Matt Targett has passed his medical at Newcastle United and looks set to sign on a permanent deal imminently.
This has been confirmed by Sky Sports, who also revealed earlier today that he’ll arrive for a fee in the region of £12m after Eddie Howe opted to push ahead with a move for the 26-year-old left-back.
Sky’s North-East correspondent Keith Downie states that the total package is £15m, with us paying Aston Villa £3m to have him on loan for the second half of the 2021/22 season.
Targett has even been spotted at St James’ Park this afternoon by an eagle-eyed Toon fan Neil Davison, with another supporter getting a photo next to the defender in the departure lounge at Newcastle airport. See both below:
The former Southampton talent is expected to be announced as our first senior signing of the summer imminently, with local journalists claiming he’s at the stadium as we speak completing interview for the club’s official media team.
