ line-up, who said: “Callum Wilson’s finish, under such immense pressure for the Magpies it was simply superb.

“Newcastle look like they might have a chance under Howe.”

Lascelles’ inclusion in Eddie Howe’s line-up raised eyebrows on Saturday, with supporters questioning why Federico Fernandez – who put in a man of the match performance against Norwich just days earlier – had been omitted from the side.

His performance was one worthy of a Newcastle captain, however, as he justified his selection by keeping a bullish Burnley frontline at bay with a host of importance clearances and a dominant display in the air.

This didn’t go unnoticed by Crooks, who said this about our skipper:

Newcastle United’s victory over Burnley was as much about the clean sheet as it was about the 1-0 score line.

“It was Jamaal Lascelles’ leadership on the field that kept cool heads in a very tense and anxious atmosphere.”
