Trippier sends must-read message to NUFC fans & reveals truth behind £12m move to Tyneside

Kieran Trippier has sent a brilliant message to Newcastle United fans after sealing a £12m move this morning, saying he’ll never shy away from any battles and “fight for everything” to ensure we stay up this season.

The England international has also explained why he jumped at the chance to join the club, stating that the exciting project at St James’ Park and his positive relationship with Eddie Howe were big factors.

He’s also revealed that it was a move that made sense for both him and his family, revealing that his wife can’t wait to be back after a few years out in Spain.

Here’s what the 31-year-old told NUFC TV in his first official interview for the club, starting with his message to Newcastle fans:

“I fight for everything.

“I’ll be fighting for Newcastle now.

“I know the position that they’re in, but I want to be here.

“I want to help the team on and off the pitch with my experience as well to climb up the table.

I’m not shy to get in a battle.”

“I want to do as best as I can for the club, the fans, the owners and everyone involved with Newcastle United.

“From now I will give 110% on the training field and put that into the matches.”

Trippier then had this to say when asked what convinced him to swap Spain for St James’ Park:

“I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club.

“I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.

“I have huge respect for the gaffer.

“He brought me from Man City on loan and then signed me permanently [for Burnley] in the January window, so I know what he demands on the training field and on the pitch.

“He was excited for me to come to Newcastle and I was very excited to join him again for the second time.

“You look at the club, the fan base…it’s a huge club.

“And the project that’s happening now…it’s very exciting, and that’s another reason why I came here.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and my family.

“I love challenges. I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.

“I spoke to Atletico about January if anything became available in January, and Newcastle became available.

“I have personal reasons with my family and it was most important that they were happy and settled with the decision.

“My wife is delighted. She can’t wait to come back from Madrid and live with me here.”

“I also knew the players and staff. It made it easy for me.”
