Some huge breaking news has emerged from Sky Sports in the last few moments concerning our ambitious bid to sign Bruno Guimaraes.
As revealed by by Keith Downie, Newcastle have now agreed a fee ‘in the region of £30m’ with Lyon to bring the highly-rated midfielder to St James’ Park.
He also reports that the 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in his homeland – where he is currently on international duty with Brazil – at some point today.
This would be a huge coup for the club and the sort of top midfielder we have been lacking ever since Yohan Cabaye’s exit, with Guimaraes hard working, tenacious and technically brilliant.
He had received serious interest from the likes of Juventus and Arsenal – we’ll have to hope neither make late moves – however it seems like we have beaten both to a deal for the Lyon playmaker.
The Athletic have also confirmed this story, with David Ornstein adding that the player himself is keen to complete a move to Newcastle.

According to Lyon, nothing has been decided or agreed by them.

Not sure why you’ve come on here shooting the messenger, Mike.
Are we now expected to ignore it when Sky Sports report that we’ve agreed a fee / expect him to undergo a medical? 🙄
