Newcastle in talks to sign Liverpool outcast on loan with obligation to buy – Report

Newcastle United are attempting to sign Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, according to The Mail.

With us pushing to bring in a couple of new centre-backs before next Monday’s 11pm deadline, they report that we are looking to agree a loan deal for Phillips.

Liverpool have rejected a £7m offer from Watford already this month, while PSV have failed with a recent loan bid, however it’s said that we are keen to strike a temporary deal that includes an obligation to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent transfer this summer if we stay up.

It’s believed that Liverpool are willing to sell the 6ft 3′ defender if an offer of around ‘£10-£15m’ arrives, so it remains to be seen if a loan-to-buy deal is something they’d consider.

Phillips made 20 appearances for the Reds last season and performed admirably while the likes of Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip were out injured, however he’s failed to make a single Premier League appearance all season now all three are fit again, with the arrival of Ibrihima Konate also pushing him further down the pecking order.

With a move for Diego Carlos appearing to be off (according to Sky Sports), let’s hope Phillips is one of several centre-back targets we are now looking at.
