Newcastle announce shock loan move with obligation to buy as Isaac Hayden departs

Newcastle United have announced their first senior exit of the summer, confirming Isaac Hayden has joined Norwich City on loan.

The deal includes an obligation to buy for the Canaries, although a permanent move will only go through if ‘specific performance-related criteria is met throughout the 2022/23 season.’

Hayden was left out of Eddie Howe’s 25-man squad for the second half of last season and has recently recovered from a long-term knee injury.

The 27-year-old has been a solid servant who always gave his all through some difficult times in a black and white shirt, making it a slight surprise that he’s dropped down to the Championship to join recently relegated Norwich City.

Since Rafa Benitez brought him to the club six years ago, the midfielder has made 171 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals in that time.

We’d like to wish Isaac all the best for the future and hope his season at Carrow Road is a fruitful and injury free one.

  1. Always liked Hayden, he always gave his best for the team. Still thought there was a place in the squad for him, but I believe his young family is based in the South & he’s been keen on a move for a while now. The fact he’s out the door so early on in the window seems to suggest that’s still the case.

Best of luck to him, hope everything works out for the lad.

  2. Not sure how this is a shock move, Olly.
Cast your mind back to Rafa putting together a team full of scrappers to get us out of the Championship. The idea was that he would get us promoted then Ashley would let him build a Prem team.
Rafa brought in Gayle, Ritchie, Clark, Diame, Yedlin, Murphy, Hanley and Hayden.
Then apparently we went up so easily Ashley thought the team was strong enough to survive.
Half of those players have already gone, and the rest will be off in the summer.
Every one of those players is bottom half prem at best, but definitely decent Championship.
Loan with an obligation to buy is good for us. If his test drive goes well, he’s off the books.

Shock as in it came totally out of the blue.

Even if we’re talking about the move itself, I think Norwich have done well to get someone a few struggling PL teams would’ve liked.
