Newcastle now hoping to sign another Lille star alongside Sven Botman this summer – Report

According to reports in Italy, Inter Milan will face competition from Newcastle United in their bid to sign Lille striker Jonathan David this summer.

This comes from TuttoMercato, who say their sources in France claim Newcastle and Arsenal have joined the Italian giants and Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign the highly-rated Canadian.

If true, it seems Sven Botman may not be the only Lille star we are looking to bring in – providing we stay up – as the same outlet reports that we’re set to go head to head with AC Milan for the Dutch defender.

As for David, the 22-year-old has scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side this season, with three of those coming in seven Champions League appearances across 2021/22.

Newcastle were first linked with a move for David back in the summer of 2020 – back when he was playing for Belgian giants KAA Gent – and talk of a move to Tyneside hasn’t gone away since he secured a move to Lille.

Speaking to the French press just a few days ago, here’s what the £45m-rated forward said about his future – doing little to play down a potential move to the Premier League:

“I’m under contract at LOSC. The most important thing for me is to finish the season as well as possible.

“What happens after that, we will see.

“The Premier League attracts everyone. It is the most competitive league in the world. It is a really good league.”
