Steve Bruce in talks to sign ex-NUFC star on a free – but Baggies move could be blocked – Report

According to an ‘exclusive’ from The Express, West Brom boss Steve Bruce is eyeing a reunion with former NUFC midfielder Mo Diame – but any potential move could be blocked.

Due to significant transfer complications regarding post-Brexit rules and the difficulties of acquiring a work permit, the deal is being described as ‘unlikely.’

Diame, who most recently played for Al-Ahli in Qatar, has been a free agent since July 2021 and has recently held talks with the Baggies’ boss.

The midfielder, now 34, previously teamed up with Steve Bruce when signing for his Hull side in the Premier League back in 2014.

Despite being relegated in his first season at the club, Diame helped drive Hull back into the Premier League, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off Final.

With just one point taken from his first four games, life at the Hawthorns hasn’t started particularly well for Bruce, who finds his side sitting in just 11th place in the Championship.

It’s no secret Steve Bruce is desperate for central midfielders, with only two currently available at the club, but this particular move may just prove to be too tricky to pull off.

  1. Don’t know where this comes from, but very unlikely as Sean was one of the many players who found Bruce’s coaching methods inadequate.
