The statisticians at FiveThirtyEight believe Newcastle United are still likely to go down as things stand, backing us the end the season in 19th.
Their latest projected Premier League table has us ending the season in second bottom on 31 points, with them feeling we have a 68% chance of relegation as things stand.
This comes after Eddie Howe delivered our first win of the 2021/22 season last weekend, seeing us beat Burnley 1-0 at St James’ Park.
Elsewhere, they back Norwich to finish bottom of the pile (30 points) and believe Burnley (36 points) will end the season 18th, with Watford, Leeds and Brentford all escaping the drop.
Here’s how they see the bottom half of the Premier League panning out come next May:
Bottom half: 11th – 20th
At the other end of the table, FiveThirtyEight reckon Man City will be champions, with West Ham qualifying for the Champions League in fourth:
Top half: 1st – 10th
