Newcastle plan to pip relegation rivals to Seko Fofana & Toon target left out of squad

According to reports in France, Newcastle United are showing serious interest in a January move for Lens star Seko Fofana.

This comes from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who reports that ourselves, Leeds and Burnley are all big admirers of the Ivory Coast international; but insists that Newcastle United have shown the most desire to bring him to the Premier League this month.

The 26-year-old has been one of the top performing players in Ligue 1 this season, with some in France believing he is currently the best midfielder in the division.

His form has Lens pushing to qualify for Europe this season, as they’re currently in 6th place and just one point away from the top four, but the good news for Newcastle is that he has NOT gone to the African Cup of Nations, meaning he’d be available to play immediately should we make a move.

Elsewhere, reported Toon target Todd Cantwell was left out of Norwich’s squad for their Wednesday night trip to West Ham, which they went on to lose 2-0 to remain rock bottom of the table.

Canaries boss Dean Smith said that he would return to training this week and be back in the squad for this game, raising questions about his future at the club now he’s missed out entirely once again.

This comes after The Telegraph confirmed last week that we’d held talks with Norwich over a potential January move for the attacking midfielder, with Chief Correspondent Jason Burt even suggesting that he could become our second signing of the window.

  1. Fofana is a very good player and would be welcome at NUFC but to make a statement of intent, Amadou Haidara, even at 80 mil looks a bargain and would really shake up the rest of the EPL. Come on, we’re the richest club in the world. I agree that Wood can only help us and hinder Burnley in the same way that Cantwell will upset Norwich but come on we’re supposedly in the big league now so let’s get after some top players
