Another free agent set to sign elsewhere as NUFC cool interest in summer bargain – Report

According to both The Telegraph and Football Insider, Burnley defender and soon to be free agent James Tarkowski could be on his way to Everton after also attracting interest from Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham.

The Merseyside club have reportedly offered him a £120,000 a week contract with their director of football Kevin Thelwell ‘a big admirer.’

The 29-year-old would be the third free agent that we have missed out on with Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara opting to sign for Aston Villa over us and Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard’s wage demands leaving us to walk away from any potential deal.

We showed a lot of interest in the centre-half back in January when we were in desperate need of reinforcements, but opted for Brighton’s Dan Burn – a move few would change looking back.

After a disappointing season which ended in relegation for the former England international, the defender could move on to a new project in what could be a smart move for Everton given their financial troubles.

Newcastle could be forced to look elsewhere for improvements, with the likes of Lille’s Sven Botman also having been linked to Tyneside in both January and this summer.

  1. It’s starting to look like the old policy with Newcastle.Everyone else are snapping up players while we sit back again.

  2. It would appear a number of clubs are looking to see who Newcastle are looking at and jumping in before us, likely offering more. A compliment to Newcastle’s January successes.Newcastle are in no rush and are likely to have done their homework already and thought Tarkowski isn’t worth going overboard wage-wise for a 29 year old, similar to Lingard’s wage demands seems to have stopped that one – also 29. They want players younger who will improve
