Newcastle have lined up Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico as a possible alternative to Lucas Digne, should a move for the Everton left-back fail to materialise.
This is according to The Mail, who claim that Chelsea are currently the club ‘most likely’ to sign the Frenchman – despite the fact we tabled a £22.5m play-plus-cash bid (involving Sean Longstaff) last night.
West Ham are also said to be in talks over a move for Digne, however it’s feared the 28-year-old’s £100,000 a week wage demands could prove to be an issue for the Hammers.
As for Tagliafico, this isn’t the first time he’s been linked with a move to St James’ Park.
The Argentinian international – who was believed to be a target of Rafa Benitez’s during the Spaniard’s time on Tyneside – has been a key player at Ajax over the years, however the 29-year-old has recently lost his place in Erik ten Hag’s side.
If Digne really isn’t sold on a move to Tyneside and prefers to join a London club, a move for the experienced Tagliafico could be a smart one.
The former Independiente star has racked up 36 caps for his country and has even captained Argentina on several occasions in Lionel Messi’s absence.
