Premier League player ratings released for January signings – NUFC feature heavily in top 10

Leading stat site WhoScored.com have released their ratings for players signed in the Premier League in January – and Newcastle United feature heavily.

With four of our five winter signings making the top 10, Newcastle have been one of the most improved sides since the turn of the new year – with a seven game unbeaten run to show for it.

Expectedly, Kieran Trippier placed second in the list with a score of 7.87 – behind only Liverpool’s Luis Diaz – but perhaps a surprise appearance at ninth with 7.01 is striker Chris Wood – still yet to score his first goal.

While some fans may be frustrated with the lack of goal threat, the Kiwi has had some good all round play and has been a contributing factor to the teams good form – yet to lose a game having started every one since signing.

Also featuring in the top 10 are defenders Matt Targett (7.16) and Dan Burn (7.06), two players that weren’t necessarily regarded as star signings but have made significant improvements to the team.

Newcastle now boast the joint-best defence in the top four leagues in 2022, with a lot of the credit going to their defensive recruits.

Here’s the top 10 in full, with it amusing to see Matt Targett above Lucas Digne; the man who forced him out at Aston Villa!
