New Chelsea owner makes bold NUFC prediction following Saudi-backed takeover

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has backed Newcastle United to turn the “big six” into the “big seven” over the next few seasons.

The American – who recently completed a £4.25billion buyout at Stamford Bridge and also co-owns the Los Angeles Dodgers – now expects the Premier League to be more competitive than ever, saying “there is going to be an opportunity for everyone to win.”

The club are currently 80%-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment, with Amanda Staveley and the Reubens also owning a 10% stake following last October’s £300m takeover.

Speaking from Berlin, Boehly has now namechecked Newcastle following the arrival of Saudi investment, backing us to compete with the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs:

“The big six will become the big seven with the Saudi deal for Newcastle.

“There is going to be opportunity for everyone to win.”

It’s fair to say that 99% of Newcastle fans would bite your hand off for a top seven finish by the end of the season – just the top half would be a welcome sight for the majority of supporters.

However, with the poor form of the league last year – Manchester United having their worst ever season and still finishing sixth – then there is no reason why we can’t make a push for that seventh spot, provided we can make the right signings.

If we can secure some of the top targets – the likes of Ekitike and Botman and a top goalkeeper – we will be starting to build the spine of a very strong team that hopefully under Eddie Howe will only improve upon last years triumphs.
