Newcastle handed glimmer of hope over Sven Botman deal, despite AC Milan talks – Report

Newcastle remain hopeful that they can attract Lille defender Sven Botman despite him being in “advanced talks” with AC Milan.

Back in January, bids of around £32million were rejected by Lille even though the 22-year-old was hinting that he wanted a move to the Premier League.

Instead, Newcastle ended up with local lad Dan Burn from Brighton for £13million, but the Magpies intend to go back in for their initial target.

While AC Milan are confident they can get this deal over the line, Newcastle have still ‘been given encouragement there is still a chance Botman could be lured away.’

The biggest problem we face is the lack of a European competition, while AC Milan have just won the Serie A title on the last day of the season and would be able to offer the Dutchman Champions League football.

With the likes of Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez allowed to leave this summer, it leaves the squad very light in the centre of the defence and in desperate need of quality reinforcements such as the European star.
