Toon target triple signing and Newcastle United star closing in on new contract – Report

In his latest piece for i news, Mark Douglas reports that Newcastle are planning to bring in a striker, midfielder and a centre-back this summer, with the club focusing on adding quality over quantity.

Following a hectic January window, preparations have already begun for what should be a busy summer at St James’ Park.

The report names Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Lille’s Sven Botman as two players who look set to be pursued, while Jesse Lingard is another we’re expected to revive our interest in – even though he will have ‘plenty options’ when he becomes a free agents in a few months time.

Botman was reportedly desperate to join the club back in January, with the player himself admitting that the project on offer at Newcastle United was an exciting one.

Nunez has been setting the Portuguese league alight with Benfica while also firing his side into the Champions League quarter-finals, but the i report that he’ll be one of the most sought after strikers this summer.

Lingard is another who will have a number of options as his contract at Man U runs out in the summer. Douglas has revealed that we remain in contact with the England international who seemed keen to join in January before Man Utd blocked a deadline day move.

The same piece also claims that Fabian Schar is keen to sign a new deal with the club, stating contract talks have ‘progressed well.’

Schar is believed to have received interest from sides in Italy and Germany and wants to be offered more than just a one-year extension, also asking for first-team assurances following a good run of form under Eddie Howe.
