It’s been a strange week when it comes to the whereabouts of Allan Saint-Maximin.
The Frenchman didn’t travel to London last weekend for our 1-1 draw, with Eddie Howe stating after the match that he only just missed out on the game due to a “kick on his calf” in that 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
So, it sounded like he’d be back in training this week and fine for Brentford on Saturday, however he’s been missing from the club’s latest training photos and spotted doing individual sessions in the gym instead.
No one was quite sure just where he was, however it’s now emerged that the 24-year-old is in Monaco with sports physiotherapist Alexandre Baccili.
Baccili posted the following picture (from France) on his Instagram page earlier today, which included the worrying caption “Rehab in progress.” See the post for yourself below:
This comes less than 24 hours after an official update from Newcastle United stated we ‘remained hopeful’ that the winger would be fine for Saturday’s game – despite the fact he did not train with the group at the club’s Benton base on Wednesday.
However, if he’s in the middle of rehab, in France and still not training with the team less than 48 hours before kick off, it’s starting to feel highly unlikely that he features.
Is this calf injury more serious than Howe first anticipated? If not, why is he still in Monaco and when is he expected to return given the squad will be travelling down the London tomorrow.
Hopefully Eddie Howe can deliver a clear and positive update on ASM when he speaks to the press tomorrow morning, as we could really do with our difference maker in another huge game at the bottom.
