Krafth caught in VAR sham, Munoz scores, Anderson shines & Schar suffers another bad night

While several members of the squad started their hard earned summer holidays, there’s been a handful of Newcastle United players on international duty over the past week.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s gone on over the past few days, starting with the ridiculous VAR decision that went against our revitalised right-back…

Emil Krafth

Started in Sweden’s UEFA Nations League clash with Norway on Sunday and was absolutely robbed.

Somehow, this was deemed a penalty and not overturned thanks to some truly horrendous refereeing from Anthony Taylor and Stuart Atwell (VAR), seeing Erling Haaland convert from the spot in a 2-1 win for Norway:

Fabian Schar

The ball-playing centre-back has been much improved under Howe, adding consistency to his game over the past six months, however he’s had a week to forget for Switzerland.

After his miskick led to a Czech Republic goal in a 2-1 defeat last Thursday, he struggled in a 4-0 defeat to Portugal on Sunday, seeing Cristiano Ronaldo score twice.

Bruno Guimaraes

Bagged an assist in Brazil’s 5-1 win over South Korea last week, providing his country with yet another productive cameo from the bench.

He was then brought on in the 85th minute during yesterday’s 1-0 win over Japan, replacing best friend and reported NUFC target Lucas Paqueta.

Santiago Munoz

Scored from the spot for Mexico U20’s in their 2-0 win over Indonesia at the Maurice Revello tournament.

Their win over the weekend has sent them through to Thursday’s semi-finals, which will see Santiago come up against France’s Hugo Ekitike – the Reims star expected to sign at St James’ Park this summer!

Elliot Anderson

The Geordie talent is back from an outstanding loan spell at Bristol Rovers and straight into the Scotland set up, starting for their U21’s in a 0-0 draw with top of the table Belgium.

He impressed, almost got on the scoresheet and left Toon fans excited to see him in action in pre-season after this brilliant piece of footwork emerged on social media after the game…

Tonight, let’s hope Kieran Trippier is given some minutes – if not a start – in England’s Nations League clash with Germany at 7.45pm.
