According to TalkSPORT, Dan Ashworth has turned his attention to Burnley’s Nick Pope after failing to land Gavin Bazunu following a recent round of talks.
In his latest piece on the Toon transfer front, Alex Crook claims that our new sporting director has been asked by Eddie Howe to help recruit a new goalkeeper this summer, with the NUFC boss keen to find some competition for Martin Dubravka.
TalkSPORT report that Ashworth ‘held talks’ with the representatives of Man City talent Gavin Bazunu, but was unable to offer the 20-year-old guaranteed game time – and was also ‘reluctant’ to see the club pay the £15m asking price.
So, with the Irishman now expected to join Southampton instead, it’s believed we’re now exploring a potential move for Pope; who could be available at a cut-price fee this summer.
Crook reports that the 30-year-old could be available for just £10m this summer, with the player keen to leave Turf Moor following relegation and approaching the final 12 months of his current deal.
Personally, I’d argue he isn’t suited to an Eddie Howe side that could look to play out from the back soon – his distribution if worse than Dubravka’s – but he is a few years younger than the Slovakian and could be deemed a bargain if that’s all Burnley are after.
10 million??? Are you having a laugh? More like 40

If you think Nick Pope is going for £40million then you must be the one cracking the jokes mate!
Only six goalkeepers in the history of football have ever cost more than £30million!
